I remember driving my bosses 505 on my first day of my new job, i was driving through Nairobi when i was rear ended by a lady driving a Hyundai excel, after my whiplash, i got out and walked to the rear, and saw the hyundai completely caved in and was dreading what to expect to see on the 505...long story short, my boss never discovered what his 505 had been involved in as i had managed to erase all evidence with a bit of boot polish on the rear bumper and it looked good as new. These cars are seriously tough!
Ha! My USA market 1981 505TD got rear ended by a Ford Escort. The 505 was parked in the street so I didn’t have to endure any injury. The 505 tailpipe got stuck in the escort’s face. Though a vaguely obscene scene, some minor muffler work and the 505 was fine. The escort was very badly damaged.
Yeah, this is the first foreign car that my family bought/ owned! Its design, i still love it, the dashboard was super cool back then, no regular car had that back then, the display was also really standing out in the night time. And dad is a pro driver, so you can imagine the amounts of fun i had in the back seat, enjoying our travels around the country with it.
Peugeot is super popular in latin américa. We love them. Simple, reliable, comfortable. Very happy to see them popular over there. And strange with right side wheel. Congrats for the video.
Tough as nails the 505. My late father owned the base GR model which rolled over 3 and a half times at 80 kmh on a dirt road and landed on its wheels with the roof still intact. Saved his life.
@@charliefm826 You'd have to ask the engineers at Peugeot. This model was for years officially the safest used car in Australia when it came to survival in real life crashes.Furthermore, the car still started when the wrecker drove it in and out each day !
Thank you for a vídeo about a magnificent dar, the 505. Here in Europe the 504 and the 505 were Famous, excellent vehicles. Acctually, in my extended Family there were 404s, 504s, and the 505s. Long lasting cars, highly comfy and safe, delievering great gas mileage. Assisted by a wide network of Dealerships, affording unexpensive post-warranty service, the Peugeot line kept the cars running in good shape until the cows came home. As they say in Vermont (USA). In the US, without a comprehensive Dealer-network, the brand was unable to provide a proper assistance. Same situation applied to the Famous, Advanced Citroen DS 21.Durable and highly sophisticated vehicles, years ahead of the competition. the Brand also lacked a network. And above all, the corner gas station, used to deal with Ramblers and Chevrolets, lacked the capacity and even the tools to service such advanced vehicles. The futuristic suspension, enabling the vehicle to run just on three wheels, in case of a flat tire, was far beyond the skills of a common mechanic. Thank you once again for your videos.
Still beautiful. The only thing I ever found odd was the gear knob which seemed put the wrong way. Normally the palm of the hand sits on the roundish part. Having said that it was a very comfortable car and fun to drive with its rear wheel drive.
I owned a 505 executive for 17 years and it gave me a lot of fun.It came with leather seats and a sun roof.Wish I still had it in my garage now. Also very comfotable.Greetings to you in Jakarta. Some years ago I lived near Plaza Senayan, anyway thanks for your video on this old Peugeot!
I worked at a Peugeot dealership in the 1980s. The 505 was really a nice car, but it's wasn't cheap and just about every competing car was a better value and/or better car. And when Japanese cars like Hondas and Toyotas starting getting better, then it was game over for Peugeot in the US
My father used to have this car, but the GR version with american style headlamp, my chilhood car, really want to have 505 again. Btw keep making a good videos broo
Paul Bracq was also the designer of the BMW Series 5 E12 (and most of the design of the E28 with minor modifications). In this era, the 505 models were a more affordable alternative to the BMW 518/520, with similar technical characteristics : RWD, 4 and 6 cylinder engines, but the 505 Turbo couldn't match the M5, tho.
Greetings from the USA! I love the 505, my best friends Mom had one when I was in high school and thought it was so posh and so cool and so very comfortable. I'd very much like to find one in decent shape and add to my garage. I thank you for your video and will subscribe and share with my car friends.
Great review. I've always wanted to drive one of those but they are rare in the US. There was a family at much church who used to buy those. Not many people did.
Hi my family are from Indonesia living in America since 1972. I located a Peugeot 505 turbo local for sale. I have to agree my old high school teacher had one and l remember the seats were then most comfortable I've sat in top. Lol. Anyway great job wth the video. My only hesitation is getting parts for this vechile in the States.
Hi Lee. Did you purchase that 505 turbo, and if not, is it still for sale? I'm in Michigan with a 504 coupe and have been searching for a 505T as a stablemate (specifically a post '85 model for the updated interior). Also, thanks for the video Eleazar!
Fun fact: The Peugeot 505 acted as a JDM Nissan Gloria police car in Power Rnagers in Space ep 13. They added rattle can painted oarts around the grill to mimic the Japanese car as well as raking off the windshield mirrors to add some sort of weird mirrors on the hood ruclips.net/video/DeKufa10rqg/видео.htmlm32s
I really enjoy seeing a 505 on youtube, i've got a 84 GRD. But you're pretty wrong about the "air conditioning" buttons, just saying.. And is a manual gearbox special? Like 80% of older cars are manual in europe. But still nice to see that you found a nice 505 to review 👍...and yes the seats are great - but nothing beats Saab seats 😍
I have the same crash story that his dad accept i was driving a 1988 Saab 900 i was backing up and hit a newer car in the front, that cars whole front tore off and my car had a scratch on the back bumper.
Weird? I'm not French so this isn't a patriotic thing but I have never heard anyone describe the DS and 2CV as anything other than revolutionary and game changing.
Don't agree with you about the design. The design was nearly perfect 80's fashion, and well proportioned and elegant. It was a big hit in europe at the time. It had everything, space, comfort, durability and good handling.
This car was so bad it finished off Peugeot in the USA. My dad had two in a row, I fully understand why it's forgotten but legend? Great video though, thanks for reminding me of the humiliation of everyone else's dad having a Ford Granada
had one '83 505 grd and one '86 505 gtd the gtd automatic crap transmission the grd manual slow but good allways the gtd fast but didn't last, transmission
I didn't hear the bell ding sounf of the key in ignition, I found out who makes that little ding ding key in the ignition ding device. OMRON 98620 2600 So now I can put one in my 504, and have the same sound as the 505 had. But you have to use a Chinese motorcycle led Flasher relay to make it work you can't hook constant to a 12v to it or it will cook it.

