All very valid points. Another issue with this set, is gradients. There’s a ton of banding. Sony just does the LGD WRGB displays more justice IMO. OOTB color accuracy is great on Sony’s too. They’re way more dialed in than LG. Not to mention, just overall superior picture processing. I wish I didn’t buy the CX last year, and waited for the A80J, or U8G, or QN90A. There’s just a lot of compromises on the CX, which is a punch in the gut, after almost $2k. HDR impact and performance is what leaves me wanting more, especially after owning nothing but FALD QLEDs. I personally can see where OLEDs run out of color volume in those brighter shades of color, with a lot of luminance behind them. Last...that was probably the worst room to put an OLED in lol.
Thanks yeah I can see the gradients too, I wasn’t sure if they were due to the limitations of the panel or the limitations of the streaming services I use ( I have gone full streaming these days instead of discs) so that is definitely one to concise also. I had co considered the Sony and the Philips alternatives however looking at them in the show room there did not appear too much difference between the panels - however this could just be down to the show reel feed they were showing to display a best case picture for each. The TV in this room does great - it is big and bright enough for all day use and at night or when we are watching anything we are particularly interested in we can shut the blinds and make it nice and dark and cinematic - however even on bright days as it was when I recorded this it does great! Thanks for the comments tho! Will take a look at the other tv’s 👍🏻
@@thattechdad4929 A lot of it does have to do with compression artifacts from streaming services. It’s good with quality content, it just struggles with low-bit rate stuff. To be fair, I see all these artifacts on my RGB OLED on my iPhone 11 Pro Max....they’re just not as glaring to me, bc the size....and the LG can kinda clean it up somewhat, by using low smooth gradation. But in lies another issue with the CX...Smooth gradation is broken. It just is, and people like Vincent Teoh will even say this. Or at least I’ve heard him say it in a video. But I know personally, bc if you use medium or high, there are artifacts...(not just loss of fine detail)but actual artifacts. And I was the exact same way you were. I just figured I’d go with LG bc they’re using the same panel...but I was kinda wrong I think. If you’ve ever really compare which TV looks better, the Sony just is able to hold onto more of that color volume than LG. It’s noticeable to me at least. Tho it’s not night and day. The Sony just has more shades of color than the LG. And like I said, has much better color accuracy OOTB. LG just does something weird with the grayscale, that I just personally don’t really like. They just need to improve near black issues, which the C1 did, but at a cost....maybe they need to turn off the white sub pixel, like Sony and Panasonic? Which Sony still isn’t perfect at either. Panasonic is about the best. But for hardcore gaming, and PC use, I’d say go with the LG. Bc it just has everything working....with the caveat that VRR flickers and flashes sometimes, and mainly only in like menus of games. But the same happens with TruMotion on, especially in HDR/DV content. And even BFI, with SDR. A lot of this can be fixed, by calibrating the set tho. LG’s can be improved quite a bit, from my understanding, especially if the person knows what they’re doing. Still, for the average person, that truly wants the best PQ OTTB, Sony just has that, especially with their new XR processor. For hardcore gamers, go LG...I mean it’s really all subjective in the end I guess. It’s pretty crazy how good a OLED can do in a bright room. And they actually can look really good in one too, bc of that glossy black screen, making blacks look really deep, giving amazing depth to the image. But a dark room is really where they shine, and the strengths come out. You also probably would of appreciate something like a QLED a little more, in a room like that. They’re just able to handle that ambient light, and direct sunlight sooo much better. But then you have all the LCD downsides that come with that tech. So no matter where you go, there is no perfect TV.....moral of the story.
If anyone ever comes into my room that "doesn't know the TV" and tries to move it, they will be quickly removed from my house. And probably my life. What an odd concern.
Not something that happens regularly but with the position of this tv next to the window, and as it can be moved, some people have actually tried to angle it away from the widow not realising it’s so fragile … they have been removed from my house and life also 🤣🤣
@rochester - all these reasons are subjective, Just my opinion bro, I am not the only one who has had these issues but maybe in the minority, was just putting it out there.
I own a CX 65 inch tv and whenever I watch an UHD movie it's like watching a quality of video that I've never seen before. Nothing comes close to a UHD movie on the CX. It's better than a movie theater image imo. When you watch 720p content it looks pretty ordinary, so be aware of that. If you want your socks knocked off you need a 4k blu-ray player. The out of the box color is a touch orange (only slightly) when it displays red. The contrast and inky black is nothing short of badass. I could never go back to a regualr HDTV again. The guide speed doesn't bother me, and the remote is fine for me. One thing that does bother me is that my guide is not displaying a preview image of the channel I am currently on, and that is irritating me.
Thanks for the comment - yes the uhd stuff is next level in terms of quality - it’s superb … I have had a blue ray player in the past but enjoy the connivence of streaming to be honest so will still with that for just now! If you want a preview of the channel you are watching - on the guild in the top right hand corner there is an icon to turn on mini preview - this will give you a preview of the channel you on! Hope this helps! Thanks man! If you can give me a subscribe that would be awesome ! Thanks
Thanks - I’ll take a look for next time - unfortunately this TV is beyond the return time frame and like I said in the video I spend a considerable amount of time and effort to actually mount this due to the make up of the wall and the position of the VESA mounts of another model would mean I would have to re-due this to get it in the same position! …. So I’m just gonna work with it haha Thanks for the comment 👍🏻
Thanks man - the tv is a great tv - I’m not complaining or knocking it but these were just the things that I thought people should know before they buy - I have been watching the football a lot and my green levels are very high and just can’t get right if I’m watching it on normal tv however if i watch it on the iPlayer it’s spot on so who knows haha
@@thattechdad4929 yes, that's part of the problem - you can get the picture right on one type of broadcast but it's awful on another.. for example the picture looks great on HD but then it's horribly bleached out on SD.. likewise with movies.. you set it up for one film then another one looks terrible.. I've have had this TV for over a year and I still constantly fiddle about. I couldn't be bothered to send it back but I wasn't exactly over the moon with it. Other issues include I can't get TV internal speak + optical to work - the volume controls the tv speakers but the optical is on full volume, so this feature is completely useless.. it's even more stupid with TV + headphone because you get two separate volume controls! I also find the scrubber for the timeshift more or less unusable - it's like a fruit machine skill chance, you try to rewind or ffwd on the scrubber bar and it flies off five minutes at a time and at ridiculous repeat rate; it's impossible to seek easily a minute or two backwards or forwards. The wheel on the remote also accidentally changes channel when you press to select an option which is infuriating. I have also found on automatic tuning updates that half my channels disappear so I turned that feature off. And one completely idiotic thing was the power lead being fixed to the TV and only about a meter long so I had to get a small extension lead with the bulky connection behind the wall mount just to power it up. Overall after owning this TV for a year or so I would give it no more than about 6 or 7 / 10
