can you restore a Singer 201?

Hmmm.... I'm not doing restoration videos at this time if you're asking for a video. Here is a good video about servicing the machine that I like. ruclips.net/video/_h9wAGCIIrc/видео.html My 19 video playlist for a 99K may give you some ideas also.

Good Luck. My first gear change was nerve racking until I found a guide on how to do it. Worth every penny.
I'd advise taking plenty of before and during pictures. You'll be just fine!!

    Hello Andy,
I'm working on my Singer 66-1 Red Eye. It has a lot of" Krud", a heavy layer or dirty dry oil that the regular krud kutter work fairly well but the rust did not come off. It is a very tedious process cleaning a 100 plus year old machine. I can't find the Must for Rust Krud Cutter, however I did fine Rust-Oleum Rust Dissolver. The are both made by Rust-Oleum.. Any recommendations?

The Rust Dissolver (spray/brush formula) looks like the exact same formula as The Must For Rust Formula, with the same percentages of Phosphoric Acid, Ethylene Glycol Monobutyl Ether, and Chromium Trioxide. They did not sell Rust Dissolver when I started using The Must For Rust product. It looks like the same product with different packaging. (maybe a newer look/name)
The Rust Dissolver (gel formula) is a different story though. It has a higher percentage of Phosphoric Acid and it has D-Gluconic Acid instead of the other two ingredients. I'd say it is a much stronger product. I'm basing this on the SDS (Saftey Data Sheets) I found online. Must For Rust; www.rustoleum.com/MSDS/ENGLISH/MR086.pdf
      and Rust DIssolver Bath; www.rustoleum.com/MSDS/ENGLISH/293617.pdf
and the Rust Dissolver Gel; www.rustoleum.com/MSDS/ENGLISH/300112.pdf
You can find all the SDS here; www.rustoleum.com/Rustoleum/pages/find-a-product#msds
When I researched rust removers years ago I chose The Must For Rust for being water-based and dilutable. I think you could brush on the liquid form of Rust Dissolver the same way and dilute it as much as you like. The gel formula would be harder to dilute I think. You may want to use a stronger formula, I don't know. That is up to you. You have to clean it off.
The Krud Kutter does NOT in any way remove rust, but you should use that before any rust removing product. Most rust removers don't really clean or degrease much at all, and they usually recommend the surface is cleaned of oil/grease.
Back when I was searching I was also told EVAPORUST is a very good rust remover. I never tried it because I could only find it in one gallon or larger sizes and the SDS did not show the active ingredients other than 86% water. The other ingredients just say Proprietary non-hazardous chelating agent and Proprietary non-hazardous detergent and a note about not mixing it with acid. So who knows what those proprietary ingredients are? (Proprietary meaning (to me) that it is a secret formula owned by the company vs. something like Phosphoric Acid that no company owns the rights to) It certainly sounds like and is marketed as a safe rust remover. It has many fans too. Here is the website for it; evapo-rust.com/evapo-rust/ and her4e is the SDS; evapo-rust.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Evapo-Rust-Safety-Data-Sheet-2018.pdf BTW, I get the whole "tedious" cleaning thing: BEFORE - ruclips.net/video/04AN-FW7DzA/видео.html and
AFTER - ruclips.net/video/R15ZQIsMy68/видео.html Good Luck, Rafael, and thanks for watching Andy Tube

@@rafaelmunoz21 If you use any other rust remover let me know how you liked it if you have time. I get questions about from all over the world where people have no chance of buying Rustoleum, except maybe the paint. I tell them about Evaporust, vinegar etcetera but they'd love to find something so fast-acting. Good luck friend.

@@andytubesewing1953 I think it is the same product just a different name. I bought and used the Rust-Oleum Rust Dissolver gel one quart spray bottle at approximately $10 at Home Depot, it work great. I made the mistake to break for lunch and forgot about a arm fork with roller feed bar part from the underside of the machine that was soaking in the gel. I came back and it was super clean, so much so - that the shininess was flaking off when I rinsed it off with water! This is a cast metal piece! Just fair warning that a 10 to 15 minute maximum soak is best. Take care.

@@rafaelmunoz21 thanks so much for letting me know and it sounds like that gel is stronger which is great when it's needed because it probably acts quickly I hope no permanent damage was done to that roller but now I know what to offer people when they ask about other rust removers That's a great price too I think have a great weekend Good luck finishing up
