This Black Sabbath marathon is the greatest thing ever!!! More Sabbath!!
Tim Aughenbaugh perfect way to bring all metal fans together to watch these two fellas here some gold.
I agree more Sabbath would be cool
If only people would stop suggesting deep cuts and let them hear the classics like Black Sabbath, N.I.B, Sweet Leaf, Children of the Grave.
Real metalheads always want the deep cuts! Bring on Sign of the Southern Cross!
@@JimK03. When introducing someone new, I won't show them all of Dehumanizer even though I love it. They've gotta hear the song the band's named after for christsake.
1971: Black Sabbath is the anti christ!!!
2020: Black Sabbath is saving the world!
They are still anti-christ, occult as pure as it comes, save your soul
'ACTUALLY '1969 THIS ALBUM WAS MADE BUT RELEASED HERE IN THE US IN EARLY '1970'.
@@osmankovacevic6135 just listen to the song After Forever, off of the album Master of Reality then revisit your original comment
Totally enjoyed this Sabbathon. The true pioneers of Metal. James Hetfield of Metallica once or twice said he Loved getting his ears bent by Black Sabbath... His Favorite band. Having said that.. Would love to throw out that I and MANY MANY others would love to see you react to Metallicas Disposable Heroes from the Master of Puppets album.. You wanna talk Fire? .. This will BURN the house Down 🤘
@osmankovacevic6135 it sounds dark but dude. listen to war pigs. They're talking about people in power having to answer to God for sending people they're supposed to protect to die in a war for their greed.
"Shout out to the Sabbath drug dealer" LOL
Best statement I've ever heard in response to this song!
What is the trip of weed soaked in opium?
when he said it, it actually made me laugh : D god i love these guys!
The wizard is their drug dealer
Spreadin’ around that Sweetleaf, makin everyone happy! album in ‘70 was the start of All Heavy Metal! You guys kinda understand Most Sabbath Lovers’ it’s not on their list either. But I introduce this after War Pigs, for BS virgins’ Fairies wear boots is the other Different song on Album and one of Favorites
I always thought Bill Ward was trying to prove he could do a whole song as a drum solo. Great song
Bill Ward remains - to me - unbeaten in his field
he did that with rat salad
Misantrock 666 good call
Jazz roots always pays
@@williamwallace2278 Absolutely. You can see that with Mitch Mitchell too. He made Jimi Hendrix sound that much more badass
Hand of Doom is a must-listen.
I second that. One of their darkest, most metal songs
I third that one!

Yes! One of my absolute favorites! Criminally underrated
Somewhere there's a Tony Lommi who is thrilled he got a random shout out on a big RUclips channel
Lmao 😂😂😂
Tony? Hell, I lost my shit when he dropped the "Tommy Lommi" a couple videos back, hahaha! Tommy Lommi.....lol. Haven't laughed that hard in a while.
I have heard it all now. Tommy Lommi, Tony Lommi, and from a former guitar teacher who claimed to be a metal wizard "Tommy Iommi".

Bill Ward is such a great dummer, he came from a jazzy background and had mostly Jazz drummers as his idols. He had more depth than most "rock" drummers and was used to more complex rhythms and changing tempo. Then there's Geezer Butler who really was laying down a great groove. On top came Tony Iommi, the riff master, with his down tuned guitar. And then there was Ozzy, who wasn't the world's best singer, not even close, but he was so charismatic and it just fit to the vibe they were going for
These musicians are at the top of their field and Ozzy's voice could project above the music. I don't think anyone else could rise over the music like Ozzy. And I'm not taking anything away from Geezer, Toni or Bill Ward they are combined perfection.
Sasha Schneider
Black Sabbath played in standard 440 tuning for their first 2 albums. They didn't detune to C# until Master of Reality and used it until Dio took over. After that, including all of the Tony Martin era albums, and even "13", are in Eb tuning. I've been playing guitar for 40+ years. That's what they did.
