    Wayne you are always the best! I've been wanting to use the SY1000 for my Deepmind as well as my Hydrasynth but hadn't wanted to pore through the process yet. This is exactly what my world needed, so Thank you!!!!

      Thanks! I have was on the phone today with AltoMusic asking about the Hydrasynth, I cannot seem to find one in stock, but I checked it out at the NAMM show and it is one of the most exciting synths I have seen in a long time.

      I love my hydrasynth, i just wish I had more midi controllers that took advantage of its poly aftertouch.. omg the expressiveness of that module is amazing.

    MIDI mono mode should be used if going into an MPE synth. Then you can have the per-string dynamics and pitch bend.

  • @vicesquadpunk
    @vicesquadpunk 3 года назад +1

    I think MIDI mono mode is set up initially because most people would start by cabling it to a computer DAW not a physical synth 😊

    • @WayneJoness
      @WayneJoness  3 года назад

      Hm, well, I am not completely sure about that, there were a lot of physical synths when MIDI mono mode was introduced, and the DAW was not really fully developed. 'Digital Audio' on a personal computer was not really a thing in the early eighties.

      @@WayneJoness do you have an upload that uses midi mono?

    This is the best explanation I have seen on this. How well do the longer neck slides translate to the internal synth engine and Midi? More like a long pitch bend wheel, more like retriggering the sounds, or both?
    The envelope follower seems to track and translate to the sound. I guess muting the guitar string before it finishes sustaining will cause the midi note to be released also?
    This is the closest thing that I can find to a dynamic, realistic sounding guitar controller for synths. Just trying to confirm before buying.

    Thanks for this video, this is exactly what I need, I already have the graphtech floyd rose ghost saddle pickups, I just need to get the routing on my guitar done and buy an sy1000. But I would like to also use vsts from my PC.

    Awesome video and instruction! Could you do another one with the SY-1000 controlling the DeepMind12 and no talking?

    Hi Wayne, how is the tracking quality (latency, stability, responsiveness) compared to Fishman Triple Play ? Also, is there any monophonic MIDI out option from the audio input jack (like Boss GT or Sonuus G2M) ?
    I'm very impressed on how it handles bends in poly mode (chromatic off), very clever and very innovative ! Also, chromatic type 1 is a 'pitchbend autotune' I guess.
    Thanks so much Wayne, this is the video I've been waiting for since SY-1000 came out !

  • @MemphianSounds

    This explanation is great but I cannot get the same quality tracking. I try to finger pick using it and the gaps in tracking and sustain are incredibly frustrating

    • @WayneJoness
      @WayneJoness  Год назад

      Pitch to MIDI is always challenging. You have to play to the sound, and sometimes there may be issues with the guitar you are using.

    I see you are using the Washburn JB100. I would like to find one. But I am getting a Godin xtSA because I can't find a Washburn, and since I live here in Hawaii and get free shipping from my rPro rep, this seems like the best way to go. It is also a Koa wood top and you know, I live where the Koa wood grows. What I really want to know, and I think your video might show this. the Boss SY-1000 works with guitars that have built in 13 pin plugs as well as it does with the Roland GK3 pickup. Maybe better?

    How is the tracking on the sy1000? Is the boss gp10 with primova midx20 a better option? Thank you..big fan of your videos :)

    • @WayneJoness
      @WayneJoness  3 года назад +2

      The modeling tracking is fantastic on both. For MIDI I think the SY-1000 has a bit of an advantage as it has MIDI in/outs so you do not need an additional unit.

    I saw in one of your replies that the GR 300 simulation needs the GK pickup. So no go on the Washburn or the Godin?

    • @WayneJoness
      @WayneJoness  4 года назад +1

      The Washburn and has a GK-2A and the Godin has the RMC pickup system with the 13-pin output, so both will work just fine.

    For bass tracking: Worth upgrading from a Gr55?
    Would love to see a compare and contrast.

    Thanks! Can you pls explain how to setup boss sy-1000 midi out for piano plugin? I tried many different settings but I can’t kill ghost notes... I had a gr-55, was good piano sound and there was no ghost notes

    • @WayneJoness
      @WayneJoness  3 года назад

      The piano sound in the gr-55 is integrated into the synth, in the case of the SY-1000 you are going to using MIDI as you noted. This is really going to be a matter of working with the MIDI and sensitivity settings of the SY-1000. You should be able toget something pretty close. I would try reducing the overall sensitivity if you are getting a lot of ghost notes.

    Is it possible to play VST instruments without using the GK?

    • @WayneJoness
      @WayneJoness  2 года назад +1

      At this time the best guitar to MIDI conversion I have seen still requires some kind of divided pickup like the GK-3.

      The GR-300 requires the GK pickup, but overall it seems to be the best GR-300 emulation ever.
