Lots of screams and improvisations! It left me impacted! It really was Jon's phase where he was very bold vocally and Richie was the essential complement! The last time I can recall him doing the scream was on the "Crush" tour, early 2000-2001... and that was WAY after he'd already (blamed that 'scream') and changed his vocal style, on singing most of the songs, more nasally in technique than coming from deep down in his gut / throat (like how ALL of his vocal were as a younger Jon, from the very first album, 'til about Keep the Faith), so that he can preserve the vocal chords and 'possibly' not throw his voice during touring... so I totally understand it... for business purposes... but TRUST ME, he can still do it, and very rarely still does it (I've heard, up until even last year's tour... once or twice, depending on his mood/crowd... with of course... NO VIDEO to prove it). They're one of my favorite bands so it's not a critique... it's more of a WISHFUL THINKING, for this one classic ballad!
On my opinion, you're talkin' about 14 years ago, he can't do that scream, instead of, he would do it, and when you know Jon likes the high notes, when his fans scream for him, imagine he screaming, it's a raise in sellings, in tickets, everything that goes with it... That scream is actually harder that sing "Livin on a prayer" at his original key.
Wow, I think this is the earliest version of this song that I've heard. They sang it slower than in later versions, his voice seemed deeper at the beginning and there were a couple of differences in the lyrics. I saw over 20+ concerts at the Philadelphia spectrum. Back in the 70s it was the greatest place on earth to see a concert. Am not just saying that because I am Born in Philadelphia and lived there for my first 35 years. It's because it's a great place to experience alive Rock concert. If you sucked ohh you shouldn't have come to Philly cause I saw people throwing glass bottles at the bands. they really did suck and I was told by my mom and dad that back in the day. If Philadelphia love you then you had it made. I went to Aerosmith concert in 74 and the band that opened for them started to play. Train kelp rolling that's one of the best live songs that Aerosmith did back then. And this band was getting everything that wasn't nail down thrown at them. They said f you Philly and the people started throwing more shit. They ran off the stage I can't remember the name of the band. But later that same concert Aerosmith was starting to do train and someone from the upper deck through an 80 on stage. It blew up in Steven Tyler face and that was the end of the show. They came back a couple years later and this time Tyler was hit in the face with a bottle it hit the front of the stage and broke up and hit Steven Tyler face. They asked what was wrong with you people in Philadelphia we are never coming back here ever again. Like I said no place on earth like the spectrum of Philadelphia in the 70s. Saw the greatest rock band ever THE WHO 3 times at the spectrum. The greatest show place on earth.
