Very well put! I'd like to add that I like how the series shows children just playing and innovating stuff that they could play with or exploring their local neighborhood. Most cartoons depict child characters as some kind of heroes who have to defeat some villain. They give really restless feeling instead of Moomins calmness
@@FrostDrive I literally grew up with Moomi. It is kinda huge thing in Finland, in our low key way. I am sure almost any household owns a couple of Moomi mugs - I got spoons, but that was easier to bring cause I live in France. I needed to point out that I suspect those notably high energy videos may not go down so well for us Finns - at least I am more or less absolutely going to skip a tube channel if the tuber behaves so energetic it almost hurts the ears and looks like some short of act aka fake. It is impossible to believe it you know, that a person is happy and peppy all the time every day. And people and their voice is generally far more pleasant to listen to when they are not borderline shouting - or impossibly loving everything. English language though - it has the habit of over using the word 'love' when people mean that they just like something. But for example - a Finn will not generally use this word unless he or she really means it. Which there for also mounts to rather rarely even with those people they do indeed love - mostly cause deeds speak more than words. That said, it is pleasant that Moomi can be found on tube, because those old time - child hood memories - aren't exactly re-running on French TV for me. Not that I even watch tv - did not generally do that in Finland either - before I moved here. Something to do with certain modern reality TV series being repeated consistently on all the different channels as re-runs. Talk about difference in value of a re-run - lol. I'd say it is a real children's series in comparison to many of those things that leak into my eyes despite being pretty selective as to what media I bother to watch.
No but theres this short story that we read in high school (I'm finnish) by Tove from Fillyfjonk's point of view and I was horrified to find myself actually understanding and sympathysing with her
Almost everything in Moomins is a metaphor for something in real life. There are underlying themes of social commentary, abuse, abandonment, loneliness, depression, anarchy, love and sexuality. Something you do not see on the first glance. But it is so ingeniously written as metaphors into what at first seems like a light hearted adventure story that I cannot but admire it. It goes well for kids as that but when you really dig deeper it truly will just get deeper and deeper. Especially if you are familiar with the life of the writer herself. When you know that the names of Thingumy and Bob (ridiculous translation, yes) are really originally in Swedish Tofslan and Vifslan. Pet names the writer of the series Tove Jansson and her girlfriend gave each other. At the time in 1950's when same sex relations were still illegal in Finland. How they are hiding from the law, guarding a secret they cannot expose (the king ruby, metaphor of their love for each other) because it would be forcefully taken from them by others. And ultimately how they only want to enjoy what they have and be accepted. How the Groke, metaphor for loneliness and depression (killing everything beautiful around her but still looking for something that would make her whole) is tailing them for that love but actually any love (like the shell) will make her better. When you get all those metaphors you will get those episodes. Children wont get all that but they still get moral of the stories. And that is why Moomins are so fucking awesome and ingeniously written. Movies like Toy Story try to insert stuff and jokes for adults but those things are absolute amateurs compared to Tove Jansson.
Oh my goodness 😳 I never thought about it that way. This honestly makes everything a hundred times better and Moomin in my mind was already one of the greatest cartoons I've ever watched.
@@_riippuu There is a great movie about the life of Tove Jansson that came out last year called "Tove". If you can find it somewhere with English subs I do highly recommend it.
@@Aquelll Mää puhun suomea 😅 well, this is awkward.. Mää näin mainoksia siitä leffasta mutta en sitten ikinä vaan saanu mahollisuutta kattoo sitä kun sitä ei oo tullu missään vastaan. Pitää ettii se jostaki 🤔 wait... I just now realized you might not even speak Finnish 💀 itken
I completely agree, except for the bit about Toy Story. I consider Toy Story one of the few animated American movies that I think touch on deeper themes that also apply to adults. Sure, it has all the jokes and bells and whistles pertinent to the genre, but the drama at the heart of it feels more genuine to me: jealousy, loss, fear of change, etc. It's not typical surface level Disney moralism or flashy, but kinda hollow entertainment like Shrek. At least that's my take on it. The Moomins are still an absolute classic though and not a lot of other cartoons can be compared to them!
