    wow! the ending about how Jurassic park paid homage to movies before it was surprisingly inspirational! I never saw half these movies (as I am 15) but loved the jp franchise. now I know of its history and respect it even more. now I want more dinosaur movies to be made that this generation(like myself) can enjoy and inspire many like me

    We really need more movies/books about dinosaurs :( I love Jurassic Park and its sequels to bits, but in the end it's always the same story being told over and over. I would love to see someone come up with something brand new.

      This video is good, but it really barely skims the dinosaur (and near-dinosaur) movies that were made before 1960. I saw many of them as a child. The same goes for some real oddities of the 1960s-70s. They deserve to be seen again, and I think you'd be amused!

      Stelleappese I grew up watching the films and many other dinosaur movies which where not mentioned here and I can understand your love for Jurassic Park. Jurassic Park revolutionised what was possible in film but it also created an issue for anyone else who wants to make dinosaur movies in that people now expect such a high standard of visual presentation of the creatures that it makes the cost of making a dinosaur movie that is not a part of the Jurassic Park franchise too expensive for studios too really consider making. Still we do get the occasional minor studio making a movie but they are direct to home release and not usually that good.

    The Megalosaurus was a nod to The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms. That movie is one of my all time dino favorites, because of the 'adoption' scene. I remember wishing so hard that this could happen to me. lol
    Uhm... Gwanji was an Allosaurus. 11:55 mark... The ropers were thrown at a pole, mounted on a Jeep, according to Harryhausen's bio. This movie brought my two favorite genres together.
    "The Land Before Time" was Disney's reimagination of Bambi. At least the similarities are spread throughout the movie.
    Thanks for bringing back a lot of these greats! HAPPY NEW YEAR!

    Interesting video. I just wanted to point out that Ray Harryhausen did not work on King Kong, he did work briefly with O'Brien on a Puppetoon short, and then was O'Brien's assistant on Mighty Joe Young. That is a Plesiosaur in When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth. I do not believe, or at least have never heard that Disney's Dinosaur ever made a dime. Baby, Secret of the Lost Legend used men in suits, the heads used animatronics.

  • @Tyresaurus
    @Tyresaurus 2 года назад

    Gee, I am kind of getting emotional here. Seeing how Dinosaur films evolved. And Jurassic Park is the most accurate one, it may not be 100% accurate, but when you compare it to later Jurassic films, you can see their designs go too far such as the new Giganotosaurus from Jurassic World Dominion. If you look the the original concept arts, it's waaay more accurate and more Jurassic Park style. That's one of the best things about the original 1993 film, simple and beautiful designs. One of the things I love about the Jurassic film series is that they don't completely make them into blood thirsty monsters, they show them as true animals. And they did a great job with the Giganotosaurus, inaccurate, but a true territorial animal. -Tyresaurus

      That is a classic, but, to be honest, they were actually lizards and caiman with rubber fins taped to them, so, it may not be the best example. I'm not saying this to be PC, but, as one who has raised and bred some of the animals seen in this movie, I, too, find it abhorrent, especially the scene where a lizard obviously has its foot tied down while a "volcanic eruption" burns its head. That was a Varanus Salvatore, known more commonly as an Asian water monitor. The 2nd largest lizard after the Komodo, they can become quite docile and trusting, also exhibiting startlingly high intelligence for a reptile.

    Godzilla King Kong & Jurassic Park are my top fav Dino movies of all time should Primal Rage ever be made into a movie then it will be number 4 ? What I love about all 3 movies so much is despite them all being fictional interpretations of Dinosaurs they all have real life counterparts & are major factors in everyday prehistoric pop culture especially Godzilla . Godzilla is in my opinion the greatest Dinosaur or if you will prehistoric movie ever made because despite him being a Kaiju now he is & always will be the greatest Dinosaur ever he's a true power house & a true King ? It's because of Dinosaurs that I fell in love with both Digimon & Transformers such as Beast Wars it's because of Dinosaur's that I gave Power Rangers a chance to begin with . Even DBZ kept me involved with them because they featured Dino's to a extant . My Favorite tv shows of all time are Dinosaur's Digimon Godzilla 2001 & the Power Hour Flintstones & Extreme Dinosaurs .

    Most of the time in this video, when a dinosaur is referred to as a brontosaurus, it's really an apatosaurus.

    • @PrehistoricMagazine
      @PrehistoricMagazine  8 лет назад +4

      We were just referring to them as what the films called them. For much of the last century it was referred to as the brontosaurus... And new evidence says that Brontosaurus may actually still exist separately from Apatosaurus: dinosaurstop.com/2015/04/07/brontosaurus-is-back-new-analysis-suggests-genus-might-be-resurrected/ But yes, Hollywood has been obsessed with Brontosaurus and never really got on the Apatosaurus bandwagon until recently in films like The Good Dinosaur.

    • @MattHedgern

    Sorry to be negative here but we animators get tired of this art form getting misquoted.Stop motion is not claymation.Claymation is the animation of plasticine and indeed clay, stop motion puppets as seen in movies where first sculpted over an armature then stripped after the moulds had been made from that sculpt, the armature is then recast cast in foam latex rubber. You have not researched properly . Also, the dinosaurs were not re-purposed from BC for Gwangi. Read up first before making an educational video please.

    To me computer generated dinosaurs cant touch the original King Kong. It was made by hand, The people who made Jurassic Park did not really make the creatures, The computers did, They were just programmers. Put these same guys in a room with a movable model and a camera and let them try to animate the models. You would end up with something that looked like gumby.

      @ Chris Malinowski : _Jurassic World_ is not bad. If anything though, you should be concerned about how he put favors it more than the original film.

      ugh! The only stop motion dino film I ever turned off while watching. The dinos were halfway decent, but, soooooo dull and cheap, otherwise, even the dinos coudn't save it. And, back when I saw it (1989), I was a lot less jaded than I am now.
