Gaiters are one of the most underrated bits of gear! I use mine all the time(I have 3 pairs!), zipped together as a waterproof sit-pad (or a kneeling pad in the tent). Or on my legs in summer when going through tick-laden grass in shorts. They can also protect bare arms when bushwhacking through thorny trees. Or even, in the winter, just use them as gaiters! Brilliant things.
You cracked me up talking about putting on the gators as I was exactly the same the first time...didn't have a clue and was trying to put them on back-to-front and all sorts 🤣 I got them for a trip to Scotland and wouldn't be without them now. Here in Australia they're invaluable in the rainforest to prevent leeches and ticks, yet I hardly see anyone else with them....maybe they all just give up trying to work them out! 😄 I love your second image with that shaft of light hitting the green valley...wonderful!
Henry, thank you again for always bringing so much fun and truth to your videos. I am so impressed from watching your talent grow over the years since your first videos. You have always had a good eye for detail. To witness what you have built and become from loving what you do, has been so inspiring to so many of us. I hope one day I get the chance to shake your hand and tell you, well done!
I truly enjoy your enthusiasm Henry and what makes it even better is the fantastic images you produce. What you do is what landscape photography should be to all of us.
The wife got me two recent bits of kit and they've been a revelation - A hoody blanket thing that you wear like a hoodie and a pair of wellies. Being able to jump in the burn for shots and stay toastie warm in the car while (Trying) to get a kip have been a comfort.
🇨🇦/🇺🇸... I remember when you bought the Salomans... They practically glowed in the dark!!! 🤣 Frankly, I think you could give them a proper scrubbing and spray them with a conformal waterproofing and they'd be almost as good as new... maybe for backup. OR you could sign them and auction them off!!!!! 😂😂🤣😂
Great video Henry, it shows the reality we face going out and practicing our beloved landscape photography. You still came away with some beautiful photographs; I'm envious of the beauty of the UK and you're a great tour guide as well. Cheers Henry!
Hi Henry Love the photos and video top draw mate. Hope your boots work well. When I was looking for some was like a minefield. I have just about bedded them in now so hopefully be seeing you again. 👍
I’m glad you’ve seen the light (literally) about tripods. I do use mine but sometimes find it inhibits my ability to shoot quickly and spontaneously. Loving the videos.
Another great video, Henry, with some more splendid images. And, your endless energy, passion and enthusiasm is in itself a joy to feel part of; thank you for sharing.
Thanks for another interesting and informative video Henry! Following your previous advice I have been using Auto ISO a lot more and it certainly is helpful when you don't have time to spend setting everything up.
Those boots look like the winter tires we have on our SUV here in Canada for the snow Henry! Great for your mountain hikes.Sadly we have no hills or mountains near us to get those spectacular views and images.Stay safe out there..💙
Top drawer images Henry. Those first two handheld amazing. So glad you covered the benefits of Aperture Priority mode and showed us some of your work without a tripod. I am not a lover of my tripod and rarely take it with me. The image stabilisation on my GX9 and OMD 1 is great but I do need to practice with the tripod when needed in not so good light. Thank you for your weekly videos. Always a highlight of the week.
Hi Henry, another interesting video and thanks for sharing. You can’t beat a pair of good boots as the creativity dies off if you’re cold, wet or otherwise uncomfortable. So photography gear isn’t always about the camera, you need to get in position to be able to press the shutter button!
Another fabulous video and as ever sharing some great photos. Your enthusiasm is infectious and it always comes across, whether you say it or not, just how much you appreciate and love what you do. Definitely makes me want to pick up my camera more for sure. Thanks Henry
Same thing happened to me recently: Set up my tripod, composed the scene, and that's when the clouds moved in and the sun disappeared. Waited for 20 minutes but the clouds kept building up. So I left without a picture. That's also part of landscape photography. 🤷♂️🙂
Do you have day-light-savings-time in the UK… ??? Changing the time one hour back in Fall and 1 hour forward in Spring to accommodate agrarian society over a hundred years ago… We in the (USA) actually voted to end this BS, but still has not been instituted ending day-light-savings-time (plug in congress over this) LOL! Yes, I do understand your emotion about the angle of light regarding time of day. Great feeling, you have so much to work with. Enjoy it while it lasts Sir - Cheers 🍻
Lovely boots mate. Well, I've finally upgraded my D3000 with the dodgy 35-80mm f:4. I picked up a D300s body + 16gb cf card + battery grip + 3 batteries and charger. Manfrotto 144 tripod all for £80. A complete Nikon D40 kit with 18-55 mm & 55-200mm kit lenses, as well hama tripod, lowpro bag and filters for £120. It worked out cheaper to buy the kit than the lenses separately. Both cameras have less than 5000 actuations and all for £200. 👍 I am over the moon mate.
Cheers Henry, it’s Sean in Atlanta! I looked at those same boots but decided to get the Lowa Camino GTX instead. They just seem to fit my hooves a little better. But your new boots will serve you well! They are awesome! Your enthusiasm is contagious and I wanted to head right out to where you shot this video but realised I live in Atlanta… haha, maybe one day! Sean
Great video as usual Henry. As for boots, all you hikers can stick your boots up your .... I've just spent a week in Wester Ross and anything other than wellies is a waste of time.
Thanks again Henry for sharing.... great results in this location....I like using auto ISO as it seems ok with most compositions & it saves time... cheers from Australia 😀
I swear, even the shots that you think are rubbish are actually very good. That last photo with the tiny bit of light in the upper right was absolutely beautiful. Probably a candidate for your next calendar?
good morning Henry, thanks once again for a great video, i wanted to make a comment on your new boots. i have had the same boots for the last 15 years, having completed the Annapurna circuit and Cotopaxi in them as well as lots of scottish munroes and much of the Lake dirstrict fells, and in all that time they have never failed once, a grat choice and i hope they serve you as well as mine have, they are still in great nick thanks again Henry keep up the great vids
Hi Henry great video I must say the first photo in your video is I think one of the best shots you have shown us ,Of all time . It's worth printing and framing . Rich from Leeds
Nice one, Henry. I was at Borrowdale recently and only got a few precious minutes of light. But certainly BRILLIANT just to be out there. One question ... how is your autoISO set up (eg 64-3200, 1/50 minimum?), and what metering mode did you use (matrix?)?
Hi Henry, thanks again for another great video, glad you got your new boots. I would highly recommend using a product called ducks wax on them, as they can protect them from minor scuffs and waterproof them even more as well.
Very nice video, Henry! Yeah, light is the essence, isn't it. I shoot mostly manual, but still, even if I use an old all manual camera, I use to have it set so that I can take a picture within seconds, because we never know when that light will appear.
Inspiring as always, keep them coming, always little gems to take on board to help us be better landscape snappers. Have received my calendar, great shots. At least 12 keepers to hang in the man cave 😊 Looking forward to next week’s vlog. Regards from OZ.
If the light is changing rapidly I often use auto iso with manual settings. I am not sure of the benefits of using auto iso with aperture priority as it could cause some differences in behaviour between cameras from different manufacturers. As you say live histograms are a game changer. Used with highlight clipping blinkies they make metering modes such as matrix, centre weighted and spot metering largely redundant. Using auto iso with exposure compensation allows rapid exposure optimisation and it is better to end up with an image with some noise than miss the shot altogether.
I’m enjoying catching up on your channel, your enthusiasm is infectious (in a good way!) - found the composition ebook very helpful, just starting on the location guide. Will hopefully arrange a workshop next year as a retirement present to myself! Keep up the great work!
Considering you can get the speed you want in AP by adjusting the iso & aperture you want by doing the same in SP & you have 1/3 or a stop in all exposure modes, anyone saying you need to shoot in manual mode for control is just telling people they have no clue 🤦♂️
Another cracking film...keep em coming Henry.
beautiful pictures
You’re amazing. What a talent.
Thank you. 👍📷😎
Borrowdale is very beautiful, but it looks so COLD!

