Paulee continues to work their way through their collection of interesting digital gear - this one you voted for and so we have the Yamaha RX-11 Classic Drum Machine - Yamaha's first digital drum machine and the first in the RX range. Some say its a classic, and it came around the time when everyone was trying to catch up with the LinnDrum.
With multiple outputs it was a workhorse - with Erasure choosing to use it in the studio and on stage.
Be sure to check out the Decent Sampler RX-11 Sample instrument if you are a Patreon Supporter.

Shoutout to @sonicstate for featuring this the day after I bought an RX11! Hasn't arrived yet, but I'm more excited now than ever!
What are the chances? 😄
My all-time favourite drum machine - and I used to have an 808. Just dusted my old RX-11 down a couple of weeks ago to put together a DAWless, old school synth pop rig.
erasure and new order used the rx11 on some recordings in the 80's
Depeche Mode too on Black Celebration
One of my first drum machines, and still my GOAT!... Just a solid machine that has lasted over 30 years in my brutal hands and its still going strong!
It’s my fave machine, I generally layer the kick with the low tom for oomph! It’s all over my Vogue Renege stuff 👌🏻
yeah that low tom seems to have more going on
One of my absolute all time favorites, sort of a poor man's Linn Drum. Multiple sounds for many instruments, tunable, individual outs, rock solid MIDI, full on 80s Yamaha flagship build quality. Unbelievably cheap on the second hand market too.
Yeah its very linn like and built to last
Just for the outro, it worths it.. Good, Paulee !
the outro sucks to me...
I had the RX21, and there was also an RX21L, which stood for Latin if I remember correctly. Lots of interesting stuff on that one, Cuicas and Claves, stuff like that...
The RX-11 is the drum machine you get when you give up trying to find a trapezoidal 3-pin power cord for your R-8.
Sept im not sure if this is better then the r8 or not ha but it'll do i guess.. lol
Sounds awesome!
Still the only sample based drum machine that I own.
Cool lines. I want moar!!
Sounds killer. Love that nastiness at the end.
i bought my yamaha rx-11 and a yamaha spx90 together for £1000 cash got quite the deal with cash at the end of the day in the shop... you wanna boost your sales figure for the day..... get your manager.
Wow a grand in cash 😎
@@magicalsynthadventure3216 yeh each were at £599
Nice! I have a soft spot for the RX range of drum machines > I even posed with the RX5 on my profile picture here on RUclips😅
The RX5 was definitely the cream of the crop, certainly worth the jump in price from so many other rx machines.
@@danielrobinson9679I loved the RX5. I think it’s truly underrated.
Same.
Bizarre Love Triangle
I wish i had one.
My unit has a problem : when I change the tempo, after some plays it returns to the first tempo setting... automatically... :(
Mine (well an it's little brother the RX15) would change temp on it's own too. Fader cleaner sorted it out - I also cleaned all the contacts for the buttons and stopped the double trigger issue I was having too.
@@anthonybatchelor5496 I cleaned the contacts but it didn't resolve the bug.
Аналоговые инструменты forever.

nice! Are you friends with Captain Pikant?
I keep thinking I owned one of these, but then I always realise mine was a CASIO something - at least, I think so. Very similar in appearance though. Mine had four slots for short user-loadable samples.
Casio RZ1 😊
@@magicalsynthadventure3216 Thank you! Yes, that was it.
What - no mention of the RX21L, Paulee? I used to have my RX21L taped in a tiered position above my RX11, just what was needed for all my Bossa-Nova-Related requirements... 😀
RX17 is the way to go, it's both the RX21 and RX21L in one machine. No idea why it has a lower number, pretty sure it came out after the 21/21L duo.
@@treennumbers yep looks like you're right - from what I can find, looks like the RX21L was maybe spring/summer of '86, and the RX17 was sometime in '87... 👍
oops, missed that one - sorry about that!
Thanks Paulee. I remember the RX-15 from my copy of the X-Perience demo tape from 1985.
Loved this!
Love Paule old school backline!!!!Thanks
Love the rainbow logo!
Viktor Tsoi...
Sorta-kinda horrific and sorta-kinda brilliant! It's not something that I would want to use; but it really does have character and looks like a lot of fun. There's definitely a lot of potential there, as ably demonstrated by Paulee The Mad Scientist.
Final jam was awsome!!
