- Michael & Justin share their adventures as a married couple, and American expats living in Italy. With Michael having a physical disability, and mobility issues, we like to show our beautiful Italy, while proving that anybody can live their dream life.
In this video, we are excited to show beautiful Italy, as we have a day of sunshine, between what is expected to be many days of storms. In beautiful Scalea, we enjoy our breakfast (cornetti and cappuccino) before crossing the Calabria region border, to the region of beautiful Basilicata, to our North. Today, join us as we take a journey into the Centro Storico Maratea, a charming hillside town, reminiscent of what you would see in a Disney Fairytale. We enjoy taking you along with us, as we explore beautiful Italy, and all of the wonders that it has to offer.

I totally want to see you go to the Ferramenta and buy a toilet seat. Especially if it involved asking by doing Charades - my chicken giving birth (eggs) went down a storm in a small supermarket and everyone was in hysterics. But even if your toilet seat buying was calm and 'boring' its actually interesting for me. Loved this video. Love you making attempts to pronounce Italian correctly. The most common Italian words you use so far seem to be Centro Storico but you are pronouncing the first word the French way. Its pronounced CHentro with a Ch - so keep practicing it. If not then I've been pronouncing it wrong - which is possible! Look forward to your next video.
You are so funny. I find that I often do use charades in stores. (You don't even want to know the charade I used for "toilet seat"). "Butt" it worked. Thank you for the tip on the word Centro. And thanks again for watching our channel.

Maybe I missed the reason you didn’t drive up to the Christ...it is a scary road, but it was possible to drive all the way up there in the past. I have not been there in a while. Yes, that is Italy: Magical All Europe is like living in a fairy tale and whoever comes from the West Coast of the USA will have that impression, very different from California.

Yes Italy is always magic, I love those style of villages.When we went on holidays in Puglia we went to a tipical restaurant and heard for the first time a song I didn’t know who was the singer but I said to my husband well he sings like an Italian Bob Dylan...He was Edoardo Bennato singing «l isola che non c e »...Everything seems possible in Italia, We feel simply good. The first time I visited my parents home in Sicily 20 years ago, which they left 50 years earlier I felt like I had returned home and had tears running down my cheeks as I have now just writing this. Wish I had the courage to live my dream. So happy for you both that you are living your dream.

I have been on 4 continents and many countries within them, but if I knew I could have only one trip before I die, I would not choose another continent I would choose Italy!! I have been from Milan to Positano and all the places in between 4 times.

You should go up to the Christ next time, the drive up is spectacular! Especially the road on stilts at the top. Off season you can usually drive right up to the carpark rather than having to get in the bus for the last bit. Michael would be able to manage the walk to the square to see the beautiful church and enjoy the breathtaking views and also see the Christ up close, and you could take us on a trip up the steps round the Christ, the view from there is one of the best, lovely to look down on the marina :) loving your videos x

What did you guys do in CA before you moved to Scalea and how did you choose Scalea over all of Italy? Just curious? Dear God I drove through Amalfi coast again on the way down and I have NEVER EVER seen it so crowded. This area is far superiour and far less crowded. Why is it not more popular to outsie of Italy? Boggles my mind

I'm surprised to learn that Michael has a good singing voice. Word of warning: watch those pastries. Avoid carbohydrate and sugar if you want to avoid weight gain and diabetes. I have been on the keto diet and lost nearly 60lbs, the result being I'm no longer obese, can fit into my clothes and look years younger. Eat more fat, it doesn't make you fat! On the video, I also noticed a few smokers passing by in the street, so be careful to avoid other people's unhealthy choices.
The floor tiles in those churches were absolutely gorgeous, and it's a pity you didn't tilt the camera down on them.
It's good to take a break from your house and see other places which can perhaps give you some inspiration for all the renovation work you're thinking of undertaking.
This is Michael. Thanks for the compliment. Justin is on prednisone, which creates its own problem. He and I do want to reduce sugars, but it so hard in such a tempting place. We do go walking as often as possible. We are both non-smokers, so we understand what you mean. And yes...sometimes you do have to get out and enjoy the world.

It is not what you eat but how much you eat.. It the Us portions are huge, plus 90%of the food is not natural.. In Italy even if eating pasta, cakes people are never as fat as the Americans.. Enjoy your life, relax, please and stop been on diet...
