It was only a slight departure of that genre when Marcus Bridge joined the band towards an alternative metal and an experimental metal sound. Don't worry, you will hear elements of that sound on their later releases.
Marcus killed it on alien. He one of the best vocalists making music i dont see the haters.

Man every damn northlane comment section is about Adrian, yeah he was great did some killer songs, legendary songs actually. But Marcus is the frontman now it's been like 3 years guys, can we talk about something else.
I've seen Marcus live and beforehand I had my doubts. However, he was perfect live, he sounded just like Adrian in the original songs and sounded exactly like the studio for the most recent albums. Best gig i have ever been to, if you havent seen Marcus live then you really need to.

This band can change their sound every album if they want, it doesn't matter. They are all such talented musicians, their composition, their messages, everything is so well put together. The message behind this song is so badass. For those of you that don't know, it's about Edward Snowden exposing the corruption in our government.

I honestly love that Northlane aren't afraid to do something so different. Way too many bands get caught up just trying to please their fanbase with the same sound every time. I am loving all the new songs and the new image plus their marketing is so amazing, I have been trying to figure out all the little messages for days.

Ignacio Abarca they are very unique. But I'd highly recommend checking out their first two albums; Discoveries and Singularity. Easily the band's best work.

sadly i see where he (ludovic) is coming from. Bands do change (sound/lineup) and half the time they will be critiqued by there former fans. I kinda fully agree with all bands he mentioned as (they aren't in my playlists at all anymore); yet Northlane is a daily in my life, and will stay there because the songwriting continues to be fucking phenominal.
Not hard at all too see why in some of these cases. Suicide Silence going from Deathcore to being a bad copy of Deftones out of the blue was a really strange move. LP was alright till their last album..that was straight up radio pop. OM&M is in a weird spot, they kind of went back to their roots but their kind writing generic stuff when Aaron is actually a good writer.
Northlane did pretty good though, they changed up their sound, but didn't go into a different genre to do it.

The one more light album is kind of a thank you for everyone who helped him and also him realizing a few mistakes he did in the past which most of us do in life!! C'mon even I'm a metalhead but never hated their songs as it had a special meaning and was very different than other popshits! Moreover few believed the album to be a suicide note from Chester. If that's true I guess Chester did what anyone else would do! Except he turned it into an album so that everyone can listen to it and relate their life...

Adrian had a lot of emotional expression and added a ton of energy, but Marcus is more diverse vocally and can sing reaaaaally well. Adrian only had like 2 pitches lol Singularity is still my favorite album though.

met marcus when he came to western canada couple years ago, really nice chill dude. talked to him for 30 minutes about random shit and the band.
I barely listen to Metalcore currently. I liked Discoveries when i was 16. But those days are long gone. So i'm glad they changed their sound, they keep moving towards Progressive Metal. Reminds me so much of A Perfect Circle and later Deftones. Marcus has a really interesting vocal range, his cleans really fit their style. I love this track.

seriously. this isn't bad, I just wish marcus had deeper lows. it would mix what their old sound and new sound perfectly. I always thought it'd be awesome if they had Adrian do the screams and Marcus do the clean singing. it'd save Adrian's voice so he could be able to do it.

Everyone's going on about Adrian's lyrics being superior to Marcus' when Josh writes the lyrics. It's the same setup as Architects where Tom wrote the lyrics for Sam. I, for one, have really enjoyed the lyrical content that I've heard so far and I look forward to seeing what other topics they explore on the rest of the album.
This is amazing. It may not be as heavy as old Northlane, but it still captures the old Djent vibe. I'm pumped as fuck for the new album.

Don’t get me wrong I like Alien, it’s definitely something else. I also like the other older albums. But this is still my number one Northlane song and Mesmer is still my favorite album by them. With screams yeah, but absolutely not cleans. Marcus is an amazing singer and his scream has that unique scream even if it's not as low or heavy. Might as well be talking about the bands different albums versus the different vocalists anyway. It's not like either was involved in both albums anyhow. Shit get the fuck over it. Even if people dislike new Northlane, I'm glad they took a direction that best suits the change. No one would be happy if a band's potential was wasted doing something that doesn't fully suit them anymore. With that view I would call this the best possible outcome.
