I am a brazilian musician and now I decided to prpare som bossa nova repertoire and I want to thank you for the great and useful channel. Thank for sharing to all of us around the world . Greetings from Brazil.
Thank you so much for putting in the effort to make a high quality guide for Bossa Nova guitar. I've found it very useful and inspiring! Brazilian music is incredible.
Fantastic job! I’ve seen many musicians trying to teach bossa here in Brazil and you are definitely the one who explained it better, especially the sincopado and the tempo.
Obrigado pelas aulas...
2:04 looks like you wrote 6 instead of 7 again, but as mentioned in another comment it's fine. absolutely my favorite lessons in quality and style! many thanks!
Yes, you're right. Sorry for the typo and thank you for pointing this out. I put your correction in the description. And thanks a lot for the nice words.
Your lessons are fantastic and thank you so much for them but I almost hate them as well because you're so incredible along with quick and fast whilst I struggle to catch up with you! Thanks to you I can play Bim-Bom, Chega de Saudade, So Danço Samba, Garota de Ipanema, Agua de Beber and now the One Note Samba. Thank you so much for teaching me how to play the music I love. Take care. :)
Thank you for the lessons, the fact that you don't have thousands of subscribers is beyond me, keep up the good work. By the way, just a heads up, there is a tiny error at 1:23 there is a 6 instead of a 7 in the chord diagram, it's really no problem, but a beginner might get confused. And thank you again for the wonderful lesson you make.
Exactly, another thing is that they must fix the diagrams on the same page bossanovaguitar.com, because when you look for the C6 chord, it will appear in fret 6, thank you very much for these beautiful lessons, blessings. Exactamente, otra cosa es que deben de arreglar los diagramas en la misma pagina bossanovaguitar.com, porque cuando buscas el acorde de C6, te aparace en traste 6, muchas gracias por estas lecciones tan bonitas, bendiciones.
Haha, the melody in the first part is (mostly) a note 'so', while the second part is more diverse. It also goes along very well with the lyrics in those two parts. Thanks for your input.
thanks for the great lesson :) thums up! just one small detail, on minute 1:24 when you go one octave higher, you are playing Em7 and your chord drawing should start at thread 7, but is displayed at 6 ;) actually when trying to play we can hear the half tone below, but just in case leaving the comment here
Very beautiful. I noticed the string height on your guitar is fairly low, is that a flamenco? Also there is no string squeeks, what strings are you using?
Isn't the chord shape at 1:23 Ebm7, not Em7? I'm pretty sure I'm right about this. The label under the chord is wrong. THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!! I liked and subscribed. Dan in Muncie, Indiana!
No, the number 6 is a typo, it should be 7. Previously I solved it with annotations, but RUclips disabled them :( Thank you for subscribing and thanks for your input.
Thanks for pointing that out, I added this correction to video description. Previously I solved those typos by overlaying annotations over the video, but RUclips unfortunately removed that feature. Thanks for your post!
Thanks again for this amazing lessons. I got a question about bossa nova's fingering. Do you use your nails or the fingertips? Or maybe Joao mixed both? Thanks again!
I use fingernails. Not sure about Joao, but judging from the positions of his fingers and from the sound of his guitar I'd say he also used fingernails. Thanks for your input.
you are from US, or from Brazil ? is that the original tune? Cm7#, is not from Gilberto arrangements? I thought that the original tune was B,, can you please tell me? thanks ;) very nice,, ;)
Neither. I'm from Croatia. The key from Gilberto's first recording is in fact A major, C#m7 is just the starting chord. Jobim played it in G, so the starting chord would be Bm7 as you correctly observed. I have played it in G as well, it's easy to transpose, you just need to replace F7 with Eb7 (for example 6x564) and Fmaj7 with Ebmaj7 (x6533x), all other chords are just shifted two frets down. Hope that helps. Thanks for your post.
The rhythm is written with standard music notation on all videos I make. In case you don't know how to read it there are plenty of online resources for learning notes, just Google around. It won't take much time, maybe an hour or so to grasp the concepts and maybe few days to get used to it. For a more in-depth music notation study there is a freely available online book, I cannot post a link here, but you'll find it by searching for: understanding basic music theory catherine schmidt-jones BTW, the notes in the rhythm box on my videos are placed in relation to their timings, so if you imagine the time plotted on the horizontal axis then the notes are plotted on the exact points in time when they are played. Hope that helps and thanks for your input.
How about if you were to play this song in a Rhumba style? I have a few songs and the style says Rhumba and I just kind of fake it, any thoughts? I don't mean the flamenco rhumba
If what you're looking for is a guide on Cuban style rumba, try to search for the terms like "son", "cuban guitar" etc. I'm sure there are plenty of them.
Rhythm and chords are just a bunch of bitmaps that were overlaid on the video before encoding. I'm using opensource video tools for video processing: Virtualdub, Avisynth and ffmpeg. Bitmaps are generated by php/javascript solution I developed for bossanovaguitar.com website using svg and html canvas graphics. Thanks for your input.

