I watched the video several times and thought I had it right. The gears came out when I went to replace the gasket. Maybe I'm off 180° ? Have to start all over :-( Edit: my valves came unseated when the cam came out. Fixed and running well! I can't thank you enough for this video sir!
I wanted to say "THANK YOU" I just picked up one of the on CL and I am just starting to go through it. Mine seems to be running OK but I have been building a playlist of information for if and when I need it. I have found the service manual on the Yamaha website and was able to download the PDF for free which is nice. It is always better to be taught how to do something from someone that has already been through it...
Awesome video I gotta ask I have a g2 as well seems to blow out the carb and suck from the exhaust is that a timing issue ? I replaced the head gaskets and redid the valves 175 psi on compression
There is no way to jump timing. If it runs for 30 seconds the engine is ok. If one small spec of sediment is in your carburetor it may run good then suck up the sediment and cut the fuel again. After sitting the sediment will fall to bottom of carburetor and run for a few mins again. A simple cleaning and a inline fuel filter fixes that problem.
The carburetor usually pops when it dosen't combust properly such as it's running really rich. It could be several reasons of course but there it a rich/lean screw on the carburetor that I would adjust all the way in and adjust it out one full turn and then a half turn and that will almost always get you on the mark for mixture of fuel and air. A new carburetor can be found on Ebay for close to 20.00 dollars if the jets are bad internally. Running for 30 mins and then stopping sounds like a thermal induced problem.

Thanks Mark. I was having some second thoughts as to whether or not I had my J38 timed right. This vid put my mind at ease.

You helped me out with this. Thank you man!
Thank you that was very helpful. I also have a problem with upper end oiling , can you help?
same here, also fuel spitting from front of carby.
pretty much thinking it's all a timing issue
Sorry i didn't see your message 😞 till now. Hope you got it now.

I believe that's a valve issue. Reset the gaps on your valves.
Thank you, very helpful
Much appreciated brother!
You bet!
Gracias.
Thanks man!
I have 200 g16 it will run till motor gets hot than it tops out the carb and stops has or can it jump time or what

I will try this I may ask you more ok
It may run for 30 mins great and than it pops out the carb and shuts down but it will start again and it starts over

@seadog1955
It means some kind of heat issue.
