Thanks Bro. Excellent! Answered MANY of my questions on our new to me E46 vert. The sound HK system has been butchered, and at least now I can verify if the aftermarket unit is connected correctly, and more importantly my options for replacing the factory speakers currently installed, sizes, depth, adapters and all! Only thing I would have liked to know is the wiring colors to the center pass through sub. I can probably figure it out now though...Thanks!
I'm still unsure of the pass through sub colors. I found the wires going to the sub. That's easy enough, though I forgot the colors. They are a bigger wire. I never found the wires coming from the radio that powered the subs. It's as if they created those inside the factory amp.
@@KrisO1976 I wouldnt doubt it. Probably some internal amp circuitry. I have a weekend project, at least the 6.5 in the door. Have some Infinity 5.25 on the shelf that I may try to adapt to the rear....We shall see.
Great video. I see you put two ways in the front. Are they ok as is or would it have been better to use components? I just got an e46 vert and will be looking to swap the audio system so I was curious about the two way coaxials. Thanks.
Component speakers would sound better than coaxial. I went with coaxial for cost and because I don't have an amp since it was flooded. If I was using the factory amp, I guess you could just hook to the factory speaker wires and not use the crossovers. The coaxial speakers do sound better than the factory speakers, and the Bavsound.
Yes you can. Lots of people do. I just don't have the factory amp anymore since it was damaged in a flood. It will sound a lot better with the factory amp. Just wire new speakers in to the old speaker wires and you're done.
Great video and explanation. I've got a BMW E46, I'm thinking of upgrading my factory fitted stereo. I've owned many after market stereo units for cars.. they've all developed faults... it's the only reason I haven't done it yet. My factory fitted stereo is over 20 years old,ok it only plays the radio and C.D's but it still works. How's your unit doing? Thanks
I've put the Eonon head unit in each of my E46s. The one in my daily driver, I had in my first E46, so it's probably around 10 or 11 years old now. I typically use the Hotspot from my phone to run the internet on the radio to play Pandora or RUclips. As a radio I haven't had any problems. While using my wifi, sometimes, but very rarely the radio may just randomly stop and go back to the home screen. Other than that, no problems. The one in my ZHP is almost 5 years old now.
@@KrisO1976 Thanks for your reply and info on your units, it's helped to eased my mind about wether or not I should do it . I'll definitely change the speakers too. Any suggestions? I've seen that BAV speakers are rated.
For the price, Bav isn't worth it. They are plug and play, and a simple swap. I don't have a recommendation, but I am going to search for speakers soon based on the sizes I figured out in this video. It's the rear speakers depth that causes issues.
@@KrisO1976 thanks for your reply, I might go for Kenwood or Pioneer, don't need it to thump, just need it to sound good/better than factory fitted speakers.
The Bav sound speakers are only slightly better than factory speakers. The infinity speakers are louder and more clear even though they aren't on an amp. The front speakers are perfect, but I could have gone with bigger rear speakers.
@@KrisO1976 Thanks for the reply, it's really hard to find info about any speakers other then the BavSound ones for the E46, so it's great to see another option that seems to work well.
Having the Bavsound, it's way too expensive for what it is. I bought them on my first E46, then swapped it into my ZHP. I'm likely going to replace them soon for something better.

Best BMW e46 speakers upgraded I've seen yet.
I was wondering if it would be possible to install 6.5” speakers in a 01 325Ci Convertible? No hk or navigation system

@ thanks. I figured as much since the tweeters on the coaxial would be pretty low.
Great video
Do the speakers fit. Does the door card clip back all the way
could you have used the new speakers with the factory amp or no?

Nice vid.
Do you have the plans of the box?
No. All my notes went underwater in Hurricane Ida. I made a mock-up of the shape with cardboard before I built it.
How do those speakers compare to the BavSound speakers? Better, worse, or about the same?
