Elbereth Gilthoniel ao true the most memoriable act in all the witcher universe, its pretty tragic but have some bitter-sweet feeling, many misterys solved at this act and a really dark, sad story was in this peacefull isle...a really disconnected area from the rushing and grooming world
Well, I love the first ost because it's eerily beautiful and makes me feel nostalgic, but being from Eastern Europe myself, the entire W3 ost resonates with me like no other video game soundtrack out there. Can't help it, sounds like home.
I am Russian and I read a lot of books by Hugo, Balzac, Tolstoy, Dostoevsky but Sapkowski's work is my favourite. Truly masterpiece, best fantasy universe ever.
The moment where you teleport into Act 4 and see the spectral city with this music playing has to be one of the best scenes from the game. The first Witcher, like some others have said, had an amazing atmosphere, and that was due in no small part to the soundtrack. Amazing!
When you've just been spirited away from certain death, and you appear without warning on a lakeshore staring at a submerged city with this music playing, it is fucking amazing.
Witcher is something i never forget. Never. This game brings you everything you want. It may not be as good in graphic as Witcher 3 but that ATMOSPHERE you could cut with knife. And that MUSIC is still the best even Witcher 3 didn't beat music from first Witcher. Adam Skorupa is not beaten and never be. Thi music has so much slavic atmosphere and you actually can feel it. Wiedzmin is slavic hero, slavic story and for me the best fantasy. LOTR is good but Wiedzmin has something i can't describe. Story of Geralt and Ciri and many other characters (i love all of them) is just closer to my heart comparing with other fantasy series. I just love it so much. Books and games as well. Greetings from Czech Republic!
Šimon Dorociak i think its beacuse if geralt die... nothing happens... and if frodo or gandhalf will die... well the world will fucked up by evil... and that why i love the witcher the most! its private story of these charactars! no evil or good all is pretty natural and choice driven... there are kingdoms in war... and geralt just worring about his loved ones i know its sound selfish but its what make this story real and true! and feel for the charactars beacuse this are there lifes and not all world lifes
Have you ever played the Gothic series of games, developed by Piranha Bytes? One of the reasons of why I really got into The Witcher 1 was because it game me a similar feel that the Gothic 1&2 gave me. TW2 is a good game, TW3 is a great game, but none of them really can replicate that feel that the first game gave me. They made probably too many consessions to my liking in order to appeal to a wider public, intead of keeping it unique and true to the first game.
I played witcher 1 for the first time just now. Haven't played witcher 2 or 3 yet. The atmosphere was constantly ruined by buggy NPCs, clearly 'old' style quest design and crashes. This music was certainly the most memorable though.
I remember Geralt flirting with Lady of the Lake to this music during the night with the background sounds of wind and water. Amazing atmosphere. It felt like I was really there lol. Simply stunning.
I have to agree with most if not all the statements here....the atmosphere provided by the soundtracks in the Witcher just envoked a feeling of wonderment and mystery that no other game I've played in over 20 years could come close to. Well done CDProjekt. well done indeed! Would love to see another Witcher game perhaps with Eskel in the future with a return to music that accompanied the first title.
Well i do think W3 did a better job at pretty much everything when compared to 2 and it's music was very close to these original pieces, the game had it's flaws, mostly the utterly stupid combat system but at the time it was the most athmospheric rpg i had ever played.
Bane - RSS. so true, i see ur comments everywhere on witcher 1 ost... well u like me i think, we have some pinch in our chest that want something just like the witcher 1 but not the witcher 1... well until i will be game developer... its probably not gonna happen (crying in the corner beacuse i doubt that i will be one someday)
This is epic. The game, the ambience..... please keep in mind the game's release date when judging it. Witcher 2 ... meh. Witcher 3 is great, but, man, turn your head and see W1 in perspective.... it is uncontested.
