Scott I barely remember going there on a school trip in 1965, we had started off in Milan then Rome and Anzio finally ending up in Naples. Unfortunately now you can only remember fragments of the tour.
I use my browser and the Trenitalia site. Just remember to check in to your trip before it starts. Changing the time and date of trips is also very easy in the website if you want to catch a later or earlier train.
My Grandfather landed on The Anzio Beachhead in WWII as a member of The U.S./ Canada First Special Service Force (Black Devil's/Devil's Brigade). He saw action on the Mussolini Canal,Monte La Difensa, The advance to The Tyber & The Liberation of Rome.
I'm always amazed by these absolute gems of places I've never even heard of before! But that tells you I haven't yet seen your oldest video - need to correct that after this one!
Just watched it Steve - I think it’s the only video I’ve seen on Scott’s channel where you don’t get to see or hear Scott. Happy he started turning the camera on himself!
I went to Anzio over 40 years ago. The thing I remember most about it was having the best pizza I have ever tasted. It came from some little hole in the wall place down near the harbour.
Great video as usual Scott. This one has particular poignancy for me. My paternal Grandad was a Royal Marine aboard HMS Penelope, which in February of 1944, whilst providing artillery support of the Anzio beachhead, was torpedoed and sunk by a German U boat. Sadly Grandad was lost with the ship and lies off the coast there. Have been there and laid some flowers. Thanks again and stay well.
I did the exact opposite this past January. I stayed in Anzio and took a day trip by train into Rome! In fact, the hotel I stayed in can be seen over his right shoulder at 10:32.
Cash is KING! I always carry about a thousand quid in various denominations in Euros etc! Saved my bacon on a number of occasions! Another doozy video!
I spent 4 days in Italy last week, the only thing I needed cash for was for bus tickets, I paid for everything else with my card, including train tickets.
This brought back memories of my childhood. When I was 10 I visited Rome for 1 week and then to Nettuno for 4 days I don't remember too much about it only the beautiful beach with roasting hot sand. This was in the late 50's not many people travelled so far in those days. Thanks for taking me down memory lane.
Just discovered your channel and working through all of your Vlogs. Really enjoying your informative information about the places you visit. Thank you.x
The Italians had already capitulated in 1943 and it was the Germans the Allies faced on landing at Anzio. Matt Clark could have progressed quickly after the landing but he dug in allowing the Germans to counter attack. When Cassino fell he had the chance to capture lots of Germans but chose to capture Rome instead.
Excellent stuff. Not sure if you’ve come across a great final retrospective trip by Alan Whicker called ‘Whicker's War’, available on this fine platform. He landed and fought for months up to Rome as an army photographer. It starts in Anzio. A great watch. Thank you Scott for the pure variety of your Chanel.
Crazy Scotto barred from Grotto! Anzio looks super quiet. Will have to check the Anzio film out. These videos are your best content not the ones where your assessing cleanliness of Travelodges, keep it up !
I went to Anzio as a child, the one memory I have is that I got badly sunburnt, the sun is stronger that far south. Looking at your video it seems that this is a less wealthy area of Italy compared with your town vidoes from recent videos.
Hi Scott enjoy your videos. My dad was at the Anzio landing was a navy combat engineer. He went from North Africa through to France. I will make this area a priority to visit. Thanks Paul Rhode island USA
Interesting video, we’ve only visited Italy once while staying in Austria travelling the magnificent Brenner Autobahn to the Europe Brücke and on to Sterzing (Vipiten) in the Sud Tirol. A connection with your video is that the local church In Kirkheaton, Yorkshire where I live is also called St. John the Baptist.
