Nintendo's star character Mario has been in over 70 games. 70 GAMES!!! Which leads to the question, does the Super Mario series have a discernible timeline? Or are Mario games, like many have been led to believe, a random assortment of games with no attention paid to continuity. While this may ultimately be true, there ARE details in the Super Mario games that allow them to be pieced into a timeline order...and the implications of that are SHOCKING!

But... this proves that Mario isn't as mental as we all thought. He obviously hates Luigi because of his stealing Peach from Mario. HE wasn't the one to preform the animal abuse on DK, but rather his father. And his idolization of Pauline isn't because he's a promiscuous psychopath, but because Pauline is his mother.

Wait a minute... This theory totally busts the Mario is mental theory.
For a first, the crazy guy torturing animals is jump man, not Mario. The other thing is how he acts toward luigi. If you had a brother you trusted and then he "stole" your love, you would probably not act so nice to him when he finally achieves something. Also with peach and Mario no longer being together, and Pauline being out of the picture as Marios mother, it would mean that Mario is in fact dating daisy. Thus Mario only having one lover. But hey that's just a theory buster... A game theory buster, thanks for reading.
MatPat busts his own theories all the time. Case in point: every FNAF video he's ever made.

But that's all it is; a theory. Theories are nice to think about and can be proven to be real things but shouldn't be taken as actual facts. Mario is a friendly kids game so they're obviously not gonna actually put in facts about him being a psychopath and I doubt that they thought too hard about this elaborate timeline. After seeing Matpats latest announcement, coming back to this vid is very emotional, this was one of the first videos of The game theorists that I watched from when it was within the first year of its upload, and ever since then I’ve been an avid fan of this channel. Will always love this channel.

I just realized something I never really paid attention to before now. MattPat, do you remember your Mario us evil theory? There is a crucial piece of the puzzle that you're missing and it's so bad...you can call it the smoking gun.
Forget about Mario stepping on Luigi's foot after a tennis tournament...I want you to turn on any copy of Super Mario Brothers 3 and watch the little skits before the demo starts. You will see Mario get his racoon tail and send a turtle shell hurtling at Luigi. Remember, these things are deadly when they make contact. He quite literally tries to maime Luigi at the start of the game. There is nothing brotherly about that at all...

My theory is that Jumpman and the Pauline from the original DK games actually had _3_ children: Mario, Luigi, and Pauline the 2nd. That would explain how Pauline can be both Jumpman's girlfriend in the OG games and Mario's damsel in distress in the modern games. To add even more to this, in the OG DK games, Pauline is wearing a pink dress and has orange hair, meanwhile Pauline in the modern games wears red clothing and has brown hair, adding to the idea that they're not the same person.

Metin Kilic well first note is.. it probably shoudl be "game hypothesis" but that doens't sound very fun (theories are proven reprovable and 100% reproducable). like theory of gravity vs the hyptothesis of what black holes are) so some people who are bit word snobby are annoyed by that. I think most people pointing things out aren't doing it wit venom. (though undoubtly some are. internet being the internet).
Most are pointing it out to grow the theory and to hear feedback if possible.
Thats how theories work you gain more perspective and more information and you redfine the theory.
by pointing out things that people feel are missing it allows further research to be done on it.
Most people are just listing points left out, they aren't insulting him. This is the process of theory/hypothesis development. Which given the name of his show, and his previous actions is exactly what he wants. A discussion on the topics presented in order to expand and grow thoughts.
Hell this video's content was likely inspired by a few thoughts or points people ushed around for previous mario videos, tossed in Matt's brain through his and the other 2's more vast knowledege forming into this theory. Discourse brings forth ideas. While not all discourse is pleasent all discourse is useful for the creative process. It's just a matter of tuning and focusing it into something good. Which this youtuber is quite adept at.
Of coursae the venmous messages are just stupid but there are thankfully few of those.

One of the best looks at the Mario Timeline I've seen, my only questions are: what about the Mario VS. Donkey Kong series? Primarily Tipping Stars. Also in Super Mario 3D Land we see that the Super Leaves didn't exist in the Mario world until you knocked them out of the tree in that game, meaning Mario 3D Land has to exist before Super Mario Bros 3 right?

Haedox I think a few of them run in their own universe, the Mario and Luigi RPG's and Paper Mario RPG's seem to be set apart from the main platformer titles. Plus Galaxy and the existence of remakes such as Mario 64 and 64DS suggests there could be multiple universes easily V:

The Goombas aren't animals, and the stomping thing is sibling rivalry. Also, Luigi is left behind because Mario wants Luigi to protect the Mushroom Kingdom if a threat pops up and he's not there or he dies, or Mario doesn't want to lose Luigi or for him to get hurt.

