This song was released in 1984 and was written by J.C. Cunningham. This was the kind of orchestral country music that DAC was rebelling against early in his career, during thec1970's. ---#UTRCM

i actually like the talking in it and in other songs. it kind of changes up the pace and maybe makes it more dramatic. at least in my opinion

Thanks for the great reaction Don! The song is quite beautiful and so different from most of his stuff. I have another one for you too, I may have suggested it already, Marty Robbins - The Girl With Gardenias in Her Hair.

DAC didn't care what people thought about him. He did & said what he wanted to. I have always thought this song was beautiful. He's a good songwriter. A beautiful song he wrote that Tanya Tucker had a hit with is "Would you lay with me(in a field of stone)?" Very deep love song. Most people thought it was a dirty song & were upset that Tanya, a teenager at the time, was singing it. You have to really listen to the words. To me, it's about the person asking how much do you love me?

The talking points put me in mind of Whispering Bill Anderson.... The guitar intro put me in mind of Marty Robbins. Pretty damn poetic though, for a guy who also wrote that old sentimental tear jerker, "There's Cum Stains On The Pillow, Where She Once Laid Her Head".

It's funny you mentioned this was almost the perfect county song, you need to listen to his song "They Never Even Called Me by My Name"

Maybe the only song I know and like by him. You never called me by my name doesn't even make sense until the last verse. I liked that part.