Scott, you and young Steve are spoiling us this week. Were the card payment is concerned I made the same experience last November in Aachen, with the exception of one shop they all wanted cash which meant I had to go to a bank and withdraw some Euros. About 52 years ago, I still lived in Germany, I visited a grotto or cave near the city of Mettmann in the Neandertal, Neander Valley in English. Five or six years ago my son and I made one of our many trips to Germany and I wanted to show him the cave. We were very unlucky as the cave had collapsed. The reason for the collapse was a nearby quarry and the massive vibrations from there. We were rather disappointed.
Tides in the Mediterranean are not a big deal (something to do with the Straits of Gibraltar restricting the flow in and out). The complex linkspans to get to the car deck on the Calmac ferries at places like Brodick just aren't needed in the Med. There's a jetty and any small change in the relative height of the jetty and ship can be dealt with using the ship's ramp alone.
Absolutely love this place. Have stayed twice. Once in Anzio and once in Nettuno. I combine this with a stay in Rome too. One of my favorite places. Not many international tourists and great value for money.
Great episode, Scott. Really enjoy your excellent channel - it brings back great memories of travelling around Europe by train in the 80s as a student. Cheers, Andy
Churchill on hearing the Anzio attack is alleged to have said 'I thought I was releasing a wild cat upon the shore, but all I got was a stranded whale'.
Me and the family are off to Italy beginning of June, Rome for 4 nights, then to Pompeii for 2 nights, Sorrento for 7 nights 2 different places and then over to Olbia, Sardinia for the last 4 nights any advice or tips would be great, looking at using public transport to get around and having to sort out food for ourselves. Not been before.
I love the way those stupid Italian ticket machines scream at you in English BEWARE OF PICKPOCKETS as soon as you click English, so they draw as much attention to the fact that youre a foreigner as possible
This is really great seeing Italy especially Anzio and Nettuno this is a part of the country that you don't hear much about it has a lot of nice places to see very beautiful thank you. 🇨🇮👋👋🇨🇮🤠☕🤠
Thanks Scott, I enjoyed that. I like them a bit longer as you make things so interesting especially your travel journeys the long ones PS - the thumbnail looks great. So many of the people on RUclips pull ridiculous faces…there’s no need. Ever thought of doing that cross country greyhound bus from New York to LA. I’d love to get your input on that. Take care.👍
Anzio of not inconsiderable historical interest of course as the scene of major landings in WWII (and some of the most incompetent generalship of WWII), now probably largely forgotten by most people who've only ever heard of D-day
Weather definitely looked better this time around! Plus you speak in this one 😉 To be honest - if it was my first video on here, I’d just video stuff and add text too. Looks pretty nice there! I’ve only done the Amalfi coast so there’s a lot more Italy to see.
Recently discovered through DNA tests that my dad is half Italian and my grandfather is Italian, whether he lives/lived there or not I'm unsure. Nonetheless I've taken interest in my Italian ethnicity, I don't claim to be Italian or anything but I always love to see your videos on Italy as I've never been and your videos take me there in a way, to see parts of a country I have links to. I hope one day I can go and see some of the places you feature on your videos. Thank you Scott, fantastic work as always
Another amazing video of your Italian adventure but one thing was missing you not visiting a restaurant or cafe I like your take on them 😉 thanks for sharing and u never got blown awa😊
The story about nero fiddling seems to be like the one of Marie-Antoinette telling people to eat cake if they dont have bread... Spread lies by political opponents..
Scott I barely remember going there on a school trip in 1965, we had started off in Milan then Rome and Anzio finally ending up in Naples. Unfortunately now you can only remember fragments of the tour.
I loved staying in Anzio. It’s good and peaceful as a base to travel in to Rome and also to spend time at the sea.
Safety first 🤗 Always.
Thank you

