I watched it very late in my life (late teens), it sure was quite a fun ride of a T.V. series, I heard it has quite a niche following at least from what I heard.
Was born in the 70s and this show along with Tales from the Darkside and Creepshow was a staple in my youth. You had some solid picks from that series. Being a latchkey kid with divorced parents I had a lot of free time and cable was surprisingly content heavy with these shows. Helped develop my love for genre stuff in sci-fi fantasy and horror. I bought the dvd collections ages ago and ripped them for easy access. The second incarnation of outer limits and Twilight Zone are other excellent anthology entries.
I have been meaning to check out that second incarnation of outer limits. I'm a little more familiar with the OG show. Much thanks for watching & happy holidays!
I was a big fan of Tales From the Darkside as kid, but Monsters I mostly missed. In my hometown, they aired it on Saturday afternoon/early evening. So I was nearly always out playing or off somewhere. Shame too. It was very me-friendly. This was a great episode with exceptional editing. I hope it's a really big hit for the channel.
Hey Rob! Thanks for checking in man! I was curious if this was maybe one you had seen as it's filled with a variety of creatures. I'm more into horror lately myself (zombies and ghouls)...but there were other 'monsters' in the series that felt like throwbacks to the 50s/60s sci-fi creatures I know you dig. Worth checking out if you ever get a chance. All the best!
My Father owned an Apt in New Brunswick N.J., and one of the tenants rented out an apt, as well as the basement. That man was John Dodds. He did the vast majority of Special FX for the show. Really nice and awesome guy when my brother and i were growing up
Hey that's very cool! I'm a fan of the practical FX for this show...it was very well done across the 3 seasons. I know with 'Tales from the Darkside' they shot in LA and NY, so I assumed maybe the same for 'Monsters'. In which case anyone in Jersey would have certainly been part of the production. Good stuff! Thanks for watching & sharing, happy holidays!
@FeverDreamlandTheater if you google john dods special fx imdb his profile will come up. He worked on 9 episodes for Monsters, and is extremely prolific in his work. I am sure you may even be able to contact him, and possibly even setup an interview with him. Tell him one of the sons of his old landlord Kenny in New Brunswick mentioned his name.
Same here. The opening credits to shows like this and similar shows of the era were all very memorable. (Amazing Stories, Tales from the Darkside, New Twilight Zone...etc...)
This anthology series has never been on my radar until now, but I sure as hell will binge this series soon. And I've caught a couple of videos of top episodes of Monsters from other RUclips channels lately. Great list!
This one was put on my radar mainly from people here in the comment sections. It made for a fun watch. Certainly recommended! Thanks artofverser! Happy holidays!
Excellent top 10. Monsters definitely had some great episodes and effects even for a small budget for tv series during that time. This anthology doesn’t get the love it should like Tales from the Darkside and that needs to be fixed.
Looking over your other videos, all of which I've watched and loved. You got another subscriber just by taste alone. Might I suggest a little known series called Nightmare Cafe? Six episodes, Robert Englund. As well as the boxed set 50 Drive-In Classics. It has some horror movies I never knew existed.
Hey thanks for the kind words Yendorhawk. I feel like someone mentioned 'Nightmare Cafe' to me before so I'll have to follow up on that for sure. Sound totally up my alley. Thanks for the suggestion! All the best & happy holidays! 🤜 🤛
It's time I checked out this antho show and got acquainted with it. I was 22 when it first aired but never tuned in back then. I do know that "Monsters" was a syndicated series like "Tales from the Darkside". A lot of the fun in these old shows is seeing all the actors that are recognizable (at least for me). Keep doing the videos, they're enjoyable. Your writing is good. I can't imagine how long it takes to make one countdown video like this--- so I appreciate the effort, man. Enjoy the holiday season!
Hey Eduardo, thanks for sharing and thanks for the kind words. Yeah these top 10's are always 2-3 months of work on and off. But the shows fit the vibe, they're fun to go through and since I'm still a small channel, I'm thankful for the boost they tend to bring. All the best, happy holidays!