the relief I feel when a passage repeats itself
Didnt think I'd ever spend so many hours on a 2 min video... Thanks!
You're welcome. Thanks for your post.
I will do the same. I started last week…
In fact I have all the chords now. I just need to play them on rhythm

da pianista rimango affascinato dalle posizioni sulla chitarra per questa bossa
Grazie!
It’s so worth it to learn these they are so calming just learned Corcovado
Glad you like it!
Mislave (at least I think so), you are real bossa master. I rarely played this genre, but your lessons are exceptional.
Pozdrav,
Tomislav
Hvala Tomi! I'm really glad you and others find these lessons useful. Pozdrav!
exactly the song i want to learn. just thought about one note samba today :)
It looks like I really hit the spot. Thanks! Pay attention to staccato/legato usage as well as crescendo during the "nota so" phrase. Enjoy!
I will :) Tom Jobim - Wave would be very nice too :)
Wave's on the list as well.

Beautiful anbd so helpful!!!
Glad you think so! Thank you very much!
Now I’m not an expert but this looks like more than one note to me.
Haha, the melody in the first part is (mostly) a note 'so', while the second part is more diverse. It also goes along very well with the lyrics in those two parts. Thanks for your input.

I know, that's a typo and unfortunately I can't fix it anymore. Thanks for pointing this out.
Very beautiful. I noticed the string height on your guitar is fairly low, is that a flamenco? Also there is no string squeeks, what strings are you using?
1:26 es el TRASTE 7 no el 6 en Em7 por lo demas genial, hacia falta el comentario sobre esto en español xD
O Samba de Uma Nota Só deveria chamar-se Samba que Não Fica nUma Nota Só. Fantástico! A Bossa Nova soa simples, mas é complexa.
Obrigado!
Marvellous!!!!!!
Thank you!

There is a typo at 1:28--should be "7", not "6", for the Em7
Thanks for pointing that out, I added this correction to video description. Previously I solved those typos by overlaying annotations over the video, but RUclips unfortunately removed that feature. Thanks for your post!

@@bossanovaguitar In the live in Tokyo video around RUclips, you can clearly see that he had really long fingernails, so you are correct

Great Lesson! What make and model is your guitar?
Yairi CY140, solid cedar top, jacaranda back/sides. Thanks for your post.
I'm home!
Glad you are!
If anyone can help me I need a video or anything to learn how to read rythemic phrase

first you mus show in the beginning of the video the complete realese , if dont, i will not be sure if the progression is good or bad
What software and/or plugin do you use for the rhythm and chord info?

@@bossanovaguitar a fellow programmer then? Nice result.
Thanks! Not really a serious programmer, but I know few bits and pieces. Hope you enjoy the lessons as well.
sorry, but what does the RHYTHMIC PHRASE mean? like 4442 1212 ? my english is not that good.
Rhythmic phrase is a repeated pattern of beats played by an instrument, a guitar in this case. Please visit bossanovaguitar.com site for further info.
2:04 there's an error in chord writing
1:23 not 7th fret?
Can someone help me find a video that actually goes into the chords. This video is not helping me
If you're looking for chord sheets those are available at bossanovaguitar.com. Thanks for your input.
Thanks, this video did help in the end. I just slowed it down more.
👍
Thanks!
Is there a PDF for this?
If you are looking for guitar tablature, then no. However you can find lyrics/chord chart on bossanovaguitar.com. Thanks for your comments.
thank you very much; but I never use paypal, since they cut Julian Assange.
Thanks for the advice, I'll try to add more options in future. FYI there is also Patreon option on my website, it can be used for one off payments.
Looks like One Note Samba isn't really played on one note at all 😅
Yes, haha! Thanks!
No,no,no
No what?