"LET'S FILL MOOMIN VALLEY WITH CRIME! COME ON!" It's arguably the best episode. I think it also comes with the bit where Little My asks to date Snufkin and he just falls off the bridge and hides in the water.
@@chrissy9997 You look that scene completely different way when you realize Snufkin and Little My are actually half siblings (they have same mother) - they never explain that in a cartoon, but in books yes. 😂
@@chrissy9997 In the Finnish version he says "let's make Moominvalley into the nest of crime" and he says it in a very sinister way, I think it makes it even more hilarious😄
There is actually an episode where some park guard had kids locked up in an area where the kids are not allowed to do anything. The area is also full of rules. It's quite a funny scene when they break out actually. Not something you would see in todays kids cartoons for sure.
I'm a Finnish person, and I grew up watching Adventures of Moominvalley/Tales from Moominvalley/Muumilaakson tarinoita - and your video makes me emotional. Your praising words and just the soundtrack in the back round brings tears to my eyes. I'm so happy that you have found Moomins and love it so much. For Finns Moomins are national treasure, every kid born after mid 70's have watched the show. The adventures, characters, things you can learn, the MUSIC is all love. There is no other place like Moominvalley. ❤
One thing I love about the Moomins, apart from the whimsical, cozy atmosphere, is how all the characters have quirks and flaws and everyone love them no matter what, and take them as they are without trying to change them.. it’s just so comforting💕
This show is basically every Finnish 90's/early 2000's kid's childhood. This show actually has 104 episodes in total, with the first 78 of them being something of a 'season 1', and the last episodes (to 104) being something of a 'season 2'. But as far as I know only the first 78 episodes have been dubbed to English. Also, this show was mainly made by the Japanese, and the original dub is in Japanese, so therefore it's totally valid to call this show an anime.
Not actually. This is the full series. Because, in fact, that what we here in Finland know as second season of adventures from Moomin valley, is actually a totally different series out side of Finland.
@@MohinderPictures409 Yes, it's not called season 2 in Japan, but it might as well be. It's a sequel in the same animation style. And in case someone's feeling like they're missing out on more Moomin episodes, don't worry, the sequel is mostly hot garbage compared to the original. It's not based on the books or anything.
This cartoon was basically my childhood(as it was for a lot of Finns and still probably is) it might be nostalgia talking, but this show is just comforting and homey to me,it's somehow entertaining and calming at the same time.
@@torturequeen1640 I refuse to refer to it as anything other than ”it”. .....I hate to admit that to this day Mörkö is the one thing from my childhood that STILL scares me.
I 100% agree with everything you said in this video. As a Finnish person who grew up watching this Moomin cartoon, this video brought me strong sense of nostalgia. Even though you didn't talk about it, thanks for using the outstanding soundtrack of 90s Moomins as background music in this video.
Looking back at Finnish cartoons in general from the 90's i realized that shows back then didn't see kids "simpletons", like Moomin all other shows like Rölli, Hermannipelle, Ransu etc.. they all had deeper stuff in them like teaching morals and how to be a better person in general. Sucks that they don't make stuff like this anymore, but then again i find it hard to see a Rölli episode like the one where he gets wasted after drinking a Jack Daniels made today :D
The best thing about Moomins is, that you can watch them as a kid and get so many different feelings from it, and you can also watch it later as an adult and realize how deep some episodes also are and how different characters represent different things and real life issues, even more if you read books. And many characters are actually based on real people from life of an author Tove Jansson. (This comes from a Finnish person, who has loved Moomins since age of 2.)
I like to say something about that last part you were talking about. About getting the original books. I recommend it wholeheartedly to read them. There perfect for a lazy sunny afternoon. Feeling the comforts the sun, and noises of the neighborhood kids playing somewhere. Very relaxing...
2:48 This scene was so much better in the Danish version. I get Snufkin’s excitement about embracing the storm, but not only is his voice more relaxed and soothing in Danish, but in this particular scene he is more so about how soothing it is to just take it all in.
