I love seeing media from Ireland getting some recognition. Kneecap is absolutely one of my favourite movies of the year, and they’re definitely one of my favourite artists I’ve discovered in the past few years. The work they’ve been doing for our language in recent years is amazing. I saw them in the SSE Arena in Belfast, where the boys are from, a few weeks ago. They completely sold it out, and still went through with the show even though Móglaí Bap’s father passed the day before. It was the biggest and most important gig of their career and they absolutely delivered. The movie won an Audience Award at Sundance and it’s on the shortlist for International feature film at the Oscars. Everyone, Please watch the movie if you can. I’ve rambled but I just wanted to say, Go raibh mile maith agat, Coy🇮🇪
I had never considered voice performance to be an Oscar category until I watched The Wild robot. Loved Lupita in this. And I did hear that the academy is considering adding a stunt category mostly because of the fall guy. Don’t know if it’ll get added but fingers crossed
Just saw your review of kneecap and as someone from Belfast I have to say I was blown away by the amount of research and passion you show towards our culture. They’ve definitely made me and many others here want to speak a language we’ve been deprived of. A tragedy and crime this is the case but those lads have done some serious work for the language.
Awesome full list Coy! And always appreciate your articulate and passionate reviews! Here are my top 5 favs of the year: 5. The Substance - Wild ride of a movie. Great themes and unique delivery of all aspects in it 4. Transformers: One - Shocked how much I liked this. Great characters, story and beautiful animation 3. Strange Darling - Went into this one blind and anyone should do the same if they haven't seen it 2. The Wild Robot - Loved the characters/ story and packs a huge emotional punch. Once it hits a certain scene (if you watched it you'll probably know which one) I was teary eyed the rest of the way through 1. Dune 2 - Absolute masterpiece. This is what a modern golden age film looks and feels like. Every aspect of it I was just in total awe. Watch the Paul speech if you need a daily dose of inspiration
Super cool list !! Mine is below 10. Kinds of Kindness 9. The Fall Guy 8. Deadpool & Wolverine 7. Civil War 6. Gladiator 2 5. Late night with the devil 4. The Substance 3. Alien Romulus 2. Dune 2 1. Nosferatu
1. Anora (it’s like boogie nights meets uncut gems meets big Lebowski with a wonderfully bold ending. Of course it’s my favorite!) 2. Nosferatu (could be recency bias but I was pretty knocked out front to back by design performances and overall feel) 3. Dune: Part Two (it was everything I loved about part one with all my pacing issues solved. Tied with interstellar for best visual effects in film I’ve seen) 4. The Substance (take cronenberg body horror crank it up even higher and add more depth and humanity? Need I say more?) 5. Strange Darling (a fantastic thriller with wild twists and turns and stunning performances. See for yourself and avoid spoilers) 6. A Complete Unknown 7. Civil War 8. Saturday Night 9. Deadpool & Wolverine 10. The Order
Interesting how I have seen far fewer videos that you, but there's quite a bit of overlap between your top 10 and what I expect to make my top 10, although your list is also very specific to you in several ways. Furiosa is currently my #1 and probably will remain so. I love the visuals, the action, the world building, and the performances. It was actually the first Mad Max movie I'd seen, and I immediately went home and watched Fury Road after it. Dune 2 will definitely also be in my top 10. The Wild Robot, Twisters, and The Fall Guy are also in the mix, along with My Old Ass, Rebel Ridge, Inside Out 2, and Conclave. I still have several movies I want to catch up on before attempting to make a top 10, including Nosferatu, Wicked, September 5, and Hundreds of Beavers. And Kneecap is now on my radar too.
One of my favourite reasons I’m glad the Dune films exist is to give people the language to understand not only the world/culture/ etc around us but also the stories out there like Star Wars etc. I grew up with the books and am grateful on a daily basis for Denis Villeneuve.
My top ten. 1.Kingdom of the planet of the apes 2.Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire 3.Bad Boys/Ride or Die 4.Deadpool and Wolverine 5.Fall Guy 6. Super/Man 7.Rebel Ridge-Netflix 8.Twisters 9.Beekeeper,The 10.Inside out 2
Thanks for all the videos this year coy. Was not in a place to see some of the movies that I had on my list but will catch up eventually...also discovered some that were not talked about much. Also considering picking up some comics again after all your videos. Waiting for a most anticipated movies for next year? Appreciate your work.
Great year for movies! My top 5: Deadpool & Wolverine (Best cinema experience in years), Dune Part Two, Strange Darling, Civil War, The Wild Robot. Happy New Year and much love!
Hey Coy, I'm just starting the video and actually need to watch the first one because I clicked this thinking, "Where's the 24 for 24???" but I just want to say that I Saw the TV Glow is my favorite film of the year, and I'm really glad that you enjoyed it 😊
I'd say my top 3 were 1. Dune 2 (Number 1 because I am such a massive Dune fan and Denis Villeneuve fan) 2. Nosferatu (Massive fan of the original silent film) 3. Deadpool and Wolverine (Very much biased but I love both Ryan and Hugh this movie was a dream come true for me)
Kneecap sounds amazing; as a Brit I'm sure the status of the Irish language in Northern Ireland will have been a consequence of how the British government has enforced it's rule. The same issue existed in Wales, oppression of the language to control the people, and it's wonderful to see these languages be reclaimed. Thanks to this list I've found that Kneecap is available on Prime Video and I look forward to watching it.

What part of Virginia are you from? I'm from Lynchburg right in the middle. Also agree with twisters and the fall guy, probably my top 2 films, really blew my expectations out of the water with them.
Ps Loved Deadpool and Wolverine too for so many reasons. I adore how Ryan Reynolds really seemed to making a love letter to MCU fans and that is a huge weight to carry as there were so many things I think he wanted to include and so many notes to hit. That said in doing all that which was awesome no doubt, the one thing I think that could have delivered a more powerful emotional punch, was to set up in old school screenplay fashion in Act one, Deadpool's desire or main goal. Said goal was a little muddled. Yes he wanted to be an Avenger, but said that was to show Vanessa he could be better, so was the goal to win Vanessa back? What was his objective? We root for the protagonist and I loved to see him finding his way back to his "family" and even forming a friendship with Wolverine, but what did he wish for when he blew out that candle? The movie rocked and succeeded in being a love letter to fans don't get me wrong. It did not disappoint. I had a blast and loved it, just thought it could have been that much more impactful untangling that goal.

I wish voice performances were considered for acting Oscars, because Lupita Nyongo really pulls off a beautiful unexpected performance with Roz.
They 100% should be. AND STUNTS. Mo cap too!
@@CoyJandreau No cap on the mo cap. Andy Serkis should have won for Gollum.

Yes The Fall Guy definitely needed more love. Not only is Gosling always hilarious, but such a love letter to the stunt community!
