Grew up in a the south side Chicago. Born 1932. We had beautiful neighborhoods with services. Grocery stores, bakeries, bars, restaurants,,meat markets….you name it. Family went back to Indiana, father was hurt on job, his parents were from Indiana during the late forties. Over the time span of less than twenty years our relatives in the city were telling us of the nightmare happening to our city. These days our old neighborhood is called The New City behind the Stock Yards. Most homes that remain are boarded up or bulldozed away. I see on Red Fin what were once beautiful,livable houses can be purchased for less than hundred thousand dollars? Shame 😢 I forgot to mention churches and the beautiful Catholic Church across the street from Sherman public school.