As a Finn who got to witness and live this show's initial airing in early 90s, I find this current trend truly fascinating - a new audience for this amazing show is blooming 30 years after its original airing. Moomin has always been big in Europe and Asia, but seemed to lack attention (and marketing) in America. Moomins and most notably this show has always been there for me, it is easily the most beloved children's show ever in Finland and when it comes to Moomins and their legacy, nothing comes close. I'm happy that you and plenty of other people, based on recent RUclips content that my algoritm pushes forward constantly, have finally been given the chance to witness this true gem. Tove Jansson - the original author - brought to life one of the most magical and unique worlds that speaks to everyone. This show is also an exceptional adaption of its source material - lightning in a bottle. I wholeheartedly recommend looking up the original books and the comic strip. Tove is easily among the best artists and authors Finland ever got.
Finn here, the moomins, and the 90's moomins in particular have become very important to all children here. Everyone's seen them, and cherishes them in their own way. Good to see everyone else is seeing it now as well. (even if im not a fan of your english dub)
As Finn, I did grow up with Moomins. Books, toys, movies, comics and all the rest. One aspect that I really love in this 90s show is the audio, specifically the music and use of it. How they use music to make feel things stronger. Like the Groke scenes, I still get that same level of dread I did as small kid when ever I hear that music...
I adore this franchise with all my heart and soul, and I’m so glad to know that you enjoyed the cartoon. I’d really, really love to see you talk about the books, whether it’s individually or all at once. The 90s show, comics, books, and 2019 show (which you should absolutely watch) are all so different, even when covering the same materiel, but there’s something just so....”Moomin” about them all that really makes you feel at home. It’s a really special franchise, and I can’t wait for you to see even more of it.
Yeah checking out more moomins series like the comics and 2019 version, and then making vids on them would be so cool! At some point I wanna make a whole video about the very last episode of the 90's moomins. Thank you enharmonics!
I also got sad when the last episode came out, even though i have watched the entire series, before that. Hopefully the next season of the 2019's show comes out soon Great video :) I simply can't get enough of these kinds of videos about Moominvalley
omg yeah, when I was watching the last episode, I did'nt even realize it was the last episode. I have so many thoughts about it. Definitely gonna do a whole video on it. I'm gonna check out that 2019 version too! Thanks for the comment gandalf! Appreciate it 👊
Did you know there is a season 2 of Moominvalley that only ever aired in Japan? Same art style, same vibe and everything. It's largely considered lost media though because it was apparently never released on VHS or DVD either and the owner of series is super strict about episodes posted online? Iv'e tried looking them up before and the closest I've gotten is to an obscure cartoon website that lists the synopsis of every single season 2 episode(even screenshots), but when you click on it, the page no longer exists...for that reason alot of fans are crossing their fingers that the moomin official channel(or the Japanese sister channel that suspiciously has no videos yet😉)will begin uploading season 2 some time soon.
@@meiu7652 I don't know about the japanese dub for season 2 but the season as a whole is definitely not lost at all or unreleased, it was redubbed in finnish just a few years ago (so we have two official dubs now with the original being the superior one) and the DVDs are all over the place here. I'd imagine they're also common in at least Sweden with their dub. Perhaps they might have fan subs somewhere with one of our dubs? You can try googling "Muumilaakson tarinoita" which is the official Finnish title if you're curious, the finnish wikipedia has its own page for episode listings. :)
I started to watch 90's Moomin when life didn't really work out for me. It was better than a therapy. It reminded me of things I thought I forgot, so watch it, everyone! ^^
This cartoon captured the reality of real life how it's boring and kinda sucks. That's why this cartoon is amazing. I'm sold!!! But when I used to see this cartoon when I was younger it would make me unsettled and I don't know why. I guess because it's escapism for a different reason you're escaping back to reality lol.
The most prevalent feeling I had when I started watching was nostalgia. Here’s this franchise from a different continent that I’ve certainly never seen before, but it gave me such a refreshing sense of nostalgia
Moomin is basically the Animal Crossing series but as a show/novel that is super chill. I love it so much and it was my favorite thing to binge during 2019. So glad that the official Moomin Valley channel has uploaded all the 90s anime, as even I wasn't able to find every single episode via the fanbase.
