About ALS: Nanci Ryder and Team Nanci

When Nanci Ryder was diagnosed with ALS in 2014, she worked tirelessly to raise public awareness, and to advance the search for effective treatments and cures. She has always been surrounded by many friends and colleagues and together, they have created “Team Nanci” for the Los Angeles County Walk to Defeat ALS.
Throughout her journey with ALS, her loved ones have watched Nanci lose her ability to speak and move on her own. They have seen their vibrant friend, who was never shy about voicing her opinion, prevented from expressing herself freely and have watched this devastating disease take so much from her, a little bit at a time, with no way to know what is next.
Earlier this year, several of her closest friends, including Courteney Cox and Renee Zellweger, participated in this video to raise ALS awareness about one of its many debilitating symptoms - losing the ability to speak. It reveals how the progression of the disease has impacted each of them and their ability to communicate with Nanci.
