Don't use Launchers just for accessing side loaded apps. They don't always work, as mentioned in comments already by many. Instead use Tv Repo app, this allows to create shortcuts for any app you have installed. Later bring those shortcuts to ur main screen.

I don't know for others but my mi box internet always turned into "Connceted but no internet access' after several half an hours which always screwed my youtube or spotify bcs i need to disconnect and connect the wifi. Its annoying

If you're willing to delete everything on the harddrive to get it working, then try reformatting it using a pc

8gb should be more than enough to install them. The APK apps files are very small.
