To help clarify the eCVT, there is no belt or chain used in the more traditional CVT. It uses the MGU1 and MGU2 to keep the engine at peak RPM so that it is providing maximum output. So the transmission is an all mechanical drivetrain that is a mixture of ICE and Electric motors. So the engine will sit at a constant speed when you give it the beans and the electric motors provide the variable output as the car goes faster.
The honda eCVT is a bit better then the toyota eCVT as the toyota one requires one motor to always be spinning in time with the engine to vary that rate of power via a planetary gear set
The Throttle House guys in Canada are also funny. Us car enthusiasts are spoiled by great creators! Also Bill from Curious Cars is hilarious. Sarah is awesome!

I had this solar panel idea while I was 7 yrs old when teacher asked us to draw some inventions. Anyways, in one day, the solar panel will be so efficient that it will charge the car while driving in the daylight.
This car has to be the greatest improved car from generation to generation that damned near ever existed. I am so happy to see Toyota making attractive cars again.
Hi Sarah. Hope all is well with you. I watched your last video about working so hard and I will tell you that I felt the same way at times wondering the the same thing. So pleased to see this Sarah. Im one of those boring buggers that drive a CT200H with the original Prius drive train. I love it actually but im also really happy that Toyota are moving their game on a bit. Great review aa usual, love your channel.
@@thegnomegang6825 Well it's a fair question, although annoying wasn't actually the word I used. I guess I've seen so many reviews saying that the car is boring and anyone interested in cars or driving wouldn't have one (I disagree on both points btw) that I've sort of absorbed this into my subconscious . I flippin love mine though, as you do yours.
Some older Audis had a solar roof that would power ventilation that keeps the interior somewhat cooler when parked. I never understood why this wasn't more widespread.
As always, your reviews are the 💣. ❤ (I had to rewind 3x due to laughter.) 😅 Never liked Prius styling until this gen and now can't believe I am saying I want one! Thank you so much, Sarah, for always bringing your delightful self to an info rich, useful and objective review. 👍🏼🙏😊
This little thing would a blast on a small, twisty turny road course. There were a few in North Florida\Georgia line tracks. Even a 1/4 mile oval. A few in mid- Michigan, too. Sticky Yokohama's would do.
Toyota continues to improve the Prius in features, performance, and looks. I can certainly understand why many people love them. Great honest, unbiased review. Loved the “beans” graphics during the acceleration test. Thank you, Sarah. 👍👍👍
Although I think Toyota took a major step back with the last generation Prius. I currently have a gen 3 (that has a solar panel for ventilation), and when Toyota came out with the ugly gen 4, I thought my next car would not be a Prius. However seeing this design, and the EV range of the Prime, I've made a deposit on one.
We have had two Prius. Both with well over 125,000 miles, the best part we have not had to do any unusual types of maintenance just oil changes, tires, and one needed rear brakes. They are GLC older people will remember the GLC
I dont expect to ever have one of these but I do like it. The way you get neutral is to hold it. Thats so you dont accidentally knock it into neutral because it seems fairly easy to do so if it was bump only. But it looks WAY better than previous generations and the weight is great too. If the top of the line came down in price and I needed a daily driver Id consider one of these.
I really enjoy your channel, your videos are amazing, your editing skils with blend and timing are the best...fun, entertaining and truly appreciated.. awesome job as always!
Best car RUclipsr and keep it up. Pleasing to watch and all about what the car is about. You show everything a car is and explain it your best. We are not looking for fancy ultra expensive vehicles. We are looking for functional and save us money and hope to last a long time.
2:55 - The power-split device is notoriously hard to wrap your brain around, but it’s mechanically amazingly simple compared to any classical transmission: essentially just one single planetary-gear set. (All but 1st- and 2nd-generation Priuses add a further speed-compensation gear as well, but fundamentally, it’s just a single planetary-gear set.) Once you do wrap your brain around it, it’s actually very straightforward! It’s essentially a differential with its inputs and outputs reversed: A differential has one input and two outputs, and the rotation speed of the outputs average out to the speed of the input. A power-split device has two inputs and one output, and the output’s rotation speed is the (weighted) average of the two inputs. One of the inputs is the engine and the other is MG1.
That is a beautiful car, totally different from the previous Prius models that I like for their economy and reliability, but this one is better in every aspect. If they only offered it all electric it would be fantastic ... at least here in Germany where we have plenty of charging stations all over the place. Sarah, you are the Best ... Very well informed, extremely knowledgeable, very talented (mechanics, electronics and even the video editing), a disciplined workaholic, absolutely hilarious and really beautiful. Back in the 80s, upgrading to 12" brakes and 50 series tires is what we'd do to our cars to make them better. Nowdays the defacto econo-car of our time comes with it from the factory, lol
Should see how big the Carbon Ceramic brakes are on the Audi RS7 and RSQ8... 10 piston calipers 17.5" rotors $5000 per pad set, $10,000 per rotor.... $50,000 (+ labour) to do a brake job on one of these vehicles.
I love the in depth reviews, from the engine, suspension, repairability and the technical issues. Thanks for the awesome information. The braking tests are very entertaining. Every male is scared of being judged by the calipers. My biceps are not big enough
Best looking prius by a long shot, i have ordered one and will have it before the weekend. Cant wait. There is a hint of mk 3 Supra in the front. Keep up the great work Sarah, youre the best.
If anything happened to my current car I would seriously consider getting a new Prius (not the Prime since I can't plug it in). Well that assumes I don't walk out the dealership laughing due to markups.
What a coincidence that I got to your channel when I was researching new cars. I decided to get the Prius Prime for its EV range, and new looks (getting a red one, that should go well with the interior accents). In many states, it's an extremely hard to get car right now.
