Hi David, Can you elaborate on why you cannot use the same domain for mailgun as what you have for your actual site domain (e.g. actionvloggers vs. vloghow)? Is it that the dns records required by mailgun would conflict with what you need for your actual domain? Additionally - following the DNS verification, I'm prompted to choose API usage or SMTP - do I use SMTP for ghost? Lastly - are you aware of an api or documentation for registering new email addresses? I.e., I'm using ghost just for the backend piece - I've done the UI myself. I want to store emails so that I have a mailing list for a newsletter, but I haven't seen any documentation for the api that accomplishes this.
Hi, is it possible to go through "Edit the nginx config files for your second domain" in the "SSL for additional domains" section in Ghost developer docs. I am stuck on how to do this, please? Thanks.
Hello David. Thank you so much for this video ! I have a problem: I’m setting up ghost with a subdomain … and the host of my domains is kind of old school. Is there something specific to know when connecting to a subdomain? At my first try, ghost couldn’t connect with the subdomain. Then I gave the subdomain an ipv4 Adresse with the the IP address of ghost at digital ocean. But well :E And I’ll have to wait 30 days to transfere my domain in any way so it would be cool to geht some feedback.
I left a comment on the companion video. Looks like you made of how-to video for hosting your own ghost. I look forward to the section where you talk about setting up mail.
Cool video! I currently have a WordPress based blog, I’ve been thinking of switching to Ghost for some time Would you recommend it? My follower base is minimum at the minute as it’s a new blog Is there an easy way to migrate content from Wordpress?
I love Ghost, it's great for the right person. If you want to blog and send your blog posts out to an email list and run a paid subscription service it's great. WordPress is better for everything else. I made a versus video on the two: ruclips.net/video/kIhDc-Qpm5Y/видео.html
when doing a domain registration is it appropiate to just do a 1 year registration with a auto renew or is it better to do a 5 year domain registration with a auto renew? my thought process is doing a 1 year with a auto renew isnt a guaranteed keep the website someone else could snatch it in my head confirm for me please if u know
You're over thinking something that is not important :) The advantage of registering 5-10 years in advanced is that you can lock in a low price now. With Namecheap at $8.88, in 5 years the price will probably be higher. However, you don't want to register a domain for that long you won't use or sell.
Yes, the shared plans don't allow the access you need for Ghost. You'll need to be on a VPS plan, which is too expensive for just starting out. Digital Ocean is quite cost effective so it's a good option for Ghost. Also, there is always Ghost.org to use.
Thanks David for this nice video. I am still confused between buying the 9$ plan of Ghost and 5$ Plan of digital ocean. Regarding the number of members, do we have a limit on Digital ocean? Because in Ghost for the 9$ plan, you have only 500 members as a limit. Must the 5$ plan on digital Ocean on y early base? can I cancel whenever I want? What are the most recurrent technical updates that someone must do after having his first Ghost website running? Thanks David.
There is no limit to the members when on digital ocean, the limit comes down to your email service provider of choice. In general, I suggest using Ghost dot org for most people as it's the least technical and just works out of the proverbial box.
Nope, you update Ghost via the terminal. It's not to techy, if you can follow along and get Ghost setup on Digital Ocean, updating is just as easy: ghost.org/docs/update/ I guess I have my next video topic to address :)

Thanks for the video. As a individuals person how can i create a stripe account. Previously its not activated.
Stripe is a separate service and website. You have to sign up and create an account. It's not too difficult, but it's how you get paid.
I can't seem to find windows terminal
hey david can u guide me how to update ghost blog using command line

@@DavidUtke Thanks for the video! Much appreciated!
Do you have any resource on how to install ghost on a plesk server?
No sorry. It's been a long time since I've used Plesk.
Alright thanks@@DavidUtke
can I host multiple blogs and websites on one droplet on digital ocean?
Yes you can, diigtal ocean is techy but quite flexible once you get the hang of it.
Is domain free or have to get from NC??.. does email newsletter need seperate new domain name?
Domains are never free. The newsletter needs a subdomain or a new domain if you want the simplest way to get started.

If I use hostinger, will there be compatibility problems? I'm a noob at making websites, but I want mine to be privacy focused.

No need to setup msql?
Not when I installed it on Digital Ocean.

How to add a comment box under any post in ghost powered website
Funny you asked, they just launched native comments. I'll be coming out with a tutorial on this soon.
