Okay, really basic dumb question here. After I select around windows with the pen tool and hit delete, my pen path tool goes away, but the layer mask doesn't...

Hi Ryan! Great question! Pressing Delete will make the selection "white" in the mask - meaning it will show the underlying layer. As long as there is a selection on the image it will not delete the mask. If you have any other questions, let us know!
