Hi Mike, have your reviewed any Ben Howard songs? I don't see any on your channel. Maybe you could start with his live "In Dreams" Solo Session performance or Small Things Solo Session or End of The Affair live :)
I like that they didnt try to find a Chester Bennington clone, but instead went for a talented female singer with her own sound. That said, there is no chance, that I will get as excited about this iteration of the band as I was about the original Linkin Park.
I think they sound pretty decent together so I hope they keep her. There's a fair bit of criticism around her as a person, so I do think there's a chance they'll walk it back (if the backlash doesn't stop)
@_WeDontKnow_ The backlash is from neckbeard incels who hate women. They can't adapt to change so they dug up what they think is dirt and have done zero actual research on the facts around their buzzwords. So let's address it. Scientology. She was BORN into the scientologist cult, her parents were already members, she grew up inside it. She is a queer person, who has written about her own struggles with being LGBTQ, suicidal thoughts and mental health. She is as far away from following the beliefs of scientology as an atheist is from god. The problem is she cannot publicly say "I am not a scientologist anymore" because the cult itself is f^^king mental and do not hesitate to harm people in some way shape or form who do that. The second controversay is Danny Masterson, who was a friend of hers most likely during her time at various scientology functions (again, her parents are high up and you kinda don't just "leave"). She knew him only as her friend, he asked her to attend the first hearing and she probably assumed he was innocent. She did not attend any further hearings nor defend him after the evidence came out. Apparently waiting for evidence to condemn someone is bad now. That's all they got.
This isnt the original key of the song, it sounds like they have tuned it up to make it easier for her to sing as it was originally a male vocal. I noticed it on all their new versions from that set. The band is probably not used to it.
The user suggested the most poorly performed song of the set sadly. I thought the rest of the performance sounded far less... "off". Sadly that is the case on such a great song
and now we have Crawling live in brasil nov 15 version, with pro shot, which is emilys best "crawling" perfromance IMO. oh and also mix was bad on this stream and it has been mixed better and reuploaded couple weeks ago
The person who picked this song likely did so because they hate the vocalist. This was her first song and she was visibly nervous and emotional until about halfway through the set. She slayed though
Yeah, even Chester himself struggled with Crawling live post 2008-ish. By 2011 he basically skipped most of the harsh vocals in the song and then later they started performing it as a piano ballad. If they keep it on the set list at all post this tour, I imagine they'll do something similar (like they've done to Lost, as well).
I've seen Emily live with her band Dead Sara and she is a much better vocalist than what is being shown here. While she is capable of screaming some big notes, she actually does have a lovely voice. Most of her vocals in Dead Sara do not involve screaming tones, so to me this seems strained in trying to be Chester. I'm a big Dead Sara fan, not a fan of Linkin Park at all, so this is a sad marriage for me. However, Dead Sara hasn't hit it big and there is definitely a monetary opportunity for her.
This was not a super impressive performance from anyone involved. It just felt really meandering especially in the verses. I'm all for crowd singing but not so much at an event introducing a new singer. I did like her giant legged pants though, really took me back to 1998.
It felt empty and hollow vs the normal full sound they have. The energy in the verse collapsed. Usually the energy comes down in the verse but still holds. I sort of say the mixing was bad or they are just rusty since it’s been a long time since they played a big live show. Hoping it gets tighter with more practice.
The video you are watching is a portion from the full Live show. The mix was not very good on that video feed/stream. They have since released a couple videos of individual songs that have a much better mix and in 4k. I am guessing they will do this for all the songs, not sure.
Not sure how much you know about this return of Linkin Park but there is a Zane Lowe interview with the new era Linkin Park members. It sounds like they have dabbled in creating music with a few sessions in 2019 but then took a long break during all the shut downs. Seems like they only started to make it an official comeback about a year ago. So while their new material had been worked on and Emily was part of that process, she and the new drummer had to learn all the older songs and try to figure out how to do them justice without changing them much. Think I heard someone say they changed the original key of at least some of the older songs so she could manage them better. All that to say, I think she has only rehearsed them for about 8 months so I am going to give her a lot of grace when it comes to the older stuff. She sounds much more comfortable and natural on their new song, which was the first song of this Live and their first single of the new album.
Timid is a kind assessment. Sounds to me like she blew out the mic with the scream vocals on the chorus and had a hard time hearing herself sing the clean vocals on the verses. For those who know the original recording, you'll notice Mike Shinoda's rap vocals aren't as loud or harsh in this performance. That's on purpose to avoid blowing out the mic. With this music, you have to manage the dynamic range. Or you make hell for the soundman. No faster way to mess up a live gig than making life hard for your soundman.
Sure wish you opened to Emptiness Machine, the new song they opened with and introduced us to Emily. Gave me chills watching it. Crawling was the least representative song of the whole set in my opinion. I thought he sounded fantastic, close enough to Chester to do their old music justice but far enough from him to not just be a cheap rip off. Hopefully you will check out something else from the live stream to listen too, like maybe Emptiness Machine… 🤞😃 Love what you do man!!!
I would call the vocals just ok to weak. And honestly, the crowd noise sounds fake to me, like you can only hear 12 people singing....maybe its a mic issue, but i dont foresee going toba concert based on this performance. Have to see in the future maybe she just needs more time to get settled in
Wow. Immediately after watching this, i saw a short about the new lead singer. It was from JD delay i wont get into what it said, but i 10 toes down wont be catching a show with her as lead singer now.

@nickandrews2255 hey man thanks for taking the time to reply I'm not trying to trash her I really legitimately hoped she would do well live but it's just too different for me at the moment. That being said the los Angeles show seemed better but in the end I am content on reminiscing with the og recordings at the moment cheers.

Phil Collins and Dave Grohl stepping out from behind the drum kit in support of iconic frontmen to become frontmen in their own right. The rest of the band is on board with Emily following Chester. I'm willing to wait until I hear an album full of new material before I pass judgement. Emily's not Chester. No one is Chester. No one ever will be. It is nice to get a new singer and move on. However, let's be honest, the new singer lacks the power on the voice to sing many of the songs. The sound lacks thickness
As someone below said, it was not the guitarist who messed up, it's the bass player. They transposed this to a different key - I bet muscle memory let him down after 25 years of playing it differently.