I love this cartoon so much. Some of my earliest (and happiest) memories are of me watching the episodes together with my parents as a small child. I live in Germany and despite my dad being from Finland I (sadly) can't speak finnish. And even tough I didn't understand anything spoken I could understand most plots. That just goes to show what an amzing cartoon it is. Thank you for showing up on my YT, gonna watch Mumin now
Sometimes Snufkin sounds like a warm cup of mint tea with honey and sometimes like strawberry ice cream with caramel topping on a nice hot day. H e l p i l o v e h i m
I knew the guy who wrote and sang the original moomin opening theme. Great guy. Gave me his daughters old bike for free when I was a kid. He lived in Espoo in Finland in my grandmothers neighborhood.
I watched Moomin when I was a kid and was reminded of it a couple years ago. I went to go find it and it happened to be in the middle of the official Moomin channel uploading the episodes! It really recaptured me in such a safe, nostalgic feeling. It's my go-to comfort show now especially when I'm struggling with my anxiety. Some people may consider it "boring", but I see it as "low stakes". There's not too much to worry about, you know it's gonna be okay, and you feel reassured. Idk, rediscovering this show is kinda everything to me lol. Thank you for this video!!
I got into Moomins in 2019 when I was at my most stressed for school. It really helped me calm down and relax. There used to be a google drive of all the Episodes that I followed but it was removed. I was so happy when Moonvalley youtube started to upload the ‘90’s episodes for free. I’ve also had my own Moomin group chat on tumblr and we don’t talk much on it, but I always feel a warm welcomeness. This fandom is so nice and refreshing compared to a lot of the fandoms I’ve been a part of. There are still issues-but they are a lot quieter and are washed out by the good things. Anyways, I hope anyone who is reading this a good day/night and don’t forget to stay hydrated and take a moment to relax ^_^ cheers
Thank you port!! Moomins gives so many feelings that it's hard to describe them all haha! If you haven't seen this video by Noralities, about Moomins. It's really good, and she goes more in depth about it all! ruclips.net/video/StPPKdqNbig/видео.html
I'm so glad you like this much Moon Valley, I grew up watching it and learning basic values of life and I'm still grateful for that. Greetings from Finland :)
Yo, as a Finn and being born in the mid 90's, the angle of an english speaking person watching and giving a review these days was a really fun take! :D
Greatest fans of Moomin are Finnish ytp'ists, who know every syllable on the whole show, like bottoms of their pockets, being able to word mix legendariest quotes you will ever hear.
I agree. It sounds weird to say but watching this show heals the aggravated part inside of me that is socially anxious and sees all strangers as enemies. There's nothing wrong with just being, all of your unfortunate flaws included. This show captures that sentiment extremely well. Instead of finding opportunities to disagree, be angry, belittle each other or be hateful, the characters almost always choose the right path of just being nice, understanding and helpful.
The series is charming and beautiful in its own way combining japanese sensibilities with scandinavian ones, but I just have to say: the books are even more magical because they are also incredibly wise, beyond all this coziness. So you're in for a treat :)

I'm brazilian and last year I started to watch the Moomins. Bro, this show is amazing. It's a confort felling, you know? All the stories and characters. They are so lovely and kind. It's like I could make a tea party and talk about the good things in life with them. I just love them
I just started watching the series a few days ago, but I really wish that I had found this franchise much sooner in life. It's just so peaceful and special.
The 90's anime-series is actually called simply "Moomin", or "Tales From Moominvalley". Moominvalley would be the 2019 show that seems to have finally made the Moomins the world phenomenon it deserves to be.
I grew up watching Moomins and was kinda surprised how well it holds up when I watched is an adult. In fact, it's one of those series that grows up with you, and you appreciate aspects of it you didn't even notice as a kid. It's not just relaxing, but also mysterious, and sometimes scary (the Groke, man!). It touches on deeper themes, like friendship, dealing with separation and loneliness, our relationship to nature, etc. It teaches life lessons but not in a didactic manner, but rather by being sincere and real in a gentle way. It's also beautifully animated. An all-around classic.
This show is my childhood in a nutshell. I'm so upset that I can't find my old VHS tapes with both the original Swedish and Finnish dubs... I really hope I'll find them somewhere still...
I was scared of this cartoon (or well, technically it's an anime. It was made in Japan) as a child due to disturbing stuff like the ice queen. It was weird, I found the show disturbing and unsettling but at the same time it felt sorta cozy...
