I know it was said jokingly, but you say that "the wind has bad vibes" is 1600s hypothesis, yet in 2000s in Poland, I still hear "Halny wieje, bedo się chłopy wiszoć", meaning "The halny* is blowing, the men will be hanging themselves" said with a heavy Highlanders accent; sometimes used with "ludzie"/"people" instead of "chłopy"/"men". So evil wind making people go "mad" is very much still a thing in some places. *name for a foehn wind that blows in Polish and Slovakian mountain chains, specifically Tatra and Carpathians Mountains, that is especially tubulent and "eventful" in Polish Highlands aka Podhale
Oh. The prison system needs to be completely reworked. "Sanity" or "Insanity" in a legal sense is vital atm because our court system is based on punishment not rehabilitation. If rehabilitation was the goal all that would be needed was a verified assessment that someone is not the danger they were previously to receive a lesser sentence. It's not ideal but something like that would definitely be better in my opinion.
An interesting history & perspective on a complex topic, thank you! I'm old enough to have been through many iterations of the DSM & found them all lacking insight or understanding into the nature of autistic people. At least they're finally addressing sensory issues!
Wow. Great update and telegraphic but dense historical review. Thanks! Yes - I agree. Once the insurance has to pay - all gets bad. Imagin what would happen if up to 20 psychoterapy seances per year would be free (paid by gov)...
She definitely did not anticipate what the rise of the USSR would bring or the horrors it and Communist China would commit, at the time the three big choices were pretty much communism, capitalism, and full on fascism so she went for the one that was most in line with left wing socialist values at least in theory
It's clearly flawed. It seems to systematically ignore certain issues and groups of people based purely on person bias of the writers. But then I start thinking what it would look like if this group or that group wrote it. Wouldn't it just be a different flavor of dumpster fire? The system doesn't have infinite money or manpower to take care of everyone. A lot of people are going to be left high and dry any way you play the cards.

I appreciate your videos so much! You’re killing it!
Be interesting to compare the US diagnostic criteria, with the one used in the UK!
thanks for being a leader
It just occurred to me (retroactively) I really like ADHD and ASD individuals.
I love your work. I've been nerding out on it all day. Thank you for producing this!!
Thank you for this. I talked with a friend about this for a long while after you posted. Good stuff.
Jeremy (that's me) is interested in the old DSM publications... because I'm a (dee aych diiii) nerd... thanks for the video

You should write about book about your research on DSM. You remind me of the author of The Big Fat Surprise
oh boy! "Neurotypicality & Capitalism", cant wait for some rather interesting takes!
Superinformative great video skills
Helen Keller grew up to be a very outspoken communist because of how she saw capitalism treating the disabled
Communists imprison or execute the disabled, so that's not ideal either...

I’m just going to be pissy because you forgot to describe your jewelry.
