How To Play Russian Destroyers (Ft. Delny) | World of Warships: Legends

  • I've seen various people around the community saying they're struggling with Delny. I suspect this is because they're treating Delny, and Russian DDs generally, more like conventional destroyers -- for example, the USN DDs. But the Russian DDs are not like conventional DDs and shouldn't be played as such, in my humble opinion. Instead, they're much more like tiny little agile cruisers.

    I always appreciate you advocating for the Russian dds. I love them. The biggest problem is teammates not understanding how they play... expecting typical concealed dd play. As I always say, especially if an enemy dd is on the same flank, these dds help the blues win the flank, then take the cap. The cap is delayed, but the team is in a better position overall. Playing them the more manic the better (if the player knows how to dodge)

    Historically Tashkent's nickname was "The Blue Cruiser" the blue because she arrived in Sevastopol painted in Italian blue grey and cruiser because she was bigger than some of the Soviet light cruisers. They mostly used her like one too, she was a heavy scout and Destroyer Leader both roles that had previously been done by cruisers. Delny and Khaba are just extensions of that. It's what they were built for IRL and what they're designed for in game.

    Distracting Red ships and forcing them to use their damage con is highly beneficial to one's team; every salvo Red fires at the long range destroyer is a small victory for Blue.

    Excelent video and tips. That is just the right way to do it. If i had rumble i would even main him with Vian, Mordoff, Furiora or Burke as inspirations.

    As other people have said, drawing fire and staying in the open giving constant spotting information offsets the drawbacks of this style of play. Also, you can easily take caps once you have the positioning of the enemy team down. So it's not like they can't cap, they just cap like light cruisers cap.

    I like the Russian destroyers but teammates never understand how they work, I had one game in my tashkent where a friendly battleships died early after rushing in and he kept spam sending me hate and then I finished the game with 4k xp and he shut up, it just shows how some people don't understand how different ships play

    I'm curious at what point in the five minutes (7:37-2:37) that you were shooting the Des Moines did you realize that he was a potato and all he had to do was turn around and head north to win the game?

    If you have rumble you could run him instead and put sims and splendento (helps turret traverse) as inspirations or sims and whoever else maybe Hyde and do a full hp build.

    So I do a bit of a dif setup instead of Rumble (Cause I don't have him) I use Vian as an Inspo with Sims ofc just to get the most out of that dispersion buff and tank builds if you run that setup have 0 chance of hitting you it's quite lovely

    What inspiration would you recommend for those of us who don't have rumble? I was considering perhaps Vian.

    Hej Xarkun...I prefer Vian as the second Inspiration. And it works good

    • @Xarkun
      @Xarkun  Год назад

      Yeah. Was I using Gurin for the build? I think so. The Sidestep commander skill also gives you incoming fire dispersion, and obviously Vian plays well in tandem with that skill.

    Thanks for this. I've had issues with Russian destroyers due to me using a more torpedo focused play using Japanese destroyers.

    Team doesn’t benefit much from an ultra light HE spammer like this one or anything heavier either. Also these ships are non- competitive in my experience. They are sometimes fun.

    Sounds like lighthousing to me 🤫But you basically have described sound military tactics still used today. Why do you scout, to find enemy. Why do you lure enemy into firing, to expose their position and distract them. Why, so the REST of the force can lay massive firepower on the now identified and located target while scouts slip away to do it all over again. Of course that’s why ya wanna kill the scouts so you can go back to being undetected again and thus unbothered by enemy. But by you keeping that DM occupied. They were not supporting their team and not firing on others, so in actuality, what you were doing WAS helpful to your team and detrimental to the enemy. Thus proving the fallacy that farming for damage is not a good thing when it actually is. When you are farming (aka engaging the enemy) , you aren’t capping, others are. When others are capping, they are not engaging the enemy you are and thus have one less ship shoot8ng at them. So yes go farm to hearts content, you get rewards for enemy engagement directly and team wins overall, sound familiar? Ya see it every day in sports. Everyone has a role to play, if only all,of them did. If everyone does thier job, the victory should result overall