I found out about this show recently and I’ve fallen in love with it almost immediately. I loved how you summerised this whole masterpiece and I whole-heartedly agree with you, this show did give me peace and relaxation after I’ve been watching too many action series. Thanks for making such a splendid video and I will continue watching your content🥹
I have read the books and they are so sweet and such an easy way to escape reality for a bit. I feel like moomin is in the same vain as Little Bear and Winnie the Pooh. They just live each day at their own pace and sometimes there is adventure and sometimes there isn’t. It’s like having adventures in your own back yard/neighborhood sort of feeling. Kind of simple yet profound. Also I noticed in these old kids books there always seems to be a best friend character that leaves around fall/winter only to return in spring/summer. Moomin has Snufkin, Winnie the Pooh had Christopher Robbin and Little Bear had Emily. All best friend who tend to go away for a period of time during winter. Just something I noticed. What other shows do this too?
Well, some kids have friends at school that they don't see during the long vacation. Makes sense to include that experience in children's books. It's major because 2-3 months is a long time to a child.
I'm just glad that my childhood series finally gets the recognition it deserves. For the last 30 years or so it really didn't seem like a thing among English speakers, but now that's clearly changing and fast. I'm seeing an influx of memes that would've emerged way earlier if people just knew about the series. Thanks to the copyright owners for FINALLY releasing it here as well. Too bad the original Finnish dub that I grew up with has been put in a vault.
i come from finland , moomins is an religion for us that an santa lol and i love this presentation. there also english programs about moomins which is funny and little my is very cheeky there
I think the feeling i mostly assosiate the moomins with its Comfort, i started watching them in a stressfull time of my life and they soon became a balm for my soul, when i had nightmares or after midterms it was my go to cartoon
i watched Moominvalley last year, and it's become my favourite cartoon, and thats saying a lot. Moomin was a breath of fresh air since i watched while i was dealing with,, a lot of things, to say the least. Moominvalley holds a special place in my heart, and i'm glad its getting more attention.
Great great great video dude ! I REALLY want to watch the show now, I already watched one or two episodes and liked it. But now I feel like I will love it ! I really like the way you compared it to your comic and showed the way it affected your art ! I want more of this :3
One thing I love is that everyone in Moominvalley is so nice that Moomin doesn’t even know what sarcasm is until Too-Ticky has to explain it to him in the Ninny episode, that’s how kind and straight forward everyone around him is and that’s such a nice detail
This series was my first non-preschool cartoon I ever saw. It was a world of fantasy, magic and just happiness of being alive. It showed me many things, but the one I held the most was to appreciate what I have. Because living in the moment, no matter how small is real majesty. Life is a magical journey, never forget it!
I'm so grateful the channel uploaded the 1990 anime episodes. Watching it made me feel nostalgic even though I had never watched The Moomins growing up. It has the sweetest most mellow depiction of fantasy I've experienced, while also managing to send across messages of loneliness, abandonment, anarchy, love, and sexuality. I'm definitely going to read Jansson's books once I'm done
Oh my... I have loved mumintrollen (in swedish) my whole life and this wideo all most made me cry. Your description and thought about the series is so on point and so beautful.
never have i ever had someone gone through moomin, my childhood like this, i cried and understood something about myself with your video, thank you. thank you that you made this moomin video.
I get emotional whenever i watch this show i just finished watching it, few weeks back some of its episodes are banned but i searched them in torrents i have a whole bunch of calm background music it would come once a week o national television, we didn't used to have have other channels back then, i would be anxious if Snaufkin would be back or not lots of nostalgia, emotions..........best cartoon ever
One storyline I enjoyed, not sure if it's in the 90s Anime series, but it is in the 80s Fuzzy Felt series (and the books of course) is where the Moomins all wake up one winter and everyone is rushing around because it's Christmas, which of course the Moomins know nothing about because they are usually in hibernation. They think Christmas is some kind of spirit that visits and then goes away again. Christmas comes and goes, then the Moomins, feeling very sleepy by the end of it all go back into hibernation again until Spring.