@@pravolub8 You're right, he didn't down tune yet, for the first two albums he tried to alleviate the pain by playing very light string gauges and started tuning down to C# starting with their third album as a means to further tension relieve the strings.
Not sure why you're talking about "standard 440 tuning", though. They didn't change the pitch of A, they stayed at 440 regardless which tuning Tony was playing in. "Standard E tuning" would've been the term you were looking for.
@@Jason-kz5zv Robert Plant.

Next one CHILDREN OF THE GRAVE by BLACK SABBATH
thats the best sabbath song DO THAT ONE
Along with Embryo!!! Don't forget that!!!
Agreed!
Guys let's not forget BLACK SABBATH by BLACK SABBATH 😎
This song sound like Blue Oyster Cult Cities a Flame in the begining!
Bill Ward and Terrence "Geezer" Butler were both jazz trained and it shows on these early recordings. This album was recorded in 8 hours in 4 track.
I saw Heaven and Hell perform around 2005 and Iomi + Butler sounded and felt like 100% perfect synchronization. I will never forget that glorious performance.
i don't think geezer said he was jazz trained, he just said he played guitar and liked the Beatles. then he switched to bass after tony said he only wanted one guitarist. but bill was classically trained
The Wizard always gives me the chills, pretty much my favorite Black Sabbath song of all. The drums, lead, bass, and harmonica are always moving. If you listen closely, in between the riffs and instrument focuses there is a ton of improv and call and response going on in the background and it lends incredible energy to the song.
Need to do the following:
Sweet Leaf
N.I.B.
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
Snowblind
Yes those are must hears
This + Planet Caravan as closer
Symptom of the universe - the OG thrash song!
I've been screaming for them to be N.I.B for almost 2 years. They've been back to the album it's on and STILL haven't done it! I really hope you get enough likes so they'll see it.
And symptom of the universe
“Hand of doom” straight up has a hip-hop beat in it. Highly recommend it.
100%
And Hand of Doom has a little of everything; down tempo, up tempo, really dirty guitar tone, nasty riffs, amazing drum fills, etc, etc...and deep lyricism especially for the time written. This song may not make a play list, but definitely deserves a listen.
@@ECLYPSER42 It should make ALL playlists.
@DabberDan You haven't listened to enough hip-hop then
@Billy Westerband Yep, Sabbath liked funk too which influenced hip hop!
@Morgoth Bauglir I agree with both of you!
Bill Ward had the smallest drum kit of any of the top metal/hard rock bands I've seen over the years but he hammered the hell out of it and his background in jazz provided wonderful subtle touches that even a peasant like me could appreciate. He was/is a much under-rated musician.
Huh? He used double kicks, one rack tom(sometimes two) and two floor toms. What’s small about that?
Every member in this band is a legend in their own right
Still going ham for Electric Funeral, baby..
Good call, they'd enjoy that one.
U happy
Lovin' this marathon!!
- Children of the Grave
- NIB
- Sweet lLeaf
- Snowblind
Riley Todd this should be the next 3 songs in a row!
Megalomania
Gotta add Symptom Of The Universe to this list. And Sabbath Bloody Sabbath.
@@Poleson Agreed
@Dr. Hannibal Lecter, love the intro to that. I wonder how many 70s speakers were blown thanks to that track?
Tony Iommi is my favorite guitar player. His tone, riffs, chirps from the strings when he plays. The man is missing the tips of his fingers and created a whole new heavy genre is incredible!
Ozzy does a fantastic job playing the harmonica !
Best part of this song is the lone conspicuous cowbell hit.
Needs MORE cowbell.
Commonly referred to as a “Death Bell”
@@joea7876 i was waiting for the second one also...good ear
I’ve always loved that lone cowbell hit. You would think it was accidental but he does the same thing more than once in this song.
I thought they were gonna pick up on the cowbell. The one hit made so much difference.👏
Snowblind is a great one. also, "Lord of this World" is awesome.
THIS!!!!
