I'm not unique, these guys give similar results than I and in some cases even better. Remember always address the scar type with a method- then you will get the end result. I think people are impressed and attracted to your work Dr. Lim because of attitude toward "one method treats all scars" - as in that you DO NOT think that way. You actually see a patient as the individual as they are and you really want to see and understand each type of scar on a persons face to figure out what treatment or treatments would better the scar(s) - you have this aura which makes it clear as day to the patient that they can check their stress at the door that their doctor "won't get it" and see what they see and not just offer a generic fix or make them do 5-10 procedures that may correct scarring a little bit and then do the individulized specific type procedures on top of that- which ultimate racks up in cost for the patient and make them feel discouraged about their improvement rate or if it will really happen because the progress is taking so damn long. I think alot of people are fed up with going to a derm that doesn't really look at them as individuals and make them do the 3-6 laser treatments and then see how things improve and then address the issues that remain. Well that is my problem anyway. I had perfect skin and went through a 3 year spell of dermatillomania- skin picking- and now that im healed and no longer pick and healed from the psychological reasons of why I picked I was looking for the physical part of it. To correct these dents in my face. I mostly feel they are some rolling and boxcar scars and my treatment plan was 3-6 fraxels then subscion and fillers. I am 3 fraxels in 6 weeks apart and seeing no progress at all, except I do seem glowy but the dents that I want treated specifically are starring back at me in their fullest form. i understand we are our worst critics and judge our progress differently, but the money and time I have spent already seems like I should be seeing some glimmer of hope that these will improve at least by 50 Percent, they dont seem severe at all! The way you have shown techniques seems like you go straight in and do the necessary methods that need to be done to correct the scars. Now I feel that derms make you do these lasers that sure may help your overall appearance of your skin BUT AT A GLACIAL PACE and there are no promises. I feel tha is the route they go to make the most money when they probably know in the first visit what exactly they could do to correct most of the scarring straight up but go a different route straight up to collect the most money and put the patient in a way where they will see minimal improvement and feel they are just on the tip of the iceberg of getting results so they must then keep coming back and doing this procedure and that procedure. I am at a crossroads- do I continue with the doctor I started with even though they never looked at my scars with angled lighting to get the severity or type of scarring down- who actually had their intake doctor I guess make a treatment plan for me - a person who won't ultimately do the procedures for me but putting a treatment plan together for me but then ultimately it was a assistant who did my fraxels not the said doctor I went to see ( she did well I think and was a lovely gal) OR do I go to a new derm all together and start over? My friend used to work for the office of Sue Kilmer and said I should go see her- which I see is one of your referred doctors in CA- but this will be a commitment all over including a $150 consultation which I dont mind paying if I knew she would be clear as day about their approach to this kind of scarring as you are, Doc. I completely understand why someone flew to see you from Portugal. You get it and empathize. I almost feel as if I am this gal that takes her car in to change the oil only they play on the fact that I know diddly squat about cars and tell me I need new brakes and new everything or my car will never be working order as it was and play on that fear so I pay for things I never really needed in the first place. I always wanted to visit Australia, ANYWAY! lol. I bet you'd be beyond a DERM in hot demand here in CA.People just like genuinity and honesty and no BS. AND IN the most Superficial land of the world, thats all we are fed.
Cheers. Sue Kilmer is a great dermatologist who does mainly laser work. I can understand why dermatologist do what they do.. I am fortunate and passionate enough to work in the field of scar revision, hence 80% of my work involves scars...most dermatologist do a bit of everything ...its just that I work in a group so that other dermatologist refer scars to me, as well as other doctors around Australia. Hence its part luck that I get so many referrals and obviously part hard work and thinking, ...if I were to prescribe 'laser ' to everyone.. then results won't be as good. Truthfully, most of my scar work is with manual revision ie. subcsion etc.. work scar by scar. Seriously long, high concentration work, especially if someone has hundreds of tethered scars. Dr. Davin, I admire and love how you're straight forward and tell it like it is. I am from California and many places here gives you the "runaround" and a run for your money. Some places here are not very honest or they're just not great at what they do. It's unfortunate that there are people out there preying on this emotional condition like acne and acne scars. Thanks for your complements, the guys is CA I mentioned in the SHOW MORE are great Dermatologist, and will look after the community in the US. Acne scarring can be a psychological burden, and I despise cosmetic clinics taking advantage of the emotional vulnerability of patients and promise the World. Bit by bit, week by week I hope to change this perception and hope all my Board Certified colleagues will do the same. This is NOT about self promoting me, its about doing the correct thing. Oh my goodness I need this so bad :( I think it's great what your doing! People don't realize how these scars can mess with a persons confidence! Ever since my scars popped up I have lost all self confidence and I've barely left the house since, I don't even like people looking at me anymore, and my scars aren't like extremely bad like some peoples so I couldn't even imagine! I want to hopefully get something like this one day!

