On the first day, we made a camp next to the big river. We let the river move the logs downstream, so we built a dam next to our campsite and started cutting trees by the river. All of the logs followed the current and ended up next to our base. It was very useful.
This is one of the best “ Intro the building “ guides for beginners, wish I saw this when I first started, but it still helped brush up on my custom structures 😎
Really good video and I love the new building system.! Something to note though is that you can use half or 3/4 logs to make struts. Struts can support beams that stretch across buildings without having awkward beams in the middle of rooms. This clears up more space inside buildings
Thanks for sharing! I absolutely love the new building system as well! I'm already using struts, should have mentioned it in the video as well while I also thought it would be better to keep the video short and to the point without adding too many details as you probably figure that out in no time with these tips
Not sure if it matters for weather exposure or not, but I discovered that using ramps for roofs does not count as shelter when it rains (you still get rained on when inside). You have to build a ceiling (same process as building a floor) to block rain.
If you just bring a full log to the door way it gives you the option to place it and it splits them into planks so both sides look smooth and it’s quicker
I think the coolest feature is that you end up using BOTH building modes almost no matter what. You can use the old building mode to place a blue print of a tree house (for example) and then use the new build mode to add on to it or expand its footprint to make a more epic build
If you face different way of the building area for a door, like say your standing on the foundation the door is going to be on the softside will face outside. If you did what you did in the video here youll get the opposite result :) 6:19 is the time stamp. Hope this helps and very good content my friend thank you!!
Yeah sadly this don't work. I made a building with 2 doors in front but for some reason both doors are facing different directions(looks like sh*t) no matter what I do.

You can decide which way the door is facing actually! (I think) When I played it seemed like you have to build the wall and cut it out from the outside of your house to have the rough side facing outwards. When I did it from the inside of the house, the rough side was inside.
Nice video, I knew most of this you mentioned but you are detailed and quick to the point on what your trying to teach others. The sticks in the water to was a great idea to stop logs from flowing away, this happened to me last night and I think I'll keep this in mind to stop. Again great video and I will SUBSCRIBE!
Yeah, I'm finding it a bit complicated but now I think I can build my base of operations. Is a base really needed or is it just for fun? What defences do you need? When do the hostiles become hostile? Do you have a few days to get ready before they start visiting and or attacking. In The Forest, if I remember correctly you had some time 3 days I think maybe longer.
You have to place the wall logs from the outside. If you stand Inside and place the wall that will contain the door, the door will end up with the flat side in. If you place the wall from outside, it will have flat side out. When you place the first log you can see a little line pointing toward the outside of the wall.
@@derrickshultz6800 bro the guy literally placed the logs from the outside and he had the flat side inside so it doesnt make a difference the game just has to be tweaked a bit

Great stuff man! The only thing thats missing now is to build a custom boat and catapult, I wanna make a navy like in the old one... I wish they add it soon
They really need to let you fill in the sloped walls better. I thought for sure I would be able to do it if I used each size log and stacked them up largest to smallest, but all that does is align the logs on the center, rather than like a staircase. That'd easily let you fill in sloped roofs neatly, so I'm not sure why it hasn't been implemented. Hopefully they address that soon, the recent hotfixes have been nice so far.
@@04AMofficial I did discover that if you use the smallest log section to prop up a sloped roof, it will align it with the corners of the logs placed below it and make the big hole at the center look more like a window.
How do you find a unfinished blueprint location? I put a cabin blueprint down the other day now I can't find it. The required items for it are stuck on the screen
I really prefer the classic blueprint manual building instead of this one, as you need to gather the resources first before building. The game is currently very buggy like the stairs dont work and the treehouse #2 shows the wrong resources requirement. Also when you cut a tree down and falls to a lake, it bounces to the sky like crazy. The worst one is when Kelvin falls into a lake, it's difficult to get him back on the surface. I hope they add a feature where players can reset his position or respawn him.
Can you seal off your base with the defensive walls? I haven't found any way to make a gate like the first game so I just replace logs on my fence when I leave.
Expressing your creativity, building a base that can withstand a massive horde of enemies and hold countless of ressources like a castle. And when they implement the dangers that come with being unprepared in the winter it will definitely be useful then
Store items to get even more, have a ton of everything ready at your disposal to better prepare for any situation, farm food easier and more efficiently, be more aware of your surroundings, increase your chances of survival in winter, catch animals much faster/easier and farm their resources much more consistently, the building is fun in general and idk, why live like a hobo when you can build yourself a fortress? :D
@@04AMofficial Non of which is valid. The game does not encourage hoarding or base building. The survival aspect is shallow and easy, combat is very shallow to the point where it becomes trivial. you don't really need square 1x1 log for floor and walls, 2x1 log is good enough since you can still put the log and half log with rectangular shape. it will save you some logs
True, but its less supportive in the end, not sure if you want to save up on logs if you house can fall apart like a card house if it gets some hits from below :P

