A fine little army, faultless drill and very very smart. I was barracked next to the "Malta Fortress" Squadron of the Royal Malta Engineers in Cyprus all hard working blokes and very smart too. (Before Malta's independence (and nasty Mr Mnitoff). But it seems they have retained the British Army style in all ways!
When an enthusiast 38 years old Dominic Mintoff came to England to expose his plans for Malta's annexation to Great Britain, was received by the Ministry of Agricolture. Please don't blame Mr Mintoff for Malta's Indipendence, British Governement made his very best do discourage any integration. What a stupid arrogance. to be honest i would gladly accept Malta into the UK, although having never been from what i have heard they are very lovely people and would very much fit in with the rest of the UK. Sadly due to Brexit and the fact they have survived well on their own so far such a thing would be very unlikely
In 1942 - during those terrible days of the siege - Malta received the George's Cross “to bear witness to a heroism and devotion that will long be famous in history”. A few years later the very same “People of Malta” was blatantly pushed around by the British Government: heroism was no longer necessary. It was an important lesson for Maltese People who have made their own path from that moment on. I understand your embarassment, Mr.Northern Range, but you shouldn't interpret my call to a shamefull page of History as a way to restate expectations that would be unrealistic nowadays. Malta is a modern and dynamic nation, very well set up in the European Union, in the Mediterranean Area and in the Commonwealth. I assure you that Malta doesn't even think of becoming part of the United Kingdom anymore. And - to be sincere - this perpective wouldn't even seem very attractive... I just find unfair if someone hipocritically attributes to Mr. Mintoff the reponsibility of a decision which was of others.
Excellent parade! Beautiful to watch. Well done to all servicemen.