Great debate.. OK, atrophic scars are devoid of collagen, rolling scars, as the name suggest roll, they maybe also devoid of collagen, maybe tethered, or consist of altered collagen, ...... or be a mixture of all 3. Good point for debate. Cheers, Dr Davin Lim
Dr Lim. if my scars are about 20 years old -atrophic and rolling-- are they any harder to treat with subsicion and filler versus newer scars? Mine are on the lower sides of my mouth each side. Hi Dr Lim, Can you do a video on Fat Transfer for extreme acne scars. Since you are so connected to the Cosmetic World, do you think longer lasting (Years =more cross linked??) HA fillers are coming, so the patient does not have to spend a arm and a leg for the rest of their life. The average HA filler is under a year. Bellafill is not a option for many of us, we heal poorly, this is why we have acne scars, there are a few new white papers that talk about Immunologic foreign body response from Bella. There has to be something better, if only they could figure out longer lasting (YRS) HA but dissolvable with Hyaluronidase.
Spot on Dan, Bellafill was rebranded from Artefill, that is why I am a sceptic. LOTS of problems in the past with biofilm etc.... you nailed it. OK, fat transfer... done a fair bit..if you are really really atrophic .. way to go.. if you want Finesse, not good, too thick. Second thing... look into the lit review of BAD side effects from injectables, majority of blindness from Fat T'fer. HA fillers way to go...I know that newer HA fillers will last 3-4 years in the making. Other promising things we are working on are stems with HA and PRP> Watch this space as I have to collect data spanning over 3 years to make credible sense. Like i said i know the future looks bright. See my way of subcising the filling.. guess what acts as a 'spacer' so the result are permeant for these types of scars. Davin Lim
BTW, I think in the US you now have Volbella, - I have been using this filler for the past 3.5 years, and it last longer than 18 mths, often more than 2 years in certain locations such as the temples. That is for truely atrophic scars. For tethered box and atrophic, the subscision method with the filler, I believe is permanent, the filler acts as a spacer (much like suction from on top) but much more reliable- as what you see is what you get! Of course I don't know how much I need to subscise until I'm in the scar with the needle. Believe it or not tethering is good, because, in my hands this filling technique is permanent. Atrophic scars are really easy to correct, but you are correct in the sense that it may not last that long- the HA fillers traditionally used in the US is Restylane, and that last a year. New cross linked technology is in development. Im off to some meetings in Europe shortly to discuss on what is new in filler technology. The other disadvantage of fat transfer is that resorption is variable. One never over corrects, for resorption, but in general 80% of injected fat stays there. All the best, Dr Davin Lim
Thanks, yes, its an instant relief for all patients. I tend to prefer this over laser... I think the days of lasers are limited, and certainly old lasers like Fraxel 1550 and Co2 should be in a museum - for acne scarring that is. Dr Davin Lim
You say there are many dermatologists who will give patients the same results if not better than you can; however, there only are marginal ones at best here in South Texas, where scar removal or revision are concerned. Oftentimes, offices push lasers or therapies they have, without referring to other offices who may be better equipped to treat the issue. Further, treating scars, acne, etc. takes so much more time, patience, compliance by patients, and there likely is much higher instances of patient dissatisfaction than with a patient base with less "serious" or traumatic issues - the easy filler, Botox, anti-aging ones, for instance. Dr. Lim, you seem to be exceptional - empathetic, engaged, curious, artistic, altruistic, technically + medically brilliant. Basically, you are a rare find in the world of dermatology. Thank you! Btw, I have shared your videos with the dermatologists for whom I work as a patient consultant. We all think you are pretty great!
Brenda, thank you for your comments, and yes, it does take commitment for acne scar patients. Most patients are extremely grateful, however realistic expectations must be set. I know for a fact the US Dermatologist are all versed in what I do, namely with the Board exams, they have to know the basics, and everything else takes time, practice and patience... something every Board specialist can learn or do... whether they practice those principles are totally different. As Nike say ' there is no finish line' for those who go into procedural dermatology there should always be a quest for new procedures, and keeping up with the newest and latest, once again... I didn't invent the wheel... I m just rolling with it. Thanks once again for your kind works. If you stay in country, I usually have slots that are held for International visitors, as I have at least 4-5 per week that are International. I can usually perform 2 procedures in that week... but once again, I do need to do a live examination of scars, and a mini-psych. profile... this gets me out of trouble most of the time. Thank you. For some reason the things I've read about Novick make me a little iffy about him. I've done al ot of research of people giving answers on realself and reading different patient reviews. And as for Geronemous yes it seems like his entire practice covers the spectrum of skin and he seems to just bring on a lot of associates/partners that run their own business under his umbrella so I never know if they're good or if they needed the support of his business to continue running their practices.

