  • This video took longer than expected to put out and it barely made it out for today because I have the flu :) Anyways, Pulp fiction to me is the best example to show Tarantino’s eye when it comes to aesthetics. In this video I’m going to go through the style and costume design of all the characters in Pulp Fiction, point out the influences within the wardrobe as well as show how this movie is a great showcase for 90’s fashion.

Great video as usual on a movie which should have plenty of style commentary videos but of which there are almost none. I think the movie establishes a clear division between a professional set of criminals who have a very striking and deliberate set of clothing - Jules, Vincent, Mia, Butch, Marcellus, the Wolf - which has a formality that is close to a work uniform (Butch's casual clothes when he goes off for the watch feels taut, focused, and minimal), while the more happenstance outfits of others mark them as more amateurish, or outside this criminal class, such as Pumpkin and Honey Bunny, the pawn shop guys, Jimmy, Butch's girlfriend, the cab driver, and the dealers.
Notably (nearly) every member of this professional class makes a mistake or has a failure in judgment which leads to their clothes being ruined, their professional outfit destroyed, either torn apart or splattered with blood. The one exception, of course, is Winston Wolf, a man full of lessons on proper conduct and propriety.

Thank you 🙏🏼 Yes definitely still going to happen. Finishing up B-roll footage today and then I have to edit it all. Video got delayed because I got sick unfortunately. I would like to do a pick up haul but I feel that format is so repetitive so I’m trying to figure out a way to make it new and more enticing. Glad to know people want to see that though!
