Making a Stool from Recycled Plastic

- This was actually the first ever attempt we had at making a sheet of recycled plastic. We melted 2.2kg of HDPE, which was more than our little panini press could hold, so we'd melt the plastic on the press, and then once melted, keep it warm in a small toaster oven while we continued melting the rest.
Once we had enough, we gave it a few twists and folds to remove any air bubbles and then chucked it in our DIY bottle jack press, to give us a lovely flat sheet of marbled goodness.
After we'd processed the sheet in our Triton thicknesser, and gave it a once over with a card scraper, we knocked up a simple wooden base and attached the whole thing together.
This was three years ago and the stool is still going strong in our workshop! What do you think?

Man, I remember when they uploaded this video. I was obsessed with HDPE recycling at the time, and it was super exciting to see another RUclips channel get into it. These bros have really come a long way with this!
Cool!
I hope y’all are wearing ventilation masks for safety, because your work is phenomenal and you deserve healthy lungs!❤❤❤
I was just going to say that too.
Absolutely stunning! What happens with the leftover shavings? I have so much respect for what you do in order to recycle plastic! Sad that the same ones who could be doing something like this and doing things differently than they do just don't care about our planet! This is amazing!
They go back into the bucket of chips to be used again.
You DO understand why this ISN'T common practice... You DO know that plastic degrades with each melt. So it's unreliable. You can add a little bit of used plastic added into each batch but 90% plus has to be NEW plastic. He's making random junk that doesn't have much purpose. It doesn't matter if his stool cracks. But often plastic makes some serious components that they can't risk failing. The best use for plastic bottles is to wash sterilise and refill like they did with glass bottles. But that would need a small redesign of the bottles.
@@cececox6399I think they did a video on this and got a lot more uses than expected
@@cececox6399I've heard that, but there was another plastic recycler/crafter that put it to the test. He'd inject the plastic into a mold, shred it, melt it, mold it then do it again. He had repeated it thirty times and still didn't get a noticable drop in quality.
I bet that stuff would make a killer electric guitar body!
Watching these never gets old!❤ I love what you do with the plastic left overs.❤
I love this channel, because the majority of it it’s just recycling plastic
Very good! I feel you could have made the other parts of the stool out of recycled plastic too, though.
We have done in other videos 🤙🏼 this was just our first try with sheets so we were mainly focusing on that part
Yep, looks like a good use for scrap. I need one in my truck.
Beeeeeautiful!!💕😍💗
This mix of color looks so organic!
Do you understand the meaning of organic?
@@TacticalDrawsне органика, а органично. Это разные понятия.
Lol, nope
Think about how strong this stuff is . Built to last
You never disappoint✅💙😀
I want to hug people like you ❤❤❤
🫂
Best recycle video ever
AWESOME!!! Wow, i would for sure buy a chair like that. Turned out beautiful ❤
Imagine all the micro plastics you inhaled
Cool nice project mga Idol🎉😊
Wow imagine what their house looks like!
Kinda like if you wanted a little Van Halen inspired man cave these would be great to have!
Genuinely curious, how in the why does the hot plastic not get all sticky & gummed to the wood in the press??
Why do you twist the material?? Is it just to mix the color..??
Probably
It's because they remove air bubbles between the material, they said in a video
I think they said in one video that its also to get rid of possible air bubbles but
Not that sure, because air won't be able to stay inside plastic after that pressing anyway
How bad does the plastic smell when you heat it
It smells like potential cancer 😊
I love this channel so much!
Thank you for a video without music 🎉❤
At least my instincts are sound. I was thinking, "this doesn't look edible." Apparently, I was correct.
Your house must smell crazy 😂. All jokes aside that is so cool and genuinely useful.
This is EPIC!!!
That’s genius!
Hermoso !!!
Fumes?
Yeah probably
Go to their FAQ to find the answer to that one.
The plastic is not burned, only softened.
Красота то какая ❤❤
My mom just passed away. She was a crafter and saver... you've inspired me to take her crafty keeps and make something to remember her by.
Question does the plastic cause a lasting smell in the oven/ toaster oven/microwave?
Should I buy an old one just for project?
