Hey Transworld, first I've got to say thanks for giving us vids like this and not just keeping all the info in the magazines. However, here's some criticism that I think need to be stated... Craig Davis obviously rips and I'm sure he'd be a wealth of information if this was a 450 shootout, but you happened to send the one guy to the 250sx intro that has neither recent notable experience on two strokes to compare with, or experience with air forks. Those two things are literally the defining features of this bike and all we got was a comparison with antiquated early 2000's machines and what ever Craig happened to read about air forks on the internet. Surely you've got someone around with more experience...
Why not? if you want a bike that feels like a jack hammer with the power delivery of a rubber band then get an 80s 2 stroke. Otherwise the new one looks awesome. No vibrations, smooth power delivery (like the 4 stroke) and a good power output without having to fork out for a worked 250f motor. It's the perfect mx2 weapon for someone that wants to be competitive on a budget on a more user friendly machine.
Of course, 2 stroke stopped being built and all development they already had for 2T were put on the new era 4T. However, they need 4T strokers to try and trying to make the bike a smoother ride for pussies since the power is uncontrollable for some people. Nothing wrong about 4 strokes, but 2 strokes are the essence of pure power riding without the help of cams, and a bunch or valves to help you keep the bike running by itself. If you can ride a 2T hard, you can blow up a 4T, master it. Give a try in a properly 2T, not a junk 2Tbike from the streets.
2 Stroke are way more powerful & fun to ride.. The acceleration which you would get in a 2 stroke.. You would never get in a 4 Stroke.. Plus 4 Strokes are hard to maintain.... More parts involved.
Need to check and maintain things on a 2 stroke more often is the annoying thing. 4 strokes generally don't need a rebuild until 100hrs. 2 strokes need one at about 40 to 50 hrs.
I really like that twitchy feeling from the old bikes. Just insanity when you just roll into it is what I want. If it's anything like the TC, I might give a little weight to the flywheel, since it's low end comes on hard throughout the mid to milk it that way. Then adjust the power valve to really let it get some more twitch. Up the rear sprocket and get the best pipe for extra over-rev. Later, I'd bump it up to the 300cc jug, rejet the carb, p&p the jug/head. Just want more kick and strong twitchy power for that rush they give you. Factory service could be an option too.
300cc sounds a great medium for power to weight like 103kg 300cc monster sounds fucking awesome but add lighter rims lighter clutch add ceramic wheel and engine bearings and a pro circuit titanium carbon shorty pipe and not the ugly 4t pipe that sticks out I hate 4t pipes on 2 stroke plus 2 strokes are meant to be light scramblers so I think a 95kg 300cc machine would be a missile around the track
lol I seen a 250sxf with titanium bolts but why pay for that shit on a 3kg heavier machine like it's not worth it like a 2 stroke is cheaper faster lighter
I feel like more and more test riders are saying things like "haven't ridden a two stroke in 10 years" "never tried an air fork before" "my last time on a ktm was in 1999" "I normally don't ride 250s" etc. And I appreciate their honesty, but you don't learn much about any short term improvements made on the bike.. of course he is blown away by this thing.. but that was inevitable since his last ktm was a 2001 model.. there must be guys out there that are constantly riding and comparing new equipment right? That can tell us every little changed detail in feel and durability etc. Between this bike and last year's bike? I always felt like experienced all 'round guys were lining up to be testers? I feel like a guy should look more into a rider's background and his current ride and application of that bike and then pick a rider based on what matches up with the bike at hand. (Nothing against this rider's general knowledge or anything personal, he gave great feedback with what he knows and is familiar with..he just didn't seem like the guy to ask about the new ktm sx250 )
I could care less about 4 strokes. This video was not helpful at all. Please get a person knowledgable about 2 strokes to ride and give their opinion of this bike.
gage ireland I think many people here are getting confused with what a tester means by feels more like a 4 stroke! I have ridden both back to back many times, a 2 stroke is still a 2 stroke, what they mean is that the power delivery is more linear and broader than in the past, I grew up riding and racing 2ts mini's and 125s and 250cc 2 strokes through the 80s/90s but I started on some older 70s 2 strokes, now they had a power band that hit like Mike Tyson and lasted about as long, been riding these newer 2strokes since 2011 and the power is definitely still 2 stroke especially if you ride a equivalent 4t then jump straight back on a 2t, but, but the power is allot more broader easier to use than in the past, this is not a bad thing, especially in stock form this equals more sales and more appeal to riders in the market! Saying that the goal of all riders especially pros and bike manufacturers has always been to make more power but useable power, we have reached that evolution now in both 2t and 4t and would have been there even earlier if not for 4t rule introduction at AMA and FIM level. You can still turn any 2 pt into a ill handling power beast with the same old mods that a,ways have been available to 2 strokes, you'd have different power valve springs you can try to suit your style you can buy a pipe header silencer that can give you the characteristics you want eg more shorter hit in mid to top end or bottom end, heads ported, or an aftermarket head, cut holes in your air box etc etc etc Guys you are over reacting and actually this is a pretty good review and competent review, so what if he's not a 2strokes pyromaniac like the rest of us, I thought he was pretty spot on. Actually pretty high praise coming from a 4t dude. Honestly I like 4ts, I thought as I got older the newer EFI bikes would really be suitable for an older dude, but riding back to back I'll always be a 2t guy, unfortunately they're is so much bullshit out they're by guys who have never ever ridden or raced either or only one ESP 4t you aren't gonna win this argument online, only educate people if they are open to it! That's unlikely these days too. So my 2c fwiw thought it was a good review, cheers TWMX.
did anyone els say to themselves dang i wonder how much it costs and almost thought about buying it when all of a sudden an add pops up in the right corner of the video hahahaha!
if two stroke had the technology that the 4 stroke engines had then the two stroke would hit the power band a lot faster and then it would become easier to rode but they decided to evolve the 4 stroke then the 2
I want my bike to vibrate. I want the levers to rattle. I want that sumbitch to blow white smoke like a fire breathing dragon, not a fucking magic carpet.
here in europe.... its the same bike everywhere. I live in Germany and there hasnt been any different recall than in the states. only major recall has been the early models of the 2016s with the spokes.

