  • Filtering your GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) data can help enhance your ability to identify and interpret targets of interest, or, it can destroy your ability to see targets of interest. Practitioners must be careful when applying filters so they do not remove targets from the data set. One way to make sure that targets of interest are not being removed is to compare your data to its previous version after EVERY SINGLE processing step.
In this video, I show an example of a background filter that helped illuminate reinforcements in a concrete wall. At first, the reinforcements were obstructed by another signal, but after removing the horizontal obstructing response the reinforcements could be clearly delineated.

Noggin software is easy to use but the settings are not expansive. You have the filters 1-5 in newer models. You take what they give you. Very nice example of the filter settings working here. Feels good when it happens

Nathan Dixon thanks as always for the comment. noggin is definitely more simple in its filtering. always a trade-off for sure but definitely helpful in this situation. hope all is well.

Can you share which filters you are using for background removal?

Most systems/software call it a background filter. Some just call it filter.