Excellent video as usual Henry.
As you said, with the light moving so fast hand held is best.
Great image's as usual.

Loved it cheers mate

Great video mate. Love borrowdale.
Good one Henry. Look forward to the next one. Neil
I thought a local lad like yourself would have gone to Gaynors for your hiking clothing.... Mega cheap for your clobber! Great content as always H.
Great video Henry, it shows the reality we face going out and practicing our beloved landscape photography. You still came away with some beautiful photographs; I'm envious of the beauty of the UK and you're a great tour guide as well. Cheers Henry!
Those boots are made for walking as the song goes, great content once again. 👍
fabulous, even the time lapses were awesome, nice one Mr Turner
Hi Henry Love the photos and video top draw mate. Hope your boots work well. When I was looking for some was like a minefield. I have just about bedded them in now so hopefully be seeing you again. 👍
Suggestion - gift a copy of that print with the sun rays hitting the farm in the valley to the owners of the house
Another great video, Henry! Amazing light in the beginning of the video!
I’m glad you’ve seen the light (literally) about tripods. I do use mine but sometimes find it inhibits my ability to shoot quickly and spontaneously. Loving the videos.
If I need to move fast, I will use P mode. It works!
Another great video, Henry, with some more splendid images. And, your endless energy, passion and enthusiasm is in itself a joy to feel part of; thank you for sharing.
Some nice photos there, I like the dry stone wall shot
Thanks for another interesting and informative video Henry! Following your previous advice I have been using Auto ISO a lot more and it certainly is helpful when you don't have time to spend setting everything up.
Hi Henry. I just love your enthusiasm when the weather conditions are perfect for you mate. And more great images, perfect.🙂
Thanks 👍

Which Zambelan would you recommend for light and moderate hikes?

Short n sweet today, but full of entertainment. I do disagree about your 'tag line' I think it's ' ITS ALL KICKING OFF!!😁'

Does your New boots are lighter that the old one. I watch you from France. Great vidéo as usual.
Thanks! Heavier actually
Great shots Henry! Love the light rays!. Henry I still have some bits I need to send to you, can yo7 let me have your postcode, many thanks Graham
You went 1/50th handheld for one image. How low can you go, with IS, and still avoid camera shake?
Not too sure mate tbh depends on focal length too. I wouldn’t like to go below 1/30th generally but I’d suggest you can do
More than 90% of my photos I make with the camera set on aperture priority and auto ISO.
Gaiters are on the wrong feet lad. Ha-ha.
What are gaiters, what do they do.... sorry but I've never heard of them before 🤔
All the gear and no idea 😂😂😂😂😂😂
𝓅𝓇o𝓂o𝓈𝓂 😄
