  • We all need a friend.
I don’t remember when I saw my first Hoya macrophylla albomarginata. I remember that I didn’t know what it was or much else about it; but I remember those leaves. When I started collecting Hoya, saw the leaves again and found out what it was, it went onto the wish list. I wanted those leaves.
I kept my eyes open, shopped around, and found that rare combination of plant and price. When he arrived, he was healthy and settled into his new home readily. I give him a tall trellis, and once he found it, up he went. The trellis is 45” tall and he reached the top in no time. Life was good.
But he seemed lonely there, all by himself in his pot. He needed a friend. I just happened to see another macro at Hirt’s @hirtsgardens. The price was good, so without telling him, I ordered another one. The new guy arrived healthy, with a long vine already started and a good root system.
I could tell where the roots of the existing macro were, so I removed enough bark near the other upright to get the new guy tucked in and voila! They each have their own side of the trellis, and I’ve got a fuller pot of the leaves I love.
    I’ll keep you posted.

He's been chopped, propped, double-up and moved to pon and self-watering recently and is now settling into his new digs. Thanks for the watch and the comment.

Even more than a carnosa, it's the quintessential hoya for me. Thanks for the watch and the comment.