I watched the first 6 episodes so far. I loved every one of them! I’m gonna watch more. Wow Soupy Sales and lots of other fun stars! I enjoyed the movie Asylum. Great vid, amigo! 🎥🎥🎥🎥🎃🎃🎃🎃🦇🦇🦇🦇
Thanks! For my more recent top 10's I try to go light on spoilers. I figure even though the shows are old, maybe some haven't seen them yet. Or maybe if people are like me, then their memories may be wishy-washy too, so now they can rewatch the shows and get surprised by twists or surprises all over again. lol
Only seen a few episodes of this. It barely aired here in the UK but some late night cable channels did show it sparodically and it got some random releases on VHS which is where I found it. Top class video as always Anthony. Best wishes for the New Year and have a Merry Christmas as well
Dude amazing list I love your top 10 lists. Monsters I always liked even though it wasn't that popular. Pool Sharks and Match Game definetely would be my top 2 I'm stoked they made your list. Cheers brother! Stoked for Thursday
Wow! Talk about The Man from Carbuncle! 😅 This show looks hilarious. I have to admit i never caught it. It probably played over here in some random late night slot, but i can't recall ever having watched it. Great to catch up with this episode of FDT! Awesome job as always, Anthony! 👊🎬
Heeey Greg, yeah this one is more on the obscure side even here in the U.S. too I think. Much thanks for popping in, I appreciate it. Have a great day ahead bro.
I had no idea this show existed until my uncle recommended it recently. So far, I've only seen the episode with the healer. This looks like something I would enjoy since I love anthologies. Great list!
I could at least tolerate this show as a kid because some episodes were just flat out funny. Some were scary, but either way, the practical effects and costumes and make up were ridiculously good and memorable. It was Tales From the Darkside that I couldn't tolerate out of sheer terror. Was very happy to see that the Feverman episode was featured. My personal favorite and most memorable episode next to the episode where Tempest Bledsoe from the Cosby show falls in love with the Zombie boy.
Yo, FDT! You know me I can't get enough of anthology horror and monster stories. This is one of many shows I need to watch and your videos always keep me interested. Always love your top 10s and rankings. I consider this an early Christmas gift. I hope you're excellent, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
Hey Charles! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays man. Not to worry, I went light on spoilers for the most part this time around. Thanks for checking in and see you in 2025! 🤜🤛
Adam Jones the guitarist for the band TOOL did SFX work for a ton of movies with stan winston in the 90's and one of his first jobs was on this show, im not positive what episodes but the mannikins of horror episode looks alot like his stop animation work he loves to use in TOOL's music videos.
Hey would you ever do a video on “Outer Limits”?? That show is HIGHLY underrated as well. I never see any “Top Outer Limits Episode” videos. Food for thought!!
Oh absolutely I don't rule anything out when it comes to top 10's. I was working my way through the classic Outer Limits, but still have to finish watching. Thanks & happy new year!
Ah, this brings back memories, this show was followed up with an episode of The Crypt Keeper & Tales from the Dark Side. My little brother (RIP 😢) & I would stay up late to watch the line up.
Hey Mike! That one seems cool too & a few people have recommended it. I have to start from scratch on that one though and hopefully if I dig it...then you can bet I'll happily do a top 10. Thanks & happy new year!
I slept on Monsters when it came on after Tales From the Darkside - not sure why. Over the years I’ve seen a few episodes but I don’t think I’ve seen any of these! 😲 Great video Anthony!
My last comment disappeared for some reason, but great video. I've never seen this show, but it looks like an interesting alternative to Goosebumps and Twilight Zone. Have you thought of doing a video on Cabinet of Curiosities? Really good show produced by Guilmero Del Toro on Netflix.
Hey Scofield! Happy Holidays, hope you've been well! Yeah 'Black Mirror' and 'Cabinet of Curiosities' I've been wanting to do as well. In the case of 'Cabinet of Curiosities' there were only 8 episodes, so maybe I can do top a 3 or a rank them. Thanks for popping in!