Witcher 1 has great ambience. So much people like chapter 4 the most, but for me the best one was chapter 1. Ambience of this part in game was amazing. Suburbs of Vizima maybe didn't have the best soundtracks in Witcher 1, but every npc and last choice here were really great. Atmosphere of poverty in this place was entrancing so much. Chapter 2 had it too, but chapter 1 had better story. Last time I felt ambience like that so much in Witcher games, were Flotsam in Witcher 2. Witcher 3 is a great game and I love it so much, but I didn't felt this atmosphere of poverty anywhere in this game, like this world is supposed to be. I know there are a lot of poor people in Novigrad, but it isn't really noticeable after all.
The Witcher 1 had the absolute best atmosphere of all 3 games. Combat system may have been sort of fucked, but the game made up for that in literally every other respect.
I think it's because she is one of the few truly pure, noble souls Geralt ever meets in his adventures. Almost every character in the Witcher games is a shade of grey (which is an integral part of the story and design, because it shows that people are complex, multifaceted beings with conflicting dreams, goals and desires, and there is usually always a point where you have to compromise). The Lady of the Lake, however, is a being straight out of the Arthurian myths. She talks about chivalry, justice, mercy and compassion as ideas that must never be broken, no matter the cost. She is more like an ideal that one tries to aspire to, knowing all the while that you'll never succeed in this morally conflicted world, but at the same time, it reinforces Geralt's (and the player's) determination to do what is right, despite all of the obstacles and hardships put in his way, and sometimes even the people that he helps not being deserving. It's like that story that Zoltan tells you in Act III about how one of the dwarven villages came under attack and had to be evacuated, and Zoltan and some of the other dwarven warriors protected and sometimes even bodily carried dozens of wounded, women and children with them, even though it would have been far easier and safer for them to simply abandon anybody too weak to travel. They did it "because it was the right thing to do."
@UshiromiyaReiji Nostalgia goggles at their finest. While the first game did have some of the most effective atmosphere and music in gaming history, the second had better gameplay, graphics, animation, flow and narrative. both games are great in their own right, but I submit that the second is the better piece.
Act IV of The Witcher is something I will never forget. The atmosphere of that place was unbelievable. AND ON TOP OF THAT, THIS MUSIC.
Elbereth Gilthoniel ao true the most memoriable act in all the witcher universe, its pretty tragic but have some bitter-sweet feeling, many misterys solved at this act and a really dark, sad story was in this peacefull isle...a really disconnected area from the rushing and grooming world
For me this is most memorable track of Witcher 1.
This track is better then all W3 exploring tracks ;) And it is long.
Well, I love the first ost because it's eerily beautiful and makes me feel nostalgic, but being from Eastern Europe myself, the entire W3 ost resonates with me like no other video game soundtrack out there. Can't help it, sounds like home.
I won't forget it either. I love that feeling, but seeing my name (and I yours) I'm sure you understand.
The book series changed my life, the game made it real, the soundtrack made me want to never leave it

witcher 1 may not be as action packed as the other games from its series, but it sure trumps them on the ambiance

IV акт Ведьмак 1 это что-то незабываемое, после душной и мрачной старой Вызимы

'' i know evrything, ask me''
The beginning of this song is very similar to the "Down to the Sewer" theme from Baldur's Gate, just awesome :)
I love'd act IV

Act IV > Act I > Act II > Act V > Act III
And that’s not to say Act III is all that bad...

It's a PLUS to listen to great music while gaming....
Wow...I need to play Witcher 1, such amazing music. TW2 I have finished and currently quite far at TW3. Definitely need to start over afterwards
You must. W1 has the best soundtrack and atmosphere.
its sooooo amazing, unbelievable
they better keep this in the remake
thank you for posting
Is it just me? or the Lady of the lake is one of the best interactions of Geralt in this game?

I LOVE this track!! I wonder why this and the crypt music are not included in the soundtrack...
It was't in the soundrack in IV act while night?
what do you mean? this track is not included in the OST CD.
Alice Cheung But it is in the game.
Act IV is the best act of the entire witcher game
They should of added this song to the soundtrack. I'm not really sure why they decided against it.
