So, after watching this video, I went on a search for a McKinley snare drum. I found one on Reverb and was able to buy it. After a couple of restorations in the hardware I was able to get this drum to sound awesome. Now one of my favorite snares in my collection. Thank you Rick for your knowledge and your channel. I look forward to the next video.

So glad you got one of those. It's such a beautiful sounding (and looking) drum.

There is a picture of Buddy Rich playing what looks like this drum on the back cover of the 1994 CD reissue of "Krupa & Rich." Love your videos!

I owned a Ray McKinley. It was a fabulous sounding drum, incredible quality but I found the throw and snares to be a bit problematic regarding versatility. The buzz was fantastic but I wasn't a big fan of how the mechanism held the snares to the head. The stretched across the head vs against the head (great loose feel for folk, rock, etc but for soul and funk/tight snap, not so much). With different hardware, the drum would be perfect but I would never alter such a piece of history. Sadly I let it go, hopefully to someone who could put it to it's proper use. Great video/s. Thanks for putting out "pure" content.

Rick thanks for the great videos! Do you have a video where you talk more about the leather muffling that you are using?

I mention it in a few videos. I have a friend who makes those for me. They are basically thin leather held onto the drum with a binder clip.
