      @@yoshimika3209 It's really nice, it's my first Osprey, liking it quite a lot so far. I wanted a laptop backpack that can also double as a travel bag for 2-3 day trips, and I think it's perfect for that. I'm coming from a 6 year old targus, which was also awesome and lasted really long considering how rough I was with it. Why do you want the new Tropos if you already have the 2018 version? A little redundant in my opinion. I would recommend you get something else with a different form factor that can serve some other purpose. But then it's a nice looking backpack, more polished and 'monochrome' compared to the 2018 version, so if you're into that get it by all means!

    • @yoshimika3209
      @yoshimika3209 5 лет назад +2

      @@preethemsrinath2447 I was just thinking about it. But you're right. I also have the Osprey Manta 34 which is more of a day hiking pack. It's pretty amazing.
      I got my tropos for a big sale last year from REI. So I held onto it for about a year now. I love it. Great for work.

    • @preethemsrinath2447
      @preethemsrinath2447 5 лет назад +1

      @@yoshimika3209 The Tropos appears to be one-of-a-kind with no real comparison to any other bag in the market, at least this year. I really like the feature set, exactly what I want/need, no more, no less. I don't do multiple backpacks. I really do my research, get just one and commit hard to it for a long haul of a minimum of 5 years - always been like that. This time I picked the Tropos, and I hope/expect it to serve me well! Let's see.

    • @SamiGabbouj
      @SamiGabbouj 5 лет назад +2

      A review for the new Radial 26/34 L and a comparison to the Tropos 32 L would be much appreciated!
      I initially bought a Nebula, but later returned it and got a Radial instead for the trampoline back, kickstand, etc. Now I'm second guessing whether to get a Tropos instead. My main concern for the Radial is the angled side bottle pocket. Large bottles are tough to push in and the angled bottle may hit your arm.

    • @michaelreed649
      @michaelreed649 5 лет назад +3

      @@SamiGabbouj I bought all three Osprey bags from REI with the intent of returning 2. I had thought the Tropos would be the winner. I was wrong.
      The Nebula is a good bag but it was just average. It did nothing wrong but was not special.
      The Tropos was a great bag but there were three advantages that the Radial 26 had over the Tropos. I will explain in order from least important to most important .
      First was size. I didn't like the larger size of the Tropos. The point of this bag for me, was around the town and on campus. Too big will encourage me to over pack and I didn't want that.
      Next was the the kickstand didn't work as well on the Tropos as the radial. Now I didn't think that would matter but it turned out to be a bigger deal than I thought. If the Tropos was mostly empty, it would not stand up without effort. The Radial Always stood up. Ironic since the tropos was the reason for the development of the kickstand.
      The BIGGEST factor was comfort.
      The Radial was significantly more comfortable than anything else, including the Tropos. It was designed as a commuters pack for a bike so there was a lot of attention to comfort. Both have a trampoline style back and that helps both but the one on the Tropos is MUCH closer to the frame.
      There is more air between the frame and the trampoline on the Radial. The Tropos was comfortable but the Radial took it to the next level. PLUS, I live in Houston. It is heat index of over 100 for 8 months out ot of the year. The Radial breathed like there was no pack at all.
      When you add the included rain fly, it was the bag for me.
      I hope that helps.
      I also tried out the Thule Paramount, Thule Pack and Paddle commuter bag, the North Face Recon, and the Millicon Smith 25 pack. The best was the Radial.

    • @SamiGabbouj
      @SamiGabbouj 5 лет назад +1

      Michael Reed, thanks for your insights! You seem to refer to the old 26 L Radial (new one is extendable 26/34L). Are also referring to the old Tropos or the 2019 model?

    • @michaelreed649
      @michaelreed649 5 лет назад

      @@SamiGabbouj I prefer the look of the new Tropos but picked up the old version due to its functionality.
      The new version requires you to unbuckle the compression straps to even get into the front so I tried out the 2018 version.
      I did try on the 2018 version of the Tropos and did not feel that there was any difference in comfort.
      Please don't misunderstand, I think the Tropos is a great pack.
      But for me, the Radial was better.
      It was more comfortable and cooler, as well as standing on it's own even when empty.

    After seeing this vid, got one today without try (no serious). Not enough in/ex pockets, even for a day pack (need more pouch), laptops may get scratched by the zip front of it, useless front compartment [0/10 for organization]. Kickstand feature not work until has the big stuffs inside. When compressing the bag, look weird when see from the side. No-scratch top pocket pushes into the main compartment without protection. No belt strap keeping (found in every new-gen backpack). Compare from experience with TNF, Timbuk2, Thule backpack, this one is probably the last option. The only good one that I buy is back panel, for the f 35c all time city.

    while i can appreciate the function and improvements in the Tropos, the form is a tad too large in comparison for me being able to do the same activities with my old version of the Nebula 34. oh and, the original Nebula didn't need a kickstand. one little request, can you show us with the bags on to get a visual of how the bags hang? great review as usual. Finally bag companies have stopped that "TSA compliant" clam-shell thingy. TSA is going to make you take out your laptop, bag companies have no say-so in what TSA does, but they still try to sell it as a feature and all it does is take up room in the bag.

    I bought this bag, returned it immediately.
    The quality of the fabric is cheap. The kickstand doesn't work at all. The hole at the top for your hydration system will get water on your laptop if it rains. The front pocket is unusable. Almost all zippers are hard to operate. Only one zipper on laptop compartment. No zipped or any organisation in the front compartment. No zipped pockets on the side for quick acces.
    The only positive is the back system. The rest, not even worth 50 euro/dollar.

    Great review, George! I'm greatly interested in this bag for overnight work & travel. I have a couple questions:
    Did you feel as if the metal internal frame of the Tropos dug into your back at all when loaded? I have seen some reports of that being the case after extended, loaded use.
    Also, would any kind of jacket be able to fit into that front access pocket by chance?
    Thanks again for your work and great review!

    • @GeorgeDEFINED
      @GeorgeDEFINED  5 лет назад +2

      I only carried it from my house to the train and from the train a block to work for a week so I can't answer about long extended travel however I didn't have any pain my testing. And yes you can easily put like a North Face Venture jacket or a fleece shell in the front pocket. See ya