Day trip from Rome to Anzio a week Sunday, looking forward to it, be hotter than Dundee 😆
Cheers, it was worth it.😊

Definitely abit of bromance going on Steve lol.. Love both your channels
Midweek GOAT

Bit of a grotty Grotto.

Nice little trip from Rome thanks Scott. I love these random little trips!
I rrally love the rustic charm of Italy . Thanks Scott
I did the exact opposite this past January. I stayed in Anzio and took a day trip by train into Rome! In fact, the hotel I stayed in can be seen over his right shoulder at 10:32.
Nice memories refurbished
Cash is KING! I always carry about a thousand quid in various denominations in Euros etc! Saved my bacon on a number of occasions! Another doozy video!
Goodness, the "beware of pickpockets" warning would suggest that that's a brave thing to do
I spent 4 days in Italy last week, the only thing I needed cash for was for bus tickets, I paid for everything else with my card, including train tickets.
Great video thanks Scott 😊
Lovely place, but where is everybody?
This brought back memories of my childhood. When I was 10 I visited Rome for 1 week and then to Nettuno for 4 days I don't remember too much about it only the beautiful beach with roasting hot sand. This was in the late 50's not many people travelled so far in those days. Thanks for taking me down memory lane.
Lovley video
Why do people need to spray graffiti everywhere 🤬
Great wee video Scott Thanks again 🙂 That Nettuno looks a nice wee place but that Graffiti on everything is is awful 🙂
Just discovered your channel and working through all of your Vlogs.
Really enjoying your informative information about the places you visit.
Thank you.x
My only complaint is that some of the background music sounds like a 70’s porn film ( sorry )😂
What a shame to see so much graffiti on the old buildings.
The Italians had already capitulated in 1943 and it was the Germans the Allies faced on landing at Anzio. Matt Clark could have progressed quickly after the landing but he dug in allowing the Germans to counter attack. There were Italians fighting on the same side as the Germans - from the ‘Repubblica Sociale Italiana’- the leftover Blackshirts, etc.
@@davidreeves-turner6572 thatt's true but they were not significant
Really enjoy your videos - I am slowly working my way through your back catalogue :-)
Nice one, Scott!

Too much graffiti 😢

Just got back from Rome.if you had been a week earlier I would been going there
Great episode, Scott. Really enjoy your excellent channel - it brings back great memories of travelling around Europe by train in the 80s as a student. Cheers, Andy
Look how wee Blair was! Great video as always. Some beautiful scenery.
Churchill on hearing the Anzio attack is alleged to have said 'I thought I was releasing a wild cat upon the shore, but all I got was a stranded whale'.
È una cosa pazzesca.
THAT'S JUST A SMALL BREEZE FOR A SCOTT. LOL😢😢
It takes more than a Mediterranean breeze to stop you!
Thanks for the vid, Scott.
The opposing forces were basically German. Italy had changed sides in 1943. But a very nice video.
Italy lacks tapas bars... if I were walking around in the old town I would go from bar to bar and try local food and wine...
To be fair, Italy isn't Spain.
Blowing a hooly
Anzio of not inconsiderable historical interest of course as the scene of major landings in WWII (and some of the most incompetent generalship of WWII), now probably largely forgotten by most people who've only ever heard of D-day
I wish we had double decker trains in the UK
Only reason we probably don't is the tunnels not being big enough.
They wouldn't fit under the Victorian bridges.
@SiegfriedDerDrachentoter I think you mean low.
Video good, but Graffiti
GREAT VEDIOS
Your dad went for a sleep and left you near water when you were 5 or 6?
Weather definitely looked better this time around! Plus you speak in this one 😉 To be honest - if it was my first video on here, I’d just video stuff and add text too. Looks pretty nice there! I’ve only done the Amalfi coast so there’s a lot more Italy to see.
Fogive a personal comment--- you have the accent I grew up with. And that gives a bit extra to your excellent content.
Like your videos makes me want to travel outside the us

Please be careful when you go off the beaten track! We worry!!
"C'e molto vento" is about as close as I can come to "It's blowing a hooley". Pity about the grottos being closed off. Another great video.
Another amazing video of your Italian adventure but one thing was missing you not visiting a restaurant or cafe I like your take on them 😉 thanks for sharing and u never got blown awa😊
I wish America had something better than Amtrak!
It's because Amtrak has been hamstrung by the freight companies.
Double decker trains how good is that, come on England wake up , would improve over crowding
Lovely place.sta facendo una cazzata is blowing a hoolie
The story about nero fiddling seems to be like the one of Marie-Antoinette telling people to eat cake if they dont have bread...
Spread lies by political opponents..
Could the problem be that you don’t have a European payment card? 😉
All the graffiti is a shame in Old Town. No one on the beach because of the sand blowing in your eyes. No thanks on caves.
I enjoy your videos but the continuous adds spoils it for me sorry
Then get RUclips premium and you won’t get any adds.
🥺👎