Some of these were great but I liked Love Hurts, The Vampire Hunter, and All in a day's Work (Adrianne Barbour). The Match Game, Pool Sharks and some of your other ones were excellent though!
Hey, Mike thanks for watching....great call on those picks! All in a day's Work was great as well....I loved the little creature in that, I made sure to at least show him off a bit here for a little bit.
Ha ha, oh no doubt. And in many cases, I went light on spoilers, so there's actually far more nightmare fuel in the complete episodes. Especially Farmer's Daughter and Mannikins of Horror. Much thanks for checking in Bones! All the best & happy holidays man! 🤜🤛
Great picks. Loved this show. Another couple I like are "All in a Days Work" starring Horror Icon Adrienne Barbeau. Also, "The Family Man", even though the kid in that isn't the best. He tried. :)
The Hole is one of my favorites. It's pretty bleak and inspired my love war/horror stories. I also liked the episode where a guy gets a job working in the subway and finds out he has to fight monsters. (Yeah, there's always something they don't tell you about in the job interview.) We need shows like this again.
The Hole was surprisingly grisly & bleak for something on tv...I liked it it too. Also I agree, we need shows like this again! Even with the super low budget 'Monsters' had, it still cranked out some gems. The closest modern anthology show I can think of that's sort of similar is 'Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities'. It's possible, there are others too I'm just not aware of. Anyway, much thanks for watching! 👍
This show and Tales from the Darkside, were a major part of my childhood. My Mother was a very big horror fan and she'd never watch the movies or shows alone, starting at the age of 6, I was the only one that was willing to sit and watch with her.
The premise of The Match Game could be a reference to A Gathering of One Hundred Supernatural Tales, a Japanese game played at night, when people would meet to share ghost stories. Stories were told one by one by the light of a hundred candles and after each story a candle was blown out. It was believed that spirits would arrive after the 100th candle was snuffed out.
Hi Anthony, I hope you're doing well. It's time to get caught up! I can't say I'm all that familiar with the _Monsters_ series, because I wasn't watching much television back then, but I do vaguely remember it. The episodes you cite do indicate that there were some creative juices flowing, for sure. What I recall most about it isn't any episode in particular, but that wacky opening. And you know what? As soon as I saw it again, I made a surprising connection: _The Simpsons!_ Sound crazy? Indulge me for a moment. _Monsters_ debuted in 1988 and a year later _The Simpsons_ came along. I contend that Matt Groening was inspired by the earlier show's intro. The two are by no means close to being identical, but the similarities are striking. Consider: *_Monsters_* The opening credits begin in space, and soon descend, looking down on a house in a suburban neighborhood, at which time we are taken into the living room where a monster family assembles in the living room to watch their own show on TV. *_The Simpsons_* Clouds in an otherwise blue sky give way to an arial shot looking down on Springfield, and after the characters are introduced in a madcap sequence, Homer ends up back at his suburban home, where he is joined by his family in the living room to watch their own show on TV.
Hey Galantski, hope your new year is going well so far, always cool hearing from you! I love that theory of the Monsters/Simpsons intro. I never picked up on the similarities, but they are there. Now that you mention it, I would have loved a Simpsons / Monsters opening parody with Homer as a potato head guy, Marge as a Cyclops (maybe swap in Leela from Futurama lol)
@@FeverDreamlandTheater 🙂I like your parody idea, but what about Bart? If you think about it, he already looks kind of like a juvenile version of Karloff's Frankenstein monster with his square block forehead, doesn't he? Come to think of it, but Marge with that beehive hairdo bears a bit of a resemblance to the Bride, too. But then, Treehouse of Horror was way ahead of me. 🙄
You did a good job,hey i watched Monsters when i was a kid ,but then it was gone, then i started watching them again With Glamster, and perversions of science.
Oh snap..Tori (her name is Beverly?!?) Spelling played some black hair dyed chick that would look perfect in 'Night of The Demons '? Thats cool personally. It's so fitting that she wound up in Scary Movie 2. Its funny when you say "Monster of the Week", I realize that means I'm probably not wrong that I wanna [believe] say that 'The X-Files' could count as such.