I built a bridge across a river, near my building site. Then I cut trees upriver and toss them in the river, they float to the bridge and pile up for my use there. I do this to keep all the trees intact near my building site.
I managed to have two doors on my base, one facing outside the other inside. I think it depends on what side you are when you make the door. Attempts to change it though resulted in whatever it was the first time it was made. If anyone knows how to change doors please let me know because its driving me crazy!
Doesn't seem like it! Tried placing on both sides while I think you actually might be able to manipulate this by first making that specific wall and decide where the door is, Then focus on the rest of the build.
It appears to be determined by which side of the wall you are on when you first cut out the door (or window) portion. If you stand outside the building to make the cut the door will be rounded on the outside and straight on the inside and the opposite if you stand inside the building to make the cut. Once the cut is made, removing and replacing the door or window has no effect on the way it will face no matter which side you stand on to ‘fit’ the door.
You have to do a standard house door for now. Defensive wall gates have not been added yet (I assume they're coming just because it'd be silly not to have them).

What middle? The middle of the front of the roof or the middle of the 2x2. If the middle of the front of the roof than no. But if middle of the 2x2 than yes you need to place every wall down and connect the beams so that beams are supporting eachother and the pillar can be picked up again but also tricky cause if you apply the beam incorrectly the stability can fail and not allow removal of the support pillar which is plaguing me the last couple of hours cause I cant figure out where the stability problem is coming from

does it really make ur base stronger if you put Pillars standing up where the walls go? Stronger as in it takes more damage from bad guys before it breaks?
It supports the structure so yes, without it - your house will fall apart much faster as if some supporting elements 'break', it all falls while the more support - the more it holds
Yes it is, but also the strongest way to do it. You dont want cannibals to one shot your builds as they fall apart much easier when breaking certain elements without proper support
@@llawlied6902 there’s two building types. You can always build freely without blueprints but kelvin only can finish the blueprints with objects that are available. Say you need a rope to finish a build, he won’t go into a cave to get that for you for instance
Building house in survival games is nothing but waisting the time because the purpose of these game is you have to explore the map and when you're far away from your house you finally need a place for protection, resting and eating. But you don't wanna go all the way back to your house.
The only thing bothering me so far about building my own cabin is there’s no markers that I’ve found in the game to set that place on the map. Even after building the bed it doesn’t show up on the map at all. Anyone figure this out?
Place a stick vertically into the ground like you're going to build a standing torch or a skull on a stick, then you can attach one of the GPS markers you pick up from soldiers on it. That'll give you a map marker for the time being until they add a home icon to beds. Alternatively, once you get a second tarp, leave a tarp tent at your base to act as a home marker. Third option: leave Kelvin at home (he's useless in combat and can't enter caves anyway). This is not a 100% solution as he does sometimes disobey orders and will come looking for you (hopefully that will get fixed).
You dont need to build full squares for the floor though, just need the outer frame (obviously) and then lines in one direction (opposite direction of what floor boards will be)
Plant a stick in the ground infront of the door in the direction your trying to prevent visitors to come during an invasion or better yet dont build em outside where enemies can use em. Use a rope to get inside your base or build the lookout structure and then the Zipline gun to zipline into your base. Your brain is the limit to what you can build

@@llawlied6902 there’s two building types. You can always build freely without blueprints but kelvin only can finish the blueprints with objects that are available. Say you need a rope to finish a build, he won’t go into a cave to get that for you for instance
@@foreignrepublic2122 and he's not able to defend you or himself?
@@llawlied6902 im not sure at this point. there is another AI mutant girl thats able to shoot for you once you give her a gun
The early access excuse is getting old. This was supposed to be a full release like a month ago
No log sled?
Kelvin is the new Sled :D Logs on demand!
@@04AMofficial It says "Sled" on the 3d printer. Not sure if its for logs or people...I used all my resin so i wasnt able to print one
@@slpstang08 I saw that too it looked like a people sled lol
@@04AMofficial When I told him to cut logs he went super far away and took over 10 mins to just bring me back 1 😭
There is really no need for a sled you can chuck em 3 meters away and Kelvin can do the few extra meters whike you build your base
Oh my guy, get rid of that center pillar
I like realism xD
Make everyone feel very welcome
As he puts a skull on a spike
@@Tantalus010he doesnt disobey orders he comes to the last created fireplace
@@rainbow_ghost7779 Thats not true lol. He just wanders. You can watch him do it.
- "make everybody feel welcomed, lets say"
- Places dead human head and skull on sticks 😂
I copied 5his one ahha nice♡♡♡♡
canibals casualy opening the door and kicking my ass
Yeet them out with Molotov, oh wait not inside xD
You dont need to build full squares for the floor though, just need the outer frame (obviously) and then lines in one direction (opposite direction of what floor boards will be)
Until you get attacked and some bits get knocked out, it all falls apart like a card house ;p
@@04AMofficial Ah, didnt even think about the strength, i just like to build, i play on peaceful with building damage off XD
Ive never been more irritated building a roof like I am in this
Sadly there is no lock on the door, i had cannibals come through the door
Plant a stick in the ground infront of the door in the direction your trying to prevent visitors to come during an invasion or better yet dont build em outside where enemies can use em. Use a rope to get inside your base or build the lookout structure and then the Zipline gun to zipline into your base. Your brain is the limit to what you can build
