Hello, you’re right! The opera was performed in Treviso (Italy). All the audiences are a bit ‘particular’ here in Italy. Sometimes for conceit, and sometimes because the audience doesn’t really know the opera. In addition, usually there aren’t subtitles or surtitles for operas sung in Italian here, so many people don’t understand what the singer is saying and cannot share the emotions. I experienced the same regarding Rossini’s operas: I often listened to the audiences laughing abroad more than here in Italy, thanks to surtititles...