This is a wonderful analysis of the show. You described it exactly how I want to but I always struggled to put it into words. It is a truly special show. It does indeed give us feelings that we cannot get in any other. I think you put it perfectly when you said it is like childhood.. before we knew how the world really was, when we thought everything and one was good and kind. It is in some ways like a short journey back to those beautiful, carefree days of our youth. I'm glad to see it getting a lot more recognition and appreciation recently. I recently bought all of Tove Jansson's Moomin books. There's now a lovely little hardback collector's series available with original vintage style covers.. they're actually quite reasonable too, only around £10 each.. I think there are 7 or 8 books in the series. So you get the entire series for well under £100. Some people don't count the very first one "Moomins and The Great Flood".. in fact, it isn't even part of the collector's series, but I found another hardback of it. I am looking very forward to beginning reading them all. I hope you do too. I've also heard great things about the Comic series. Thanks for posting this video. It was really great.
I didn't upload for awhile so RUclips probably thinks I'm a scrub. haha I'm gonna pump out videos biweekly here from now on though! ( ̄︶ ̄)↗ More moomin videos mixed in here and there too!
I've gotten a similar feeling back to my life since I joined back to a certain subculture with my old friends. Life got way simpler again and i can really feel the love and like i belong there. Like being a kid again. And then again, i grew up watching Moomins. And reading the books. I might've learned a bit more from it than I thought.
I get goosebumps when you show clips from episodes that has the Groke in them. This is also a great video and explains Moomins in a great way to someone who is not familiar with them. I grew up with Moomins and since 2017 when Yle had to redub them again (in finnish) I've been trying to find the series with the old dubs. The old dubs gives so strong feeling of nostalgia that I must find them. I know that my siblings love Moomins too and if I some day get my hands on the old dubs, we could have a Moomin marathon.
Very well put! As a 31yr old Finn, this show was my childhood and I am happy that it's getting international recognition. The books I read much later but they are well worth reading and very philosophical.
Early 90s Nick Jr. had several of these low-key adventure shows like David the Gnome, Maya the Bee, The Little Prince, or Grimm's Fairy Tales. Maybe some of it was too easy to fall asleep to, but it was generally wholesome and just... nice to have around.
I've been watching Mooming on weekend mornings since quarantine started trying to watch one chapter at a time, and now I'm almost done. It really brought me peace in uncertain times. The stories, the fantasy, the music, the characters. I loved it. It's definitely going to be one of my favourite shows of all time. I really recommend watching it slowly enjoying each story and specially during cloudy mornings or days. It'll kinda make you feel more immersed. 😋
Great analysis! I never really thought of how much depth this show actually has. Goes to show that even if it's marketed towards children they don't treat them like idiots. What's even better is that some episodes got banned in Norway where I live cause it was deemed "Too scary for children".. The Groke primarily which even to this day scares the living crap out of me ^^
What a beautiful video that helps to capture the core essence of what The Moomins means to so many people. I also enjoyed the music in the background! It was a nice touch ❤
Odly enough, I felt like Moomin perfectly represents this sort of "childhood summer holidays" feeling.
Yeah that's a good way to put it!! Moomins so lucky he never goes to school once in the show!
Very well put! I'd like to add that I like how the series shows children just playing and innovating stuff that they could play with or exploring their local neighborhood. Most cartoons depict child characters as some kind of heroes who have to defeat some villain. They give really restless feeling instead of Moomins calmness

“lighthearted problems” shows little my being frozen by the lady of the cold
Moomin vally sure was a breath of fresh air for me

“There’s never any crime in Moomin Valley”

Not something you would see in todays kids cartoons for sure.
the moomin comics are just a different breed
I'm a Finnish person, and I grew up watching Adventures of Moominvalley/Tales from Moominvalley/Muumilaakson tarinoita - and your video makes me emotional. Your praising words and just the soundtrack in the back round brings tears to my eyes. I'm so happy that you have found Moomins and love it so much. For Finns Moomins are national treasure, every kid born after mid 70's have watched the show. The adventures, characters, things you can learn, the MUSIC is all love. There is no other place like Moominvalley. ❤
I felt the exact motions.
Also for Nepalese.. love from Nepal 💕
As a fellow finn this is so relatable
There actually was a legit anime in the 60's or 70's.. But it was never translated into English.
