Those motors are reversible outside of software, you just need to re-order the pins of the hall-effect sensor as well as swapping around the blue/green wires. It was being so weird because it was trying to spin, and the sensors report that the motor is spinning the wrong direction so the controller freaks out.
@@ProdigyAutomotive Kit alone is around 1500$ to 2000$ for 11kw kit depending on battery you choose and closer to 1K$ for less powerful ones. Its cheaper than some kits i have seen but least for me i dont have extra income to throw 1.5k for racing go cart and 2K for electric setup, when you can get really good daily driver for that price and proper road legal dirtbike or get small diesel crate engine into cross cart frame, witch will beat this in utility in any day.

Guys! When you want to reverse the direction, you need to change two phase wires and two wires of the hall sensors if you want to do it the "long" way. The short way is to reprogram the controller (as you mentioned), changing the correct setting (indicated on the programming software) will make the motor spin the other way. Trust me, I've done it both ways.
@@rendaddy_ Just the way 3 phase motor works, that would be the solution. The fact that they didn't suggest it means that they didn't know or didn't want any mixed wires. All they will do is connect the controller to a computer and program it the correct direction. All my cheap controllers can work by switching the wires and my decent ones can very easily be programmed via adapter and USB cable. This is universal.
@@esqueue I'm guessing it's a liability thing. It's far safer to say send the controller back, that minimises the risk of damaging hardware and having other people see the video and hot wiring their own motors.

Im big into large scale rc cars and absolutely love this. Ive considered useing one of my 5th scale rc motors with 20hp to power a small go-cart for me and my kids. This motor looks stupid powerful.
This group of awesome people helped bring back that dream i had growing up. I started a little side hustle with a Decent name I'll share once its legally mine lol. I started buying project ATV's and mini bike go/street-karts and started on the first custom build. Sometimes you lose sight of your dreams but it's a nice feeling to be reminded and its amazing how well its working out. So thank you guys for reminding me to focus on what makes me happy.
The best thing about these little builds is how approachable they seem. Like a motorcycle engine might be cheap and easy to obtain, but it's so friggin' heavy compared to a small electric motor and battery you could almost slap on anything with wheels in a couple of days and get obscene speeds. (well, assuming your motor controller isn't the wrong way around... Also: Edited for typos I didn't notice originally...)
I wonder how much the motor and battery weighs compared to the 2-stroke engine a fuel tank. For something this small there probably isn’t much difference
@@AussieDaz87I'd imagine the weight of this electric setup is probably really close to like 125 or 250 2 stroke engine with the flywheel/stator attached (45-55lbs). However, the torque that this electric motor can instantaneously produce makes the beefy powerband of a 2 stroke feel like a 49cc gas engine in comparison. Seriously, anyone who rides bikes or karts owes it to themselves to try out a comparable electric powered setup. The G's you'll pull with good traction will blow your mind.

This video could not have come at a better time! A good friend of mine has decided he wants a go-kart track in his backyard. It will have some elevation changes and cambered turns, etc. It should be epic! but we can't use gas carts because of the noise (friggin neighbors!) I suggested finding rough/retired shifter karts and put in electric motors. I don't think he fully got the concept. I'm definitely sending him this video. This thing you're building is overkill, but it's the right idea.

Pulling him behind that six-wheel drive on the gocart without a helmet was a brave choice i know rocks getting kicked up from the tow vehicle are traveling fast enough to kill a person if one decided to hit the person being towed in the gocart in the right spot. Id probably have done that exact same thing but sometimes thinking about what could happen is worth the time
You might consider putting a return spring on the sensor side of the throttle cable. Or at least make sure you have a good kill switch (maybe a lanyard style) I found have that out the hard way. Haha😅

It's either that or they have such a lead foot they don't know how to ease in on it. Heavier spring on the throttle pedal may not hurt either.

Pro Karting driver here, if yall ever track that kart or do some fun street stuff, I recommend trying to get Mojo D5 kart tires if you have a 7 inch rear rim, or Vega Blue tires for 6 inch rims. It might be very tricky getting a hold of these tires as they are used for professional karting and they are pricey, but trust me, for a kart with that much power it would give it good grip
Please please please do an urban takeover sort of video with this thing. Probably too late now with winter finally here, but go rip around downtown Sandpoint at 2 am on a Tuesday night and get some good clips of it. Different style video that everyone here would love.
There are ways to do wild stuff, but from dragging it with the truck to all the nonsense in reverse could have gone bad. Ain't hard to wear a helmet, at least for the younger kids watching and copying their fav youtubers etc. keep up the wild videos, but think about whos watching your content and the influence you have on helmets in general bros.
Your fear of the cutoff wheels on the angle grinder is very very valid. You should ALWAYS have the guard installed on the grinder! If you, for what ever reason, can't do that then wear a full face shield/welding helmet.
@@eliangreatrick6620 sure. I purchased 4kw / 14kw peak bldc motor kit. It's 72v nominal 200A peak. It was designed for motorcycle conversions but it can be used for go kart. All I had to do was to purchase a 0-5v throttle. The hardest part was to make the motor mount. I don't have CAD plasma cutter like these guys lol. Battery was easy for me. I am using LFP Headway 38120HP cells 24s2p pack. Let me know if you need help.

i recently upgraded my angle grinder to a latest model makita with kickback protection and variable speed etc.. its so much better than the cheap angle grinders that used to almost hit your forehead when it got stuck in a piece of steel edit; forgot to mention 9:31 here you can see the kickback protection working succesfully, its stopping the motor when it suddenly had too much resistance

Pro Karting driver here, if yall ever track that kart or do some fun street stuff, I recommend trying to get Mojo D5 kart tires if you have a 7 inch rear rim, or Vega Blue tires for 6 inch rims. It might be very tricky getting a hold of these tires as they are used for professional karting and they are pricey, but trust me, for a kart with that much power it would give it good grip

There are ways to do wild stuff, but from dragging it with the truck to all the nonsense in reverse could have gone bad. Ain't hard to wear a helmet, at least for the younger kids watching and copying their fav youtubers etc. keep up the wild videos, but think about whos watching your content and the influence you have on helmets in general bros.

Your fear of the cutoff wheels on the angle grinder is very very valid. You should ALWAYS have the guard installed on the grinder! If you, for what ever reason, can't do that then wear a full face shield/welding helmet.

@@eliangreatrick6620 sure. I purchased 4kw / 14kw peak bldc motor kit. It's 72v nominal 200A peak. It was designed for motorcycle conversions but it can be used for go kart. All I had to do was to purchase a 0-5v throttle. The hardest part was to make the motor mount. I don't have CAD plasma cutter like these guys lol. Battery was easy for me. I am using LFP Headway 38120HP cells 24s2p pack. Let me know if you need help.

i recently upgraded my angle grinder to a latest model makita with kickback protection and variable speed etc.. its so much better than the cheap angle grinders that used to almost hit your forehead when it got stuck in a piece of steel edit; forgot to mention 9:31 here you can see the kickback protection working succesfully, its stopping the motor when it suddenly had too much resistance
Well that section of the new shop floor is probably forever waterproofed
