I like that he isn't a cassette player, I'm not too big on mass shifting. Though, I do think they could've done better with the alt mode, he just kinda crumples up into a "tank". Here's hoping another third party does something better, or that the studio series version coming in 2022 has something better.
At least they got something that actually *transformed* all of the body and looked like a believable alien vehicle, the Siege figure just kinda hid the head, hands and feet and pulled some fuckery with the rest of his body to get a "battle ship".
the mass shifting issue should be solved by making him a teletraan-1 style "cybertronian supercomputer" which would be perfectly sized for a rumble/frenzy minion.

I just recently got mine, and man is this a cool figure. I would have gotten the non transformable Soundwave but it was sold out. The transformation could definitely use some work, since he basically just compresses into a tank like shape. The robot mode is super cool though, and was also a bit disappointed with the elbows at first before realizing the arms tab out. Overall really liked it

Pretty incredible! The vehicle mode is fun, it doesn't have to resemble anything, but personally I see it as a huge troop transport, like a Cybertronian APC. Love it!

I think it looks pretty stoic and alien-like-- like Thanos's giant cone-things that dispense his armies. No distinct area to sit or to "drive" or any semblance of what it is. It's just this moving rig that will kill you when it arrives. To me, that's badass and I absolutely love the "creative liberties", if you will. They did a great job on the alt mode :)

just replace the G1 tape deck mode buttons with a full keyboard, pop it up, and you have the perfect "cybertronian supercomputer" alt-mode with G1 aesthetics and scaling for use by minions like rumble and frenzy. did this(minus the button replacement) on Netflix soundwave and it works really well, even kinda resembles the style of teletraan-1.
I think a "cybertronian supercomputer" would suit him fine. works with the "tape deck" aesthetics, it resembles the teletraan-1 style computer, and without mass shifting it's perfectly scaled to be operated by little guys like rumble and frenzy. I tested it with netflix Soundwave, tilted his button flap up(grey flaps as supports) and set his minions in front of it. ravage, rumble, and frenzy could all comfortably reach the controls.
I wonder if the reason they still haven't released the other OS Constructions is that they are making their own molds that are more accurate yet still combinable.
He's good but altmode is so bad......to be honest i recommend you checking out click brick's soundwave that transforms into a tank and cassette which is very good for it's size. Keep up the great work bud!!!
personally i feel the most perfect soundwave alt mode should be like that in the modern robots in disguise cartoon (not the drone……that military vehicle)

I thought that the hands were too small and seeing it side by side next to the Mechanical Alliance one - it definitely looks much better on SX-02. I dunno if that's screen accurate or not, but I'd have preferred it to be that.

I didn't have any idea or concept of that scientific principle back then, it is just that it seemed weird to me that they got smaller as they transformed. I think moving away from his original cassette player transformation is a good thing although I hope they think of another type of transformation since it look's somewhat similar to Megatron's modern transformation mode.
There is space between electrons and the nucleus. I reckon one sci fi answer for why mass shifting can happen is that the space for that electron's orbit can be reduced so that atoms are more closely grouped together. Their atomic cloud space would shrink. Another solution is the ability to transfer matter into data banks to be store through other forms of energy, similar to how transporters work on star trek. A certain amount of mass is transfered during transformation to make huge changes in size. Combining the 2 theories, you got a lot of room to play with regarding "mass shifting"
Does Tryace plan to release a version of Soundwave? How does this one scale compared to Tryace Toys Optimus? As for his transformation, it doesn't make much sense for Soundwave to be a cassette player anymore. Cassettes, VHS tapes, CD's... are all a thing of the past. Wood love to see him in the next movie become something digital.
I hope Mechanical Alliance does similar figures for all the Cybertronian scene characters... those Shockwave, Arcee. Ironhide, Brawn, Ratchet, Prowl...
Great review, i honestly don't like his design in the bumblebee movie, i prefer a lot is DOTM version, not big fan of the mix "movie / G1", I love both, but together, i think it's not amazing, the figure itself is really well done and even the alt mode is not an aberration, it's juste OK but not horrible i think. Awesome review
That conceptualized alt mode is really something compared to others. It seems you'll just have to pick your poison, the Studio Series pancake or the Mechanical Alliance brick. In any case, still an impressive Soundwave.
not a complaint or anything but it would be nice if you put your videos in chapters so people could skip to sections they want to see in particular or if they wanted to skip the articulation segment or the transformation segment.
Great details (sculpt & paint).. Looks liked it jumped out of the silver screen... Alt mode is Ok, I'm not expecting it to be "earthly" looking since we only saw Soundwave in Cybertron.. Shame it can't hold the gun properly (love the light gimmick though)..

I believe we also had an Energon Igniter's Soundwave from the original Bumblebee movie toyline from 2018.

Teeny tiny little correction, but the gun has been dry brushed, not washed with silver paint. It actually looks like it was sloppily applied as well 🤔