You just disproved the "Mario is mental" theory then...
1st he never abused animals, that was his father obviously
2nd his abuse of Luigi was clearly from the fact that Luigi got his girl, so Mario was trying to "get revenge"
3rd he clearly wasn't promiscuous, if Daisy became his girlfriend AFTER Luigi stole Peach from him, and Pauline (if thats how you spell her name) is their mother
Pretty much the only evidence you now have for that theory is the fact that Toads were turned into bricks, and as far as we know there is no spell to turn them back, so it could just simply be Mario putting them out of their misery, since he can't help them

It do good to our hearts to revisit these old videos just to hear MatPat and Drake together.
Mario spent his life being the hero, leaving Luigi in the shadows. However, Mario had no time for romance, but Luigi did. Luigi started a relationship with Daisy. It started out genuine, but he secretly resented his brother for his fame. Peach really cared about Mario, but again, Mario was too busy being everyone's superman to just be her man. Luigi was there and charismatic, so eventually, a late night turned into more. Heartbroken, Daisy left Luigi and went to another country where she got into trouble. Mario felt the call of the restless hero and went to save her. At the end, Daisy is afraid of being alone and Mario is tired of all the violence he's committed in his years since leaving the plunger behind. The two fell to pieces together, but at first, neither was complete enough to really give each other the love they deserved. Daisy helped Mario with his PTSD and eventually, their bond grew stronger. Luigi and Peach's relationship was founded on pettiness, but no one else needed to know that, so they kept up the charade of a happy couple and went swinging on the weekends.
This got me teary eyed.
I mean, there is also the theory of the Starbomb song "Luigi's Ballad", that of Mario being an overly aggressive, in-your-face guy when coming on to Peach, while Luigi is a lot more noticably sensitive. Now, even though we don't hear from Daisy, we could simply believe the idea that Peach (who chooses Toad at the end), just wants something different for a change, but eventually gives in to her own thoughts of Luigi being a sensitive shoulder to cry on. In this timeline, we could also tack on the idea that Mario catches Daisy on the rebound, making these relationships all make sense.

i think this is incorrect because oddysseys ending were peach chooses mario kinda debunks this

Helping this video: Jumpman and Mario can still be different characters with Super Mario Odyssey. Pauline is remembering her brother saving her in Mario vs Donkey Kong, not Donkey Kong. Luigi’s Mansion 3 probably takes place not long after Luigi’s Mansion 2. Same goes for 3D world with Bowser’s Fury. Sparks of Hope, while not out, likely takes place after Galaxy 2. If there is any mistake tell me and I will edit the comment.

Also Pauline has blue eyes, and Mario has blue eyes. You can't really see the eyes of jump man well, but blue is not a particularly common color among Italians.

Same with Donkey King. So 15 for DK is in his prime the same time Mario might be. This fits a bit better if Mario is maybe a year or two older than Donkey Kong. So by the time Mario was an adult at 18 and in his or very close to his prime, DK was an adult maybe at about 10 or 11 reaching his prime at 15 and staying in that prime area for quite while. There's also the possibility that Mario might have been born a year older than DK which would help this theory, but even without that factor it still makes sense. DK being a gorilla ages faster than Mario.

SourceRabbit I haven't played the second yet, but I've read the comics before the launch. About the first one, which I completed about 3 times (them achievements) was kinda straight forward..... There are two "endings" the normal one where you complete all of the jobs and kill the mafia boss or whatever, and the other one, an alternative timeline where the biker survives the encounter with "you" the protagonist, searching for the root of those calls.
If you collected the password ("iwasbornintheusa") you'll understand a lot about their practises. It's kinda stupid (it probably has a lot more to it) but they're just a bunch of nationalist psychopaths who targeted... psychopaths, to do they're dirty work. Now, how do they found the right guys for the jobs... and what compelled those guys to mass slaughter... I dunno. Maybe I'll understand in the second one.

Fredrik Ljungkvist Here is my exclamation of the Paper Mario Games and the Spinoffs (Kart, Baseball, Golf, etc)
In Paper Mario, Luigi's dairy states that he misses the days when they went go-karting and playing golf with his brother. Which means that all of the golf and karting games came before this game. And we know that SPM came after the first two Paper Marios because of that small pictures of the partners from the previous games.
As for PMSS, in the Egnimansion,(I hope I spelled that correctly) when Mario turns around and sees the Boo, he gets freaked out. Which means that he has never seen a Boo before. And the Boo's first appearance was in SMB3. Which means that PMSS came before SMB3. But wait, Bowser JR is in the game, so that's impossible! Or, the fact that the "new" galaxy came so that Mario completely forgot about Boos and various other things. Which means that this takes place between SMG and SMG2.
But where do the other three Paper Marios and the spinoff games come in? Sometime after PiT, the adult perspective. Why? Well, how else would the babies be able to time travel forward in time to go go-karting with their adult selfs?

You forgot about Captain Toad. During the end of his game, Toad notices a green star and goes after it. It later shows the Super Mario 3D World intro except it shows Toad entering the pipe as well. This means that Captain Toad takes place after 3D Land but before 3D World.

I haven't played captain toad but I have played store Mario u abd if you play the captain toad mission in that game you see toad jump into the pipe from the beginning, if I'm not mistaken, so that means those games take place at roughly the same time.
