It would be so neat to take a picture of the kids beside a tree that gets really tall. Later in their life, they could see how small they were when the tree was planted. ❤ The trees are beautiful ❤

I agree, a Leyland cypress would be overwhelming behind the fireplace, but i'm sure you will find the right one ...gee it's so cute to see Benjamin with the "big guys" shovelling along with them......he'll be an expert planter by the time he's 10! Oh and one more thing....Would love one of Aaron 's Fly-over drone shots of your "Tree Lane" 🌲🌳🌲🌳

When we planted 15, 1foot tall blue spruces I couldn't wait to see them full grown! BUT I realized I was wishing time away! I couldn't help it, I wanted to see them full grown and covered in snow looking beautiful! Well, it's now 36 years later and wow are they beautiful. So glad we planted so many evergreens and deciduous trees right after we moved in, the shade around the house is wonderful and not to mention the beauty it has brought to the yard. All my husband's idea. Good thinking hon.

I have watched this channel for a long time. Today I realized that I wanted save this video for the evening, some days I can’t wait to watch it with my morning tea. Laura has such kind demeanor and is whip smart about gardening. Everything they do is with such precision and organization from their barn storage to the new “dirt” property. It is a joy to watch you with your children too. With that said I come for the garden but I stay because my OCD brain loves the positive energy, the beautiful planting and all of the organization. Am I the only one that loved watching all those tubers getting being organized and but to bed? ❤

In my country we have a famous city head gardener (who is responsible for planting the streets and everything city greenery) who cautions people about leyland cypress. He says leyland cypress is very short lived, but not in the sense that it will just die on you, it will get ugly in about 10-15 years so owners tend to cut it down. It ages fast. He cautions about birch and willows as well. Not that you would want to plant every single tree for an eternity, but just a caution.

    • @thomarch81

😢 Have to agree on Leylands... I'm in Mid Missouri knowing they do well in East coast & mountain elevation areas. You'd see years ago many planted in my area... we had 10 looking great for 1st few years, but they started dying loosing entire branches....real dissapointing with time & moneys spent! All had same problem each spring worse...growers said this tree winter kills due to our really low humidity & air dewpoints most of winter ... so "winter kill" happens here, especially with snow & sunlight reflecting up on tree like a mirror & burns lots of branches!
Sad indeed replaced all with Giant Arbs growing well!! So don't recommed in our area!! Laura's area maybeok. Check your area for sure before getting one!

A woodland landscape is something few people think to or want to do because of the time scale involved. 20-30 years for a tree to grow up is hard to imagine. It's the time scale when your children grow up and your grandchildren come to visit before you can stand back and reminisce that you did this, you planted this forest so long ago. Our cedars and spruces have put on 50 additional feet of growth in 23yrs. To about 125ft now. Its awesome 🙂❤

I love seeing the Leyland placed all by itself ... here in Atlanta you'll see Leylands planted side by side to create privacy/hedging and they eventually crowd each other out and die. Nice to see how beautifully one can be when allowed to spread and grow and thrive !!!! As always, thanks for sharing your knowledge, enthusiasm and inspiration !!!

Picture this: a cart with wide tires you could use while packing the dahlias. Instead of going back and forth gathering the dahlias, you would roll the cart right down the side of the drying rack, pack them, then roll the bins out to the Gater. You’re the hardest, most sincere worker I know. I’d love to see a cart being helpful to you. Bet Paul could whip that right up for you!!

I had 14 20 yo Leyland cypress as a property line barrier. Hurricane Florence laid down every one of them. Took us a very long time to cut them up snd get them removed. It was actually a blessing because they had shaded the branches beneath thus losing their screening ability. I have replaced with a group of ornamental trees…..serviceberry, styrax, redbuds, cherries (kwanzan and yoshino).

I've seen a lot of ways to plant trees. Round holes, square holes, fill with native soil, all compost, half compost half native. But plant them high is a game changer. Aaron is right, the plants tend to sink, and you need some room for the compost. If landscapers did this there would be a lot less "volcanoes" around trees. Thanks for the tip.

I have a gardening business in zone 6B south eastern PA - wet / humid environment . we have seen 30 year old trees with the cage still in tack as well as the burlap and twine still attached. These trees were either removed or had a diseased so we dug them up and were able to see. Established in the landscape for years (before we were their gardeners) ☺️

Hey Laura, I love your channel. It's one of the channels I consistently watch. You share so much knowledge and beauty with us, which I greatly appreciate. It has blessed me immensely over the years as I work to improve my gardening skills and knowledge. In light of the fact you're working with a lot of vermiculite, I thought I should share that I recently learned that vermiculite has asbestos in it. I'm definitely not an alarmist and I don't want to be one here, but I noticed a lot of dust kicking up when you were pouring the vermiculite into the Tub Trug and I thought I should mention it. Thanks for all you do for the gardening community!

Hey Laura and Aaron: When I plant stuff, I place two or three HEAVY BOULDERS at the base to anchor the plant so those tiny new roots won´t be disturbed by the wind.

LAURA: My dad has a Leyland Cypress he planted years ago over a small greenhouse on his property. BIG MISTAKE!!! It was in a 2 gallon container when he bought it; it is now EASILY 70 feet tall, and he was quoted 5k to remove it due to size and location!

I agree with you, a narrower tree will be better. Love your design ideas. So fun watching you work.

Hi Laura. Love watching your videos. It’s my morning routine while drinking my coffee and before I start work. Was wondering if you could ever do a Q&A with Paul and Bethany? We see them all the time in the background and would love to get to know them better. Just a thought. Keep up the great videos! 🥰👍🏼

Each tree is so unique and beautiful. Wouldn’t it be sweet if we could all see their beauty 15 years from now? You do so much work for the beautiful dahlias. You are both wonderful parents to love Samantha back to good health. May she get better soon!
