  • I attempt to repair a non-working Game Gear with a clearly blown transistor on the power board. Other problems arise after the repair.

UPDATE: After doing a lot of comparing voltage readings between this Game Gear and another working one of the same model, and changing out a few components that may have been faulty, I was not able to fix the video. Either the screen is just about dead, or there's some other issue that I'm not seeing. Unfortunately, switching LCDs between Game Gears is not easy, and I don't want to risk ruining a perfectly good unit to troubleshoot this issue further.
Either way, I'm done working on this unit and plan on keeping it around for parts.
FINAL UPDATE (9/21/2017): I ordered the McWill screen mod and installed it in this Game Gear first to see if the problem was the original screen. The new screen worked great, so it turns out the old LCD was fried. It's too bad that LCDs in Game Gears weren't easily interchangeable.