Hey Mikey! I likely picked up the 'monster of the week' phrase from being an X-Files fan. ha ha. They would sometimes have episodes that were stand-alone / not related to the ongoing alien arcs, and people and articles tended to describe those as 'monster of the week' episodes.
@@FeverDreamlandTheater Oh you mean my favorites! That's why I even liked the show.I really never cared for Mulder and his sister and their aliens. I just wanted a creature feature 🧟🧌🧛🦹
yah love this show watched it back in the late 80s when it first came out this is my top ten in no order: Pool sharks The Feverman A Bond of Silk Far Below Cellmates The Hole Shave and a Haircut and two bites The Waiting Game Sin Sop Hostile Takeover
Oh I love this series, in Spain was emited by local TVs at the end of the 80s with other classic series such as Red Dwarf, or Dr. WHO (with Tom Baker) but unfortunately it was not very successful beacuse it was emited at dawn, so nowadays it's imposible to find chapters in european Spanish
Classic Saturday night entertainment (in Detroit it was Saturday night 😂) whole block.. monsters, tales.. and to end it off, crypt keeper, we lived for this 😂😂❤ don't get me started on tales from the darkside theme, I still remember the dialogue during the intro 😂
Oh no doubt...just hearing "Man lives in the sunlit world of what he believes to be reality...." that would be enough to send shivers down the spine of kids.
Hey very cool! Yeah I'm not as familiar with the fan favs for this one. I know episodes such as 'Hollie's House,' 'Manikins of Horror' and 'Match Game' are favs but the rest I'll be curious to see as comments pop in. Thanks for watching! Happy holidays!
Great list. Great show. I got the entire series for Xmas a couple of years ago. Strange side note: Anyone else notice that the doll at 22:06 had Donald Trump's head?
I remember watching this with my family growing up in the 90's but it kinda fell between the cracks as the years went on. For the longest time none of us could remember what it was called all I could remember was the intro and the episode with steve buscemi
Yup that one wasn't what I was expecting at all. But in a good way, instead of being a bug invasion, it was a really weird tale with all kinds of creepy twists and turns.
Pefect list to put out 4 days before Christmas! On the real, I loved this show, and the one I remembered best was always "A Bond of Silk." Fun Fact: the spider movie from 2024, "Sting," completely ripped off the ending to that episode!
Omg! I totally forgot about this show! That opening with the monster family just punched me in the face with nostalgia!
Candied Critters actually sound good.
Loved this show as a kid
Same here
Yes this was an awesome show, be nice if they brought it back.
I watched it very late in my life (late teens), it sure was quite a fun ride of a T.V. series, I heard it has quite a niche following at least from what I heard.
When I was a kid I watched this show every week never missing an episode.
Me too! I was 9

I've _never_ heard of this show before, so thanks for this video showing it to me.
Great job 👍 I always liked this show and ' Freddy's nightmares '😂❤
loved that one too

I always liked the intro with the lump monster Dad and the cyclops Mom and daughter 🧟♂️

I watched Monsters upon its release in 1988 and loved it. I would have added to the list the episode with the subway monsters as well.
Consider:
*_Monsters_* The opening credits begin in space, and soon descend, looking down on a house in a suburban neighborhood, at which time we are taken into the living room where a monster family assembles in the living room to watch their own show on TV.
@@Galantski 😆😅😆
Fondly remember this show. My favorites are “Cell Mates” and “Holly’s House”
Also “Bond of Silk”
Solid picks as well! Thanks Joshua!
Ok, dangit. I subbed! Just FYI I was watching a terrible Jeffrey D-- mer movie and yours was recommended as my "watch next" video.
Ha ha, well however you got here...I'm glad you made it & hope you enjoy the channel. All the best & happy holidays!
I definitely remember the opening monsters
You did a good job,hey i watched Monsters when i was a kid ,but then it was gone, then i started watching them again With Glamster, and perversions of science.
Hey papmasterOST! Thanks for checking in, I have to give perversions of science a go.