If only people would hold the deep cuts til they've heard the classics like Black Sabbath, N.I.B, Sweet Leaf, Children of the Grave.
These last two Sabbath videos have been WTF moments.
@@mrmustard4478 depends on the band and the album. and the ones i mentioned aren't all that deep. Planet Caravan, THAT would be a deep cut.
I see how y'all are bumping and grooving to The Wizard! This song is so freakin' funky and bluesy. My all-time favorite Sabbath tune! Just love it. So raw.
"Cornucopia" is one of their underrated songs that needs more love. It's amazing, and no one ever mentions it.
Such a crushing main riff.
@@zachhafer3852 one of their best, I think. These guys should react to it.
Everyone talks about Snowblind and Supernaut but imo the groove in that song makes it my favorite from Vol. 4
Planet Caravan!
@@zachhafer3852 so evil and menacing!
Bill Ward is such an underrated drummer
And The Wizard is one of my favorite tracks for his playing. I also love the drum production on the first record.
He's not.
Bill Ward was never underrated. He's up there with other legendary drummers and always have been
he is a god
Underrated? He's always been the balls...pretty sure he's in the top 50 of all time across all genres.
Never forget, Sabbath were a blues band called Earth before inventing metal. You guys really need to listen to their self titled song that started it all.
They listened to "Black Sabbath," the song. It's on Patreon!
Gary D a great band from a great city. Birmingham!!!!!!
Polka Tolk Blues Band first.
That song is just Pure Metal! Pure!!!
Bill and Tony were in Mythology around 1968
LONELY IS THE WORD!!! Tony Iommi is literally singing thru the guitar. Just a powerful song.
They aren't saying anything about the random cowbell Bill throws in there. So cool.
Because it needs more.
Somebody had to say it.
bill was so ahead of his time in 1970
THAT SHIT WAS INSANNEEE
Was thinking that myself... out of nowhere a random "DONK" appears
Bill Ward is a jazz-influenced drummer who plays with swing
CHILDREN OF THE GRAVE
WHEELS OF CONFUSION
SABBATH BLOODY SABBATH
jeff brochetti correct.
jeff brochetti I've been championing wheels of confusion a lot too, haven't seen too many other mentions of it though, I know George would immediately love it for the guitar tone alone haha
And Geezer was heavily influenced by Jazz Bassists...and that's why he and Bill were a GREAT Rhythm section.
Megalomania and Sympton of The Universe
Sabbath bloody Sabbath!! It contains a section that is essentially a precursor to the modern metal “breakdown”!
I hope they do SBS. I really want to hear them do the riff, DANNA DANNA DA
Yes! Can't believe it's not getting suggested much
Watching black dudes bobbing and jamming to Sabbath brought a smile to my face.
More cowbell! The Wizard is one of my favorite sabbath tunes, I like the harmonica what other bands do you know of brave enough to have a harmonica lead.
Not the same but Jethro Tull had a flute lead
Symptom of the universe. One of the best displays of Bill Ward's drumming, one of the heaviest riff written by Tony
Keep asking, I do ...
First Thrash song before Thrash Metal existed.
I love the way Ozzy's voice sounds on that song.
the ending’s gonna confuse the hell out of them
@@luigihutjrs2472 Welp, they like transitions, so.......
Just remember this stuff is about 50 years old. The used to get chased out of town back then. The sound still holds up today.
Never heard this song as being a song with a marching band vibe but I would love to hear a high school marching band playing this at homecoming game. That would be brilliant!
Man i love this channel. You guys are such a blast. Made my day. Been listening to rock, metal...and also some old school Rap&Hip-hop from the 90' all my life. Awesome stuff man. Black Sabbath is one of the bands that will never die. Listening to them everyday
Black Sabbath is bluesy and groovy. They loved and looked up to Black American rhythm and blues musicians, always listed as an influence. Love this marathon guys!
That classic Doom Metal be hitting differently
Absolutely. And if it wasn't for a tape of Reinhardt, Tony probably never would have picked his guitar up again.