I don’t know about the smell or the process, but buying an old appliance seems like a safer option. There’s no guarantee that your first attempt will go as planned and getting plastic all over something you’ll regularly use with food could be pretty dangerous for your health.
Where do you guys get all this plastic from? Is it like a community recycling drop-box, or is it just your own personal recycling?
Задница прямо чуствует тепло расплавленных бутылок и пробок 😂😂
That was beautiful. Wow 👏
Nice job 👏
WOW awesome job
This is so awesome 🎉
I have a suggestion for you make a hard plastic office desk board you can copy a silicone repairing met in middle make a working station on sides paper holder pen holder card holder and other office things
Make thick 12x12 or bigger floor tiles
Genial 😮💪
I like your job ❤
Awesome job if i had the tools you have id be able to do that ❤
Magnifique. 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Yay for microplastics!
You're kind of missing the point, literally most plastics ever created don't get recycled and they all degrade into micro plastics. It's all the same in the end.
@@floptimus microplastics in the landfill >> microplastics in my workshop
Amazing❤❤❤
Broo you gotta drop a video on how you do this step by step cause if more people knew this we could eliminate a lot of plastic waste..
The full video is linked below! 🤙🏼
We want more videos showing how these things work Especially machines
Crei que era un pedazo de carne 😮😮😮😮
Muy bonito vanquito
Interlocking bricks, please!
Voll geil!🎉
Nur leider werden diese recycling sacgen immer viel zu teuer verkauft,da kann mann sich auch gleich einen designerstuhl kaufen😅
I really like your hydraulic press. Did you made it?
🎉❤🎉
Отлично
oo that kind of stool
Ooh pulchritudinous.
Omg 🥰🥰🥰🥰♥️
Can I self you my plastic bottle lids?! ❤❤❤
Towards the end of the video, you can see a face above the bolt on the left side
😮😮😮😮😍😍😍😍😍
wow!. what globes are that?
Those colours look very raw meat like.
Birdy
❤
Fuck resin. This is a whole new level.
How about claw clips to hold hair up? ^^
You forget to add the salt and pepper, baked plastics tastier with it
I tried to recycle hdpe once, i can totally smell this video 😂
Then you did it wrong
@@BrothersMake I mean I did it correctly afaik, but that sweet chemical smell when it's heating up in the oven is forever stuck in my brain
how they do that without vacuum apparatus to rid of the air bubbles is beyond me
Can't u use the complete bottle?
Вопрос одинаковой температуры плавления вторичного пластика.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍❤
Love these ideas. Stop filling Earth with our crap
You could make skate boards
find the face in the design 😎
We've had a few people say that but I've never seen it! 😅
Oh, cool -- I think I see it: is it a bald person looking towards the lower right corner in the last shot before someone sits upon it?
Very cool looking
I imagine this is similar to the way countertops made to look like imitation granite are made
A list of costs would be informative
I'm certain it's prohibitive to making a profit, or there would be more such activity
Great, though, for a hobbyist or someone who seeks to sell a political viewpoint
I'm starting to wonder: Do they work with open windows? 😅
What’s that skin colour paper sheet name?
It’s funny, for made something from recycled plastic you have to buy brand new plastic 😂
cuanta energia eléctrica gastaron para hacer esa pelotudez, y creer que están haciendo un aporte a la naturaleza.
Renewable energy 👍🏽
How about the fumes
I want to buy a blank to make a guitar out of. That possible?
Kann man die als Bodenplatten bestellen 🤔
weird that the word "stool" is automatically converted to its more scientifical meaning in my mind and I cannot help laughing...
a nice press though...
Could you do one with plastic legs?
They have done elsewhere.
imagine if they molded the fucking screws directly into the plastic ;)
Look into the cancer rate correlation with burning plastic.
We’ve never burnt plastic
Das ist gut für Umwelt 😊
I want to make a knife handle out of it
Poison
Why u dont create plastic legs?)))))))0)
Жопа отмёрзнет, простатит захренеет.😊
Is that a microwave?
I think not, microwave heats only what contains water, and it's imposible to heat something that high. Seek through regular videos (not shorts) they had mentioned somewhere right temperature
Looks more like a toaster oven.
Bisfonela
No, you made only the seat part.
FAIL
Plastimarble
Please do not breathe this mess in 🥺