We have two channels with adventures from moominvalley
Mtv3 has 1/26 per season
And yle2 has 1/13 eps per season here in finland
Season 2 was much worse that season 1. Filled with goofy humour, un-moomin-like, shallow, mean-spirited attitudes, and it had chaotic plots too.
This cartoon was basically my childhood(as it was for a lot of Finns and still probably is) it might be nostalgia talking, but this show is just comforting and homey to me,it's somehow entertaining and calming at the same time.
It is very calming and comforing but mörkö was the scariest shit ever for a little child.
@@hh9150 very much agreed,i still get creeped out by her
@@torturequeen1640 I refuse to refer to it as anything other than ”it”.

Moomins is basically like the Finnish equivalent of Winnie The Pooh.
@@Winland88 It's truly sad how the entire entertaiment industry nowadays lacks subtlety and thinks the audience are full of idiots.
Very relaxing...
aw man that sounds SO relaxing! I'll definitely get them for sure!
The neighborhood kids playing noises are not relaxing. They scream all the time and it's very irritating
@@eezz3597 yea she does c:
"Everyone in moominvalley loves everyone"
Tell that to the poor Groke
Tove Jansson did illustration for a Swedish translation of The Hobbit,
they also got used in some other translations.
"The problems arent life threatening"

Yeah definitely try watching it again and seeing how it feels now!! I'm curious if it's still unsettling
Naah i wouldnt agree with the boring and kinda sucks thing
you know what feels illegal? the fact that those moomins episodes are region blocked in finland.
The most prevalent feeling I had when I started watching was nostalgia. Here’s this franchise from a different continent that I’ve certainly never seen before, but it gave me such a refreshing sense of nostalgia
Moomin valley is the bluey of the 90s and i think that is great !
Tove Jansson, who make this back then was a real artist, with pencil, eraser and ink. I really love this show
Moomin is basically the Animal Crossing series but as a show/novel that is super chill.

There's even more episodes than the 78 but they were never translated from their original language. So... You should check those out too!
Please don't: the second season is very different, with features this video is complaining about in typical cartoons.

The 90's anime-series is actually called simply "Moomin", or "Tales From Moominvalley". Moominvalley would be the 2019 show that seems to have finally made the Moomins the world phenomenon it deserves to be.
Most of the world already had it- it's the Americans that strangely never did until recently. Hence the sudden resurgence.

Renember little bear and winnie pooh 😟😭
Well, some kids have friends at school that they don't see during the long vacation. Makes sense to include that experience in children's books. It's major because 2-3 months is a long time to a child.
I started watching Moomins a short while ago and have been loving it, more videos about it would be enjoyable!

Moominvalley is that tv show you watch when you're sick and you've already watched every other tv show on.

Christmas comes and goes, then the Moomins, feeling very sleepy by the end of it all go back into hibernation again until Spring.
it's in the 90's anime! it's one of my fav episodes too, very comforting and encapsulated the chilly yet cozy feeling of christmas as a kid:-)
Moomin Valley is why i’m a cottagecore lesbian

I've gotten a similar feeling back to my life since I joined back to a certain subculture with my old friends. Life got way simpler again and i can really feel the love and like i belong there. Like being a kid again.
And then again, i grew up watching Moomins. And reading the books. I might've learned a bit more from it than I thought.
The English translation is so different from the Swedish translation I grew up with,
they made so many of the characters so rude and sassy xD
I love moomin it has been one of my favorite cartoons since I was a baby
I get goosebumps when you show clips from episodes that has the Groke in them. This is also a great video and explains Moomins in a great way to someone who is not familiar with them.
I grew up with Moomins and since 2017 when Yle had to redub them again (in finnish) I've been trying to find the series with the old dubs. The old dubs gives so strong feeling of nostalgia that I must find them. I know that my siblings love Moomins too and if I some day get my hands on the old dubs, we could have a Moomin marathon.
This video is honestly so good! I haven't heard of this show before but I definitely will now! Seems super chill and magical
The Groke primarily which even to this day scares the living crap out of me ^^
I’m an American and the Moomins are kind of obscure here but I do love this cartoon! And the music to this series is so good!!!
What a beautiful video that helps to capture the core essence of what The Moomins means to so many people. I also enjoyed the music in the background! It was a nice touch ❤