Depends..... voluma, volift or voleblla.... 12 months minimum, 3-5 years maximum......If scars 'Give" with subscision, may last a lot longer. Not much reported in the literature apart from Goodmans Pyramid technique.... which I modified using volift or volbella.... toooooo many variables to give an accurate answer. Cheers, Dr Davin Lim
I know Dr Adrian Lim does acne scarring, I learnt off him, but modified his techniques. He uses SECRET RF, nothing wrong with this device, but INFINI is a lot better due to the insulated needles. Besides, you may not need any of these treatments, just depends on your scar type. Dr Davin Lim

Dr Li, about 16 months ago I came down with skin issues!! Very heart breaking because I had pretty good skin, I came down with bacterial folliculitis and have scared from that. I am pretty upset, I don't leave the house in less I have to. Dr Lim is there anyway to get back my skin after this and are you familiar with bacterial folliculitis, I did have a biopsy on my chest and that was the results, I'm using an antibacterial wash and taking an antibiotic. I was wondering can you heal after this, plus use something to smooth texture out. Thankful for any advice.

I feel tha is the route they go to make the most money when they probably know in the first visit what exactly they could do to correct most of the scarring straight up but go a different route straight up to collect the most money and put the patient in a way where they will see minimal improvement and feel they are just on the tip of the iceberg of getting results so they must then keep coming back and doing this procedure and that procedure. I am at a crossroads- do I continue with the doctor I started with even though they never looked at my scars with angled lighting to get the severity or type of scarring down- who actually had their intake doctor I guess make a treatment plan for me - a person who won't ultimately do the procedures for me but putting a treatment plan together for me but then ultimately it was a assistant who did my fraxels not the said doctor I went to see ( she did well I think and was a lovely gal) OR do I go to a new derm all together and start over? My friend used to work for the office of Sue Kilmer and said I should go see her- which I see is one of your referred doctors in CA- but this will be a commitment all over including a $150 consultation which I dont mind paying if I knew she would be clear as day about their approach to this kind of scarring as you are, Doc. I completely understand why someone flew to see you from Portugal. You get it and empathize. I almost feel as if I am this gal that takes her car in to change the oil only they play on the fact that I know diddly squat about cars and tell me I need new brakes and new everything or my car will never be working order as it was and play on that fear so I pay for things I never really needed in the first place. I always wanted to visit Australia, ANYWAY! lol. I bet you'd be beyond a DERM in hot demand here in CA.People just like genuinity and honesty and no BS. AND IN the most Superficial land of the world, thats all we are fed.
Cheers. Sue Kilmer is a great dermatologist who does mainly laser work. I can understand why dermatologist do what they do.. I am fortunate and passionate enough to work in the field of scar revision, hence 80% of my work involves scars...most dermatologist do a bit of everything ...its just that I work in a group so that other dermatologist refer scars to me, as well as other doctors around Australia. Hence its part luck that I get so many referrals and obviously part hard work and thinking, ...if I were to prescribe 'laser ' to everyone.. then results won't be as good. Truthfully, most of my scar work is with manual revision ie. subcsion etc.. work scar by scar. Seriously long, high concentration work, especially if someone has hundreds of tethered scars. Dr. Davin, I admire and love how you're straight forward and tell it like it is. I am from California and many places here gives you the "runaround" and a run for your money. Some places here are not very honest or they're just not great at what they do. It's unfortunate that there are people out there preying on this emotional condition like acne and acne scars. Acne scarring can be a psychological burden, and I despise cosmetic clinics taking advantage of the emotional vulnerability of patients and promise the World. Oh my goodness I need this so bad :( I think it's great what your doing! People don't realize how these scars can mess with a persons confidence! Ever since my scars popped up I have lost all self confidence and I've barely left the house since, I don't even like people looking at me anymore, and my scars aren't like extremely bad like some peoples so I couldn't even imagine! I want to hopefully get something like this one day!

