He tried his experiment with beryllium, boron, lithium their may be others too.
This is because alpha particles are heavy and beryllium is a light elements ..so when alpha particles strike beryllium nuclei , they don't reflect back moreover they push the nucleons so, the neutrons comes out of nucleus.. In case we use hard element like gold ,the alpha particles will get reflected so as in Rutherford scattering experiment..