Its really, really strange when you get these old cats sounding like 2strokes have just been invented, comparing them to this and that and being 'surprised'. Is he 20 years old with a 45 year old look or something? Or has he been kept in a 4stroke box all his life? I see a lot of this from 'pro' riders and its offsettling to me... i can't take what they say seriously, which kinda destroys the whole review thing when nothing they say is relatable or comparable to someone who only rides a 2 stroke.
Kim Jong-il the new wp air forks do not suck at all u guys havent ridden them then , and are just being dumbass stuburn little bitches who think if something was bad before it cant get better.

In conclusion: this bike is a 3 stroke
Hahaha
3 stroke ktamasaki?
julian wilson no it's a 2 stroke
+Kody George it was a joke idiot
KTM....FTW!!!
They keep talking about how it's like a 4 stroke, WE DON'T WANT IT TO BE LIKE A 4 STROKE. stop comparing it to one.
lol yeah, he says it corners like a 4 stroke, because there's obviously a difference...
+Dylon Hayden corners are actually pretty diffrent with the 4 stroke and the 2 stroke I've had both

Rode a brand new 2016 SX250 and it was pretty much perfect, soooo you're saying this is that plus improvements?
yea, the 2016 ktm 250sx is the same as the 15. the 17 is 100% different.
^^^ the bike was new from the ground up in 17
Will you guys be making a video on the 2017 125SX?
If I get this I'll have an xc-w 500 for long distance rides and a 250 for track, short technical rides, and trials practice. Best of both worlds :)
What's the point of buying a 2stroke If it's going to be like a 4 stroke?
Mason Gibbs they're very easy to maintain yourself and much cheaper. Plus there's nothing like a 2 stroke for excitement.
2 Stroke are way more powerful & fun to ride.. The acceleration which you would get in a 2 stroke.. You would never get in a 4 Stroke.. Plus 4 Strokes are hard to maintain.... More parts involved.

Are the air forks more expensive or harder to rebuild than spring ??
This guy is an excellent salesman... :) Now I want one.
whats the diffrence between 2 stroke and 4 stroke ?
Hey, I was just wondering today,---what bathroom do you guys at ("trans"world MX) use when you guys are at a public place?
Kidding. :)
Please change the name before hillary demands a endorsement. :)

is AMA going to bring back 2 strokes to racing again?
No
I could care less about 4 strokes. This video was not helpful at all. Please get a person knowledgable about 2 strokes to ride and give their opinion of this bike.
Nice! They say that there will be a 270cc big bore kit sounds like the perfect size!
KTM has had 290cc kits for years.
2 strokes are the way to go my 125 eats 250 4 bangers every day of the week
Let's compare it now to the 250 4 strokes in alla the championships!!!!
Song?
He just couldn't bring himself to say "this thing smokes my 4 stroke"
Get it Smokes....... hehehe👍😉
Air Forks brought to you by mountain biking technology 15 years ago.
You're welcome
I agree if you ride a two stroke you probably don't want it to feel like a four stroke, not hating on ktm but I think that's gonna bite in the future

