Dear Mr. Gupta, a very good analysis. And, it is refreshing to see that you sound optimistic for the Modi 2.0, despite your subtle political skepticism. 🙂 I allowed myself to make the last comment since you once said that journalists too have political leanings. I have been a follower of your work and could not resist saying that It is an important attempt you are making, since watching anchors behaving like philosophers has only deteriorated the level of media and journalism in India. Of course, you have delivered fine analyses including defense, which is your speciality, I hope you also cover infrastructure and esp employment schemes in rural areas a bit more closely, since it remains a sticking point in Indian economy, that also seems a focus area of Modi govt. Also, if you could provide constructive feedback and even council on/ for Modi admin, like you tried for Congress on alliance formation during the last elections, it would be very cool. Modi is tech savvy, I am hopeful he will listen to good words from professionals like you. Last but not the least, I still watch your interview with Mr. P V Narsimha Rao from time to time, and love it! Thank you very much! Regards, Manish

There is a reason for a separate ministry for steel. India if it ever hopes to be a developed nation should ramp up the capacity of steel. China's steel capacity is 10 times that of India.
The first heavy industry for any major country that achieved development was to have a mega steel company that propelled the economy through infrastructure. US steel, Nippon steel, POSCO - you name it.
Without steel there is no infrastructure, without infrastructure there is no manufacturing.
So that is the difference between steel and other metals.

A very good analysis in all spheres but when you said "why there's not aluminium ministry, steel is just commodity."
It seems you don't have any knowledge about importance of steel.
For your information steel is the base metal used in infrastructure as well as manufacturing on which the whole economy runs.

Shekhar Sir Ji: Great analysis. I am a big fan of your Cut the Clutter. Have you provided the analysis of condition of common low income Indian, say a rickshaw puller of Kolkata, a fisherman of Mumbai, a chaiwala thela in Delhi or a construction laborer ? Also, I would love to see your analysis of (i) secularism and (ii) definition of employment (will a pakora seller be called employed or unemployed).

According to you if Steel is a commodity and does not need a Ministry, then could you please explain how Petroleum isn't termed as a commodity. If yes, then why would Petroleum need its own Ministry as well?

I wish there was a ministry for Swatch Bharat. That initiative was fantastic and the masses loved it coz it improves quality of life. Also gains political brownie points for the party. Unfortunately the initiative has lost political patronage.

What we need is police reforms which isn't coming from any political party. It's high time that our police force is made people friendly rather than power friendly.

Please consider doing a seprt one on the effect that Arun Jaitley's absense would have.
Is Nirmala been bought in to keep his seat warm? Modi really cannot do w/o AJ's counsel. He was a crisis manager par excellence, super communicator. Pray he recovers from his illness.