@@oscarsoto9512 ??
David Lee Roth said the same thing, said he grew up listening to blues, soul, funk....
It honestly is pretty crazy to think about when this came out. The Beatles last album came out that year, Rolling Stone's Let it Bleed came out just a year before, The Who's Tommy released in 1969 as well. This was an era that was initially dominated by these late 60s rockers like the bands I mentioned, and then suddenly this album comes out and changes everything.
Yes Sabbath the Legends
Actually, by 1970 it wasn't so much dominated by the guys you mentioned. And Black Sabbath didn't just come out of nowhere.
Led Zeppelin's 1st album had already come out. As well as the 1st album by King Crimson. Both were obvious influences on Sabbath, not to mention others like Cream, Hendrix and Jethro Tull.
@@michaelgeorge4826 Right on! And for heavy music around the end of the 60's you think of Iron Butterfly and Steppenwolf, but when Black Sabbath added the doom and gloom vibe with a funkiness THAT was their contribution in my eyes.
The first Stooges record as well.
@@RayRay-ot5xd Agreed.
Bill Ward always said he played a jazz style of drumming while the band played.

_swedishmeatballs_ Sabbath Bloody Sabbath!

Absolutely LOVE this Sabbath marathon...great job guys! My suggestion is "Hole In the Sky"...fn heavy tune by them Pantera did a cover which kicked some ass...but check out Sabbath doing it.
Bill Ward is one of the best drummers ever. He doesn't get enough credit for his role in making Black Sabbath sound as heavy as they did. I think this song would have sounded more like standard 60s hard rock than heavy metal with a more basic drummer.
Bill had more swing than a outside dunny door, those fills just before Ozzy starts singing just amazing, been listening to them for 40 something years, saw them 4 times, twice with Dio, one of my top bands
as a drummer myself, Bill Ward is one of my top five favorite drummers
Bill had jazz chops and used that to give a feel in metal no one else had, imo.
SixToothSon Bill is probably my favourite drummer of all time. However, I wouldnt say he made Sabbath heavier. His drumming style is closer to funk and less heavy than Bonham or even Paice. It grooves so hard, but bears very little resemblance to the styles of drumming we hear in metal today.
@@robertburkinshaw6365 Actually in my opinion Bill Ward makes Sabbath more headbangable than modern metal bands. Bill always played with a slight swing too which makes it more jazzy but somehow more heavy in my opinion. plus he really bashed the shit out of his kit while still being so precise
Don't end the Sabbathon without listening to "Hand of Doom!" Everything in Alice in Chain's song Rooster screams influence from "Hand of Doom!"
Richard Walters I can already see Lost In Vegas pausing the song 10 seconds in hollering at how dope the bass and drums sound. I hum the opening in my head all the time. Such a groove!
+1 HAND OF DOOM
THEY JUST FUCKIMG REFUSE TO PICK IT lol. I've literally been waiting years at this point for them to do it. So completely disappointed they didn't do it.
+1. Hand of Doom please
Yeah, HAND OF DOOM! DO IT!
Man I love how much y’all are enjoying the Masters! I have listened to these songs for more than 30 years and they still give me chills!
What's so cool is the fact that the anti-war, peace and love era was pumping.....and all of sudden..... here comes Black Sabbath singing the truth on another level!
I saw an interview with Bill Ward. He said his drumming was jazz influenced, especially the drum fills.
Yep, him and Mitch Mitchell (Jimi Hendrix) had great jazz chops.
Bill was a jazz/big band swing drummer before he turned to rock. While he was just getting started, his biggest influences included Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich.
Ginger baker, Mitch mitchell, ian paice as well. All Jazz drummers👍
Embryo/Children of the Grave one of the best guys. Don't miss that one!!!
As far as I'm concerned Embryo is essential to what makes Children of the Grave such a pummeling haunt of a song.
@@edwardbrown7987 spot on