Great debate.. OK, atrophic scars are devoid of collagen, rolling scars, as the name suggest roll, they maybe also devoid of collagen, maybe tethered, or consist of altered collagen, ...... or be a mixture of all 3. Good point for debate. Cheers, Dr Davin Lim
Dr Lim. if my scars are about 20 years old -atrophic and rolling-- are they any harder to treat with subsicion and filler versus newer scars? Mine are on the lower sides of my mouth each side. Hi Dr Lim, Can you do a video on Fat Transfer for extreme acne scars. Since you are so connected to the Cosmetic World, do you think longer lasting (Years =more cross linked??) HA fillers are coming, so the patient does not have to spend a arm and a leg for the rest of their life. The average HA filler is under a year. Bellafill is not a option for many of us, we heal poorly, this is why we have acne scars, there are a few new white papers that talk about Immunologic foreign body response from Bella. There has to be something better, if only they could figure out longer lasting (YRS) HA but dissolvable with Hyaluronidase.
Spot on Dan, Bellafill was rebranded from Artefill, that is why I am a sceptic. LOTS of problems in the past with biofilm etc.... you nailed it. OK, fat transfer... done a fair bit..if you are really really atrophic .. way to go.. if you want Finesse, not good, too thick. Second thing... look into the lit review of BAD side effects from injectables, majority of blindness from Fat T'fer.
HA fillers way to go...I know that newer HA fillers will last 3-4 years in the making. Other promising things we are working on are stems with HA and PRP> Watch this space as I have to collect data spanning over 3 years to make credible sense. Like i said i know the future looks bright. See my way of subcising the filling.. guess what acts as a 'spacer' so the result are permeant for these types of scars. Davin Lim
BTW, I think in the US you now have Volbella, - I have been using this filler for the past 3.5 years, and it last longer than 18 mths, often more than 2 years in certain locations such as the temples. That is for truely atrophic scars. For tethered box and atrophic, the subscision method with the filler, I believe is permanent, the filler acts as a spacer (much like suction from on top) but much more reliable- as what you see is what you get! Of course I don't know how much I need to subscise until I'm in the scar with the needle. Believe it or not tethering is good, because, in my hands this filling technique is permanent. Atrophic scars are really easy to correct, but you are correct in the sense that it may not last that long- the HA fillers traditionally used in the US is Restylane, and that last a year. New cross linked technology is in development. Im off to some meetings in Europe shortly to discuss on what is new in filler technology. The other disadvantage of fat transfer is that resorption is variable. One never over corrects, for resorption, but in general 80% of injected fat stays there. All the best, Dr Davin Lim

Thanks, yes, its an instant relief for all patients. I tend to prefer this over laser... I think the days of lasers are limited, and certainly old lasers like Fraxel 1550 and Co2 should be in a museum - for acne scarring that is.

You say there are many dermatologists who will give patients the same results if not better than you can; however, there only are marginal ones at best here in South Texas, where scar removal or revision are concerned. Oftentimes, offices push lasers or therapies they have, without referring to other offices who may be better equipped to treat the issue.
Further, treating scars, acne, etc. takes so much more time, patience, compliance by patients, and there likely is much higher instances of patient dissatisfaction than with a patient base with less "serious" or traumatic issues - the easy filler, Botox, anti-aging ones, for instance.
Dr. Lim, you seem to be exceptional - empathetic, engaged, curious, artistic, altruistic, technically + medically brilliant. Basically, you are a rare find in the world of dermatology. Thank you!
Btw, I have shared your videos with the dermatologists for whom I work as a patient consultant. We all think you are pretty great!
Brenda, thank you for your comments, and yes, it does take commitment for acne scar patients. Most patients are extremely grateful, however realistic expectations must be set. I know for a fact the US Dermatologist are all versed in what I do, namely with the Board exams, they have to know the basics, and everything else takes time, practice and patience... something every Board specialist can learn or do... whether they practice those principles are totally different. As Nike say ' there is no finish line' for those who go into procedural dermatology there should always be a quest for new procedures, and keeping up with the newest and latest, once again... I didn't invent the wheel... I m just rolling with it. Thanks once again for your kind works. If you stay in country, I usually have slots that are held for International visitors, as I have at least 4-5 per week that are International. I can usually perform 2 procedures in that week... but once again, I do need to do a live examination of scars, and a mini-psych. profile... this gets me out of trouble most of the time. Thank you. For some reason the things I've read about Novick make me a little iffy about him. I've done al ot of research of people giving answers on realself and reading different patient reviews. And as for Geronemous yes it seems like his entire practice covers the spectrum of skin and he seems to just bring on a lot of associates/partners that run their own business under his umbrella so I never know if they're good or if they needed the support of his business to continue running their practices.

Depends..... voluma, volift or voleblla.... 12 months minimum, 3-5 years maximum......If scars 'Give" with subscision, may last a lot longer. Dr Li, about 16 months ago I came down with skin issues!! Very heart breaking because I had pretty good skin, I came down with bacterial folliculitis and have scared from that. I am pretty upset, I don't leave the house in less I have to. Dr Lim is there anyway to get back my skin after this and are you familiar with bacterial folliculitis, I did have a biopsy on my chest and that was the results, I'm using an antibacterial wash and taking an antibiotic. I was wondering can you heal after this, plus use something to smooth texture out. Thankful for any advice.
