Hey everyone! So this one is my fault but I completely forgot that UFC on ABC Sandhagen vs Nurmagomedov was this weekend and we technically should have done official predictions in this podcast episode, especially since there are some solid fights on that card too. I'm trying to see if Rob can do a separate video later this week but if he can't (which is likely since he's getting root canals done), then I may do a separate predictions on my own. I really do apologize - again, this one is on me. Let me know your thoughts.

I think it comes down to Belal developing an AKA/Khabib style grappling system. Leon uses the fence to defend takedowns, and that works on traditional US college wrestlers like Colby and Usman, but Khabib's grappling style specifically uses the fence to get takedowns. It's also worth pointing out that Usman was dominating that second fight until he got caught.

Well he did lose the first round but I agree with your first assessment. I think what also surprised leon was just the utter pace, I also seen dj talk about it and he said something along the lines of Leon is a sniper and a sniper needs time to get his shots off. Belal didn't give leon time at all and because leon isn't a great counter puncher he couldn't stop belal's pressure.

  • @TheJinPk

I have to completly disagree - Leon was a disgrace against Colby Covington, and that fight actually was everything i had to see, to know that Belal had him. If Colby had pace and pressure he would have took Leon out of momentum, but he was too nervous and cautios. Belal fought like a dog in there, and Leon don't have that dog in him, when he feels uncomfortable he starts to make alot of mistakes and he don't get to start where he wants

    • @LB-eh7sr

15:50 tbf, the number one criteria according to the scoring criteria is effective striking/grappling. It’s a vague term with a big description underneath on the criteria, but they use the word “impact” instead of damage, as impact includes damage, but also diminishing one’s spirit and energy a la a merab performance. They say immediate impact (a cut, a reaction from a strike etc.) should be HEAVILY FAVOURED over cumulative impact, which is where I believe the “damage trumps all” thought comes from, but heavily favoured isn’t as absolute as trumps.
Do I give leon the 5th after all that? Probably, because he evidently wasn’t wholly diminished if he reversed the position and went to attempt to end the fight with elbows, which had immediate impact (the cut), but it all depends on how much the judges heavily favour things

I don't think Leon cutting Belal was anywhere close to ending the fight, if that cut hit standing up that most likely wouldn't even wobble Belal elbows are just sharper. What happened with Costa and Rob could've been a fight ender coz Rob was rocked pretty hard. A cut most of the time is superficial damage.

Leon has fought boring fights before many times, he was just bad in this fight. Looks like the pressure got to him and Belal fight a basically perfect fight. Leon will be back no doubt

I would agree that Leon looked much different against Colby than against Belal. But i felt the Usman fights Leon didn't look too too much different to me. Bc Usman was doing the same thing to Leon until head kick, i felt Usman was clearly comfortably up on cards. And also Leon had a timely fence grab against Kamaru that maybe could have had an effect.. And the refs were on point, it seemed Leon was much more conscientious about grabbing fence in spots too. But just imo, idk if that made a difference or no.. Ofc Leon looked better in Usman 3rd fight, but I also feel there may be some age and injury for Usman just imo.. 9:28 exactly

Im surprised by the Fortnite and Palworld callouts without mentioning an interest in Once Human. Great amalgamation of things yhat seem right up your alley.
Also, I know it's cliche, but walking out to One Winged Angel would be lit.

I don’t think Bobby was really going for a takedown, sometimes on a few occasions he drops down and then comes up with the hands and paddy hit a leg kick at the same time

This pre/post championship Leon talk is silly. He is/was the same fighter. Just like Adesanya, when you put pressure to snipers , you force them to defend instead of setting up their offensive assets. When they defend, they are on the back foot. That sucks the energy out of them because they aren't used to fighting that style. They are used to protecting their striking distance with fakes and overstimulating their opponents. Are you also in the camp that Izzy did not show up vs Strickland? I believe Strickland's style is terrible for Adesanya. Strickland checked Adesanya's leg kicks and did not back up. He would do the same in a rematch. He might get caught with a hook or cross but unless Adesanya knocks him out, Strickland beats him most of the time. Same thing applies to Belal vs Leon.

Leon's striking isn't even that great. Low output and medium power. Good technically but he's never been a finisher.

I was in the minority that thought Belal would get it done - first seeing him appear on the Schmo interview he looked shredded and then all opposition he fought prior to this. Too much was made of Leon's head kick KO to Usman and Leon got complacent thinking he'd do the same here but came across a different beast.
Belal vs Shavkat next for me - hopefully Belal proves people wrong in that fight as well.

Jonny, if you're gonna play DAO on PC, get the Ntcore 4gb patch to fix the memory leak issue. That should be enough to fix the crashes. And please play it. It's the best in the series! It might be a bit dated, but I promise its so rewarding if you stick to it.

The weakness of every sniper like Leon or Izzy, is a pressure fighter who can maintain that pressure and or over power them..Which Usman and Colby couldn't do..I think Usman would have over powered Leon, until he grew older and became more unhealthy..But, full credit goes to Belal and Sean Strickland..Gotta show up when the lights are bright..Head Spike Dead...

Leon was losing to Usman in the rematch until the KO, in the 3rd fight Usman was trigger shy just came back too soon, fought an underserving Colby coming off a 2 year layoff.

Henry Cejudo was telling Khabib one day he needs to leave a distance to avoid being kicked and Khabib answered, it is a fight, if they kick me so what? I want to grab him and take him down, who care if they kick me. That’s the difference between Colby and Usman fighting Leon, they played his distance game and Belal did not care.

Second Usman fight: Leon was DOMINATED by Usman. Won by miracle LUCKY kick. Yes lucky lucky lucky.
Third Usman fight: Fought reserved/anxious Usman who was scared of another headkick. Won barely on decision. Not real Usman.
Colby fight: Colby never showed up to fight, never pressured, never put in effort, simply didn't care enough.

No. 2nd Usman fight was in Salt Lake City. Gassed Leon out.
3rd Usman fight, he figured Usman out. Two on hand fighting against the fence stops Usman's less explosive takedowns.
Colby fight, Colby got clipped early and got scared of the distance and striking.
Belal fight, Leon looked checked out. He did well whenever he tried to actually do anything. He was winning round 1 until he stupidly stood with his elbow guard for like 5 seconds and got rocked by the uppercut.