@FeverDreamlandTheater you know it,And oh definitely.,Hey Thxanks
My fav was the 2 guys that survived a nuke inside a military base with vampires right outside.
Great TV series ❤
Stressed Environment, The Face , Small Blessing are my faves
Good choices and all three of those had some quirky and unique FX, the little rats, the face on the hand and that creepy baby.
Love this show I have it on dvd in a boxed set
I freakin' LOVE this series!! It's my favourite right behind Tales From the Dark Side.
Very cool, this series was a fun watch for sure. All the best & happy holidays Humong0us!
@@FeverDreamlandTheater -- Happy Holidays, FeverDreamlandTheatre, all the best in the new year.
yah love this show watched it back in the late 80s when it first came out this is my top ten in no order:
Pool sharks
The Feverman
A Bond of Silk
Far Below
Cellmates
The Hole
Shave and a Haircut and two bites
The Waiting Game
Sin Sop
Hostile Takeover
Solid picks as well! I dug 'Sin Sop' as well, great concept!
_The Waiting Game_ was the best one.
I love your accent! ❤❤❤
Thanks Jennifer! : )
Awesome
Hey Naomi, thanks!
Drago was also in episodes of the original Charmed & in one of the Tremors movies.
Holy SHIT this a blast from the forgotten past. I actually now remember seeing that messed up finger episode.
Fever man is in my top 3 episodes tbh. It just felt verh unique compared to skme of the other episodes imo.
Bug House and the episode where the man could see the cancer monsters are 2 episodes that have always stuck with me
Ashley Laurence🧎🏽♀
Classic Saturday night entertainment (in Detroit it was Saturday night 😂) whole block.. monsters, tales.. and to end it off, crypt keeper, we lived for this 😂😂❤ don't get me started on tales from the darkside theme, I still remember the dialogue during the intro 😂
Oh no doubt...just hearing "Man lives in the sunlit world of what he believes to be reality...." that would be enough to send shivers down the spine of kids.
Bug House was my favourite. I knew it had to be high on your list.
Without watching this my favorite is called "The Demons" with Richard Moll from Night Court. Funny AF.
Never heard of this show. Gonna have to find it. I love anthologies. They're more efficient. Normal series seem to drag on.
Wow. I had forgotten about this show.
Great list. Great show. I got the entire series for Xmas a couple of years ago. Strange side note: Anyone else notice that the doll at 22:06 had Donald Trump's head?
Hey BlackSpineHorror! Thanks for checking in! I noticed the series is up there in price now.
Everyone tells me that is the greatest episode. They love the Trump head doll. "Trump head doll, Trump head doll!" I've heard them say it.
I came to say the same lol
A excellent short lived show
I remember watching this with my family growing up in the 90's but it kinda fell between the cracks as the years went on. For the longest time none of us could remember what it was called all I could remember was the intro and the episode with steve buscemi
Hey Xstickbuddyx! Same here, this show was on late nights so I caught it a few times growing up. The episode with Steve Buscemi was 'Bed & Boar'.
Definitely do remember seeing “Bug House” and can definitely agree on it being a disturbing episode
Yup that one wasn't what I was expecting at all. But in a good way, instead of being a bug invasion, it was a really weird tale with all kinds of creepy twists and turns.
I used to watch this and tales from the darkside. Also enjoyed the Twilight Zone and Tales from the Crypt
Pefect list to put out 4 days before Christmas! On the real, I loved this show, and the one I remembered best was always "A Bond of Silk." Fun Fact: the spider movie from 2024, "Sting," completely ripped off the ending to that episode!
Wow, okay I have to give that one a go. Thanks jfgibson.
Don't forget Friday the 13th
The opening is Sasha Jenson, Donny from Dazed and Confused, and Tori Spelling i think ! And I was correct!
OMG, i didnt recognize the name on the first monster but when he spoke i immediately recognized DUCKY frim NCIS ❤
Mannequins of Horror was loosely adapted from a segment of the same name from the 1972 horror anthology, Asylum.