Il problema al canotto dello sterzo che si spaccava è stato risolto spero...
the 2 stroke will always be more powerful then 4 stroke
I ride 4 stroke and I always liked 2 stroke, but i like the torque that the 4stroke give
4 strokes already go as fast but way more torque
and cr125 is not as powerful as a yz250f...
***** yea you get 50 hp if you know how to to keep the engine at 8000 rpms and slip the clutch constantly
***** but then a 250f you get 5 less hp with wayy more torque nothing wrong with 2 strokes if you know how to ride it
Time for a KTM 500SX
Dino Aungpe you got your wish ;)
did anyone els say to themselves dang i wonder how much it costs and almost thought about buying it when all of a sudden an add pops up in the right corner of the video hahahaha!

Braden Northcutt you can thank emission laws for that
He knew it had a counter-balancer but didn't know it had air forks. WTF? haha
advertising braw, video feels fake
Fuck, sick.
yeah
I want to ride one.
It has a g.d. engine, not a motor. That is like calling a cat a dog.
2018 KTM 250sx w ONLY 2hrs on it for sale! www.cycletrader.com/listing/2018-KTM-SX-250-5005912406
I don't want easy to ride, I wanna grab clutch constantly, I want complete control over my bike.
I want my bike to vibrate. I want the levers to rattle. I want that sumbitch to blow white smoke like a fire breathing dragon, not a fucking magic carpet.
This dude needs to understand the difference between a motor and a engine 😂😂 really bothers me 😂😂 one is combustion other is electrical
lol fucken idiot
If thats the case should they also call them enginebikes instead of motorbikes?
2017 ktm? We are on,y just past half way through 2016. 😂 fsmdh
They should me making the Nike in 2016 THEN release it in 2017. Not 2016
They should be making the bike in 2016 and releasing it in 2017. Not in 2016
they do it so teams can get some r&d into the bike before the 2017 supercross season starts... and who the hell wants to wait anyway.
+Alan Guiver I'd wait. Cause I ain't paying over ten grand for a bike that shouldn't even be out yet.😂
Shadowwave228
thats cool, meanwhile the rest of us can shred the new gear haha its really not that big of a deal in the scheme of things..
here in Europe this fuck bike it s braking everything: wheels frame crankcase rod etc. every day ktm recall something and you pay work. good luck boys
KTM stands for "Know The Mechanic" lol
Are you talking about the new 2017 line or about KTM in general?
+Wide000
15 16 17 horrible years just like others...
here in europe.... its the same bike everywhere. I live in Germany and there hasnt been any different recall than in the states. only major recall has been the early models of the 2016s with the spokes.
Spokes? You forgot frame crankcase fuel pump and carter for 2 stroke
ENGINE NOT A FUCKING MOTOR!!! ITS PISSING ME OFF!!!!!
that dude isn't fast enough to know what that bike can do
No when its 2020 that bike is old
I got a 2017 65 sx
put ken roczen on it then you'll see what it's made of
Kody George if he rode it he would ditch honda and would be riding a ktm , their that good.

"Funner"? Umm...okay
he says all new but when he’s starting the bike there’s dirt on the back
really ktm>? this guy is the worst person to judge/ test your bike
Look at, how slow he, ascended that hill? You have zero, creds here man! NO! You cannot track, from foreward ever! Leverage-- swing arm, chasis! It's counter balance, retro grade! Sleeter -- Amsterdam hates, what? Austria=
KTM!
air forks sucks
Rusty Shackleford Not anymore
***** You just don't have enough time on them, they've come a long way and the weight advantage is there.
Kim Jong-il the new wp air forks do not suck at all u guys havent ridden them then , and are just being dumbass stuburn little bitches who think if something was bad before it cant get better.
ill admit to that ktms were not good bikes at all not to long ago but these 17s are a game changer and they seriously upped their game.
Kim Jong-il we sent a man to the moon in 1969 im pretty sure we have the technology to make a air fork good in 2017 lol
no e start
it's a motocross bike
+D _MF Ryan dungeys motocross bike has e start
+D _MF most bikes are sold with e start but it's not popular with 2 strokes
they made a place for an add on e start id i remember correctly for the 2 stroke line up this year
Grow some balls and learn how to kick
