That takedown was nothing more than Tank having his weight perfectly set up to be vulnerable in exactly the right way for Don to give him a shove and send him flying. Don was seeing stars at that exact moment, and due to his pure heart and Tank's lack of grace - the takedown happened. Don was still punchy at the moment he was jumping on Tank's back and trying to figure out wtf just happened. Ultimately, Don won due to his heart and Tank's lack of coordination. Just for the record though, this was partly luck and Tank was just about to win before the takedown, because he was beating the every loving shit out of Don Frye. I can understand why Tank was upset, but that's where sportsmanship comes into play and you give your opponent what he's earned: respect.

Yeah he didn't succeed in boxing because boxing is barely fighting, it's more technical and more so for guys that started very young and were constistant. Don was great at grappling pre ufc though(which is why he's remembered as the first well rounded fighter), and although his strength weren't lended well to boxing, he could probably beat the vast majority of boxers in a real fight while he was in his prime. One of the most dangerous guys walking around for a while just by virtue of knowing so much stuff that guys in other combat sports couldn't get around
