  • This 700km backpacking and camping hike takes me from Lac Leman to the Mediterranean, past the Mont Blanc massif, across the Vanoise, Queyras and Mercantour mountain ranges. It was postponed for two years running due to the Covid pandemic. When a severe heatwave struck Europe on the third year I wavered in my decision to go, but I did go, it WAS hot and this is the second of three videos covering the journey.
This part from Entre le Lac to Larche leaves the GR5 and crosses the Vanoise with its high peaks on the GR55 and enters the Queyras mountain range, back onto the GR5.

Lovely series. I too am surprised at the small number of comments. I especially like your focus on the walk and the landscape. A refreshing change from the solipsistic focus on the inner life of the walker that seems fashionable now. I don't mean that to be unkind to those who walk to heal themselves but I welcome a change that looks at the challenge and the beauty of the world outside of the self. Well done and thank you very much.

I think I made my own sections using Outdooractive routing and manual adjustments from its maps. I've since found that Traildino.com is great for gpx files. GR5 was the las trail I used the Garmin, since used the phone, much easier, better and 150g lighter!

Alan, just one more point. I see that you use OutdoorActive software, as I do, and have the route on your Garmin. I just use that software on my phone. Did you download the whole GR% route? If so, where can I get it?
I have done many sections before, so know the route okay. I am also staying in refuges and not camping. Thank you. Jeremy

Alan, I am just doing 2 weeks from Les Houches to St Etiene Des Tinee, about 25 KM per day. Am not camping, but have booked all my demi pensions. By the way, what was that charger on you backpack? Jeremy