This presentation is reminiscent ofof Richard Hammond in his early days. Very good.
What an honour to be associated with legend in the automotive world 🙏 , thank you
This was a hugely underrated car that was very rewarding to own and drive , such a pity so few got to enjoy this gem
As a kid, my parents had an 84 505, and it was a stellar ride! I honestly wouldn't mind getting my hands on one today.

How does a car roll 3 and a half times but land on its wheels?

@@gregrobins5615 Charlie's right. If it rolled three and a half times it would land on its roof.
@@taunuslunatic404 How does 3 times sound then ? The roof kept its structure, with my point being, they were tough cars and literally saved lives.

My dad owned a 505 SR. R.I.P., dad.
As a kid i grew up with 404's and 504. Great auto's. 504 was magic on dirt roads
My dad had a 505 Sti 2 litre fuel injection. Was a lovely car in the mid 1980s here in South Africa. Thanks for review
I owned a STI...late 80's. Great motor car. Jhb South Africa

I bought a Peugeot 1983 505s after driving Cadillacs for 10 years. Loved it
I wish they were still sold in this country

I learned to drive a manual transmission in a 1978 Peugeot 504. Peugeot is very rare in the US. I’ve always wanted one. But, I can’t afford one.
Thanks for your video , I had one , it was great car Peugeot 505 stx
Its a beautiful car imo
An 80's special they sold these like hot cakes in the UK

Love this car. Nice video.
The most comfortable seat during that era is renault 18, peugeot number 2..
504 y 505 the best!!!
My 604 was more comfortable to drive but the 505 was a bit more fun and was very very stable on slippery roads. Yes a five speed.
Very complete car review. I like pg 505
Wrong man, that front styling is soo elegant and looks fresh 40 years on.
Weird? I'm not French so this isn't a patriotic thing but I have never heard anyone describe the DS and 2CV as anything other than revolutionary and game changing.
505 has the most comfortable driver's seat, bar none.
Mine didn't have that "angry" bonnet line, and was more boxy
I can't find a video on the 504. Thats a far more interesting car. You had it there, I hope you did a video on that as well.
Had a 505sti 1984 automatic and miss it
